the main reason i don't think we will make the playoffs is this....

lets say that we are playing well enough to be the 8th or 7th seed. We are gonna end up packaging david lee or nate with curry or jefferies, which will causeus to lose down the stretch, missing the playoffs
LeBron does New York star turn at book signing
September 15, 2009 By ALAN HAHN [email protected]

The line wrapped around the building, from Fifth Avenue onto 46th Street. They came here Tuesday to see, as one man shouted,"The King.'' LeBron James could very well take the throne in New York as a free agentnext summer, but before he contemplates signing with the Knicks, he spent 90 minutes signing copiesof his new book at a midtown store.

"I'm blessed that I'm even able to have the opportunity to do this,'' said James, who is promoting "Shooting Stars,''co-written by Buzz Bissinger, author of "Friday Night Lights.''

James, who is keenly aware of the importance of achieving global status, toured in China last month andhas been a fixture in New York lately. He has appeared on "Good Morning America'' (with ChrisCuomo chanting "Knicks! Knicks!'' during the interview) and on "The Daily Show" (where host Jon Stewart presented Jameswith an "I heart NY" mug, a burger from the Shake Shack and a supposed tyrannosaurus rex vertebra from the Museum of Natural History).

But there wasn't much campaigning done by Knicks fans Tuesday. Only one person in line wore a Knicks shirt, and several came in Cavaliers attire. Plentyrepresented James' favorite baseball team, the Yankees.

The Knicks are looking to take a page from the Yankees and sign major NBA stars. Donnie Walsh carved outplenty of salary-cap space last season to make a run at a marquee free agent such as James, who is expected to opt out of his contract next July. He has astanding offer of a multiyear extension from the Cavs but so far has decided to leave it on the table. (The Knicks are owned by Cablevision, which also owns Newsday.)

So consider the book and the upcoming documentary "More Than a Game'' an opportunity for New Yorkers to get to know King James better before hecould be handed the keys to the kingdom.

The candid look at James' launch into stardom as a high school phenom sold out at the bookstore Tuesday. The movie, to be released Oct. 2 in New York,Akron and Cleveland, earned positive reviews at the Toronto Film Festival last September.

James is clearly having fun with the 2010 anticipation, but Tuesday said his focus two weeks before training camps open is short-term. The Cavs are comingoff a bitter flop in the Eastern Conference finals and had an underwhelming offseason, which included the acquisition of the charismatic, though aging,Shaquille O'Neal.

A book, a movie and an MVP trophy. All that's missing is a championship.

"I'm looking forward to the upcoming season; I can't wait for it to start,'' James said. "I'm preparing for it to be a longseason. I'm preparing to play into June.''

Knicks Still Working on Lee Sign and Trade; Nate Update By Tommy Dee - Sep 15, 2009 9:44 pm
"…The agent for http://sny.stats.com/nba/playerstats.asp?id=3956&team=David Lee indicated Tuesday that his client is still the subject of active sign-and-trade discussions between the Knicks and at least one other team.

"Nothing is done yet, but we're talking," Mark Bartelstein said. "There are still some sign-and-trade scenarios that are being discussed or going back to the Knicks."

If Lee eventually does return to the Knicks, it would be on a one-year contract exceeding Lee's $2.7 million qualifying offer…"

Fanhouse also mentions the following news about Nate, including the fact that despite reports, Nate never considered going overseas.
"…This much is said to be certain: Nate Robinson will play for the New York Knicks this season.

"Yes, I'm 100 percent sure of that," his agent, Aaron Goodwin, said Tuesday in an interview with FanHouse. "Where else is he going to go?"

Well, the 5-foot-9 guard is a restricted free agent. And, while it's highly unlikely a team would put an offer down on him at this late stage and in this economy, isn't that still a possibility?

"No," Goodwin said. "Nate has made it clear from the start that he only wants to play for New York. After July 1, we didn't talk to any other teams."http://

That includes other countries.

"That was never a consideration," Goodwin said…"
Mo players, mo problems
By Alan Hahn

There are still some interesting names on the list of unsigned free agents (aside from David Lee and Nate Robinson) and aside from adding Gabe Pruitt, SunYue and Warren Carter to the training camp roster, it doesn't sound like the Knicks are making a serious push at bringing in a player that may actuallypush for rotation minutes.

The always-reliable, ridiculously-connected Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports mentioned via twitter that the Knicks were in on Sasha Pavlovic, who wasbought out by the Suns and quickly signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves. But from what I was told, despite the willingness Pavlovic had to take a one-yeardeal, the Knicks were not involved at all.

So why the status quo with a 32- win team? Why not go for a Pavlovic, who may be able to give you a little something on the wing with Danilo Gallinari, ortake a chance on a sourpuss such as Rashad McCants? What about Wally Szczerbiak, who is still unsigned, to give you some needed veteran presence andshooting?

Maybe because the roster is already loaded with players who all expect to get minutes in Mike D'Antoni's tight rotation.

If you begin with the obvious: Chris Duhon at the point, Gallinari, Wilson Chandler at the two-three spots (interchanging on either end of the floor) and, once he's signed, David Lee and Al Harrington at the four with Eddy Curry and Darko Milicic at the five. That's seven players right there. You have toinclude Nate Robinson (soon to be signed) and one would expect Jared Jeffries, who is a D'Antoni favorite, will be part of the gameplan. That's alreadynine and we still haven't mentioned either rookie (Jordan Hill and Toney Douglas) or veteran Larry Hughes, who is in a contract year and we have alreadyseen how he gets when he's dumped on the bench.

So just imagine if the team added someone like a Pavlovic or McCants and had to figure out how to fit them into the equation. It's not like we'retalking about a bona fide starter and winner who would have impact. This would be adding role players to a group of role players. Better to leave the minutesfor Gallinari and Chandler to get as much burn as possible and develop and allow Hill and Douglas the same, as well.

Would D'Antoni consider opening up his rotation this season, at least early on, to involve a larger amount of players? He may have to.

* * *

Hearing that Robinson's situation is expected to be settled soon. It seems pretty easy. All he has to do is accept the 1-year qualifying offer of$2.9M.

Though it was thought to be a foregone conclusion that the sign-and-trade market was closed and a discussion for a 1-year deal with the Knicks for above theQO was underway, it's now apparent that Lee's representation is still trying to work some sign-and-trade scenarios. So far, none of these S&Ts haveinterested the Knicks.

And, curiously, from what I understand, the Knicks haven't yet made Lee an offer, either.

This couldn't still be about money, could it?

No one forsees a "holdout" situation, which is of zero benefit to Lee, considering his QO ($2.7M) expires on the third day of camp. But a fewsources have shot down media speculation seen here (and elsewhere) that Lee would get as high as an $8M payday.

Robinson seems content with taking his QO and going into next summer, when almost half the league will have cap space, as an unrestricted free agent. Leedoes not seem as comfortable with that gameplan.

Stay tuned.

GALLINARI 'LOOKING GOOD' Confetti burst into the air as Danilo Gallinari dunked the ball Tuesday afternoon. Technically, the celebration was not forhim, though perhaps it should have been.

Gallinari, the Knicks' lottery pick in 2008, is healthy at last, and eagerly anticipating his first full N.B.A. training camp, which begins in two weeks. He has been scrimmaging for two weeks with his teammates at the Knicks' training center.

"I feel good," Gallinari said at an event to promote an Oct. 18 exhibition game between the Knicks and Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. Proceeds from thegame will benefit Migdal Ohr, an Israeli orphanage that houses 7,000 orphaned, impoverished and underprivileged children.

Gallinari missed most of his rookie season because of a back injury, which required noninvasive surgery in April. He said he was playing with no limitationsnow, which may be the best news the Knicks have had in months.

Team officials regard the 21-year-old Gallinari as the most gifted and versatile player on the roster. He is already their best shooter and passer and, at 6feet 10 inches, can play multiple positions. Assuming he has a strong training camp, Gallinari is likely to open the season as a starter.

As the Knicks look to 2010, and the free-agent recruitment of LeBron James, they will promote a young core of Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and David Lee as thekey to the future. Chandler, who had ankle surgery in June, also is back to full strength and scrimmaging.

Gallinari said he was comfortable with playing a featured role in the offense and welcomed the high expectations that came with being the sixth overall pick.

"I want to see the expectations, I want to feel the pressure, because that's what makes you a really good player," he said. "So I'mhappy that there is pressure and people have expectations."

Coach Mike D'Antoni said Gallinari had played the last seven days in a row, with no setbacks.

"He's looking good," D'Antoni said. "He's taken a lot of hits and fallen down and gotten back up. He's getting in better shapeas each day goes by."

Ticketmaster.com, find the games, and most of them ask for an Internet Pre-Sale code. It doesn't seem to work for high profile games likeLakers/Cavs/Celtics. Just call up Ticketmaster, speak to a rep and they'll place the order for you.
