F1 Official Thread - Grand Prix of Britain

That is one gorgeous car, but I ask, who is going to clean up that mess he made?

'No one could win with my car' - Rosberg

"No one could win with my car," Rosberg told El Pais. "There are three teams - Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren - who are ahead of the others. I need to wait to get a better car. Later this year or early next year I will start to think about winning."

He added: "With this car, to me seventh place is like winning,"
Pirelli considering qualifying tyres
"We know that the public likes the idea of a qualifying tyre and drivers rather like the thrill of having a qualifying tyre and chasing that ultimate lap. It's a one-shot, zero-mistake tyre so it builds up the tension. It would be an extreme, one-hit tyre, two seconds a lap quicker."
The plan could be a solution to the problem of drivers staying in the pits during qualifying sessions in order to save tyres for the race.
Please. Get rid of he three sessions and give us back the hot lap.
Senna in for next two races
Rest of season unconfirmed due to 'legal reasons'

http://en.espnf1.com/renault/motorsport/driver/2788.html
Bruno Senna will hold onto his race seat at Renault for the Belgian and Italian Grands Prix, with a view to racing for the team until the end of the season.

On Wednesday Renault confirmed that Senna will replace Nick Heidfeld at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend but did not give any further details on the deal. But in the Thursday press conference at Spa, Senna revealed that the team is hoping to keep in the car for the remaining eight races.

Good to see Senna in a good car for a while. Sucks for Nick.

Ah, it's been too long. But not a "Motorsports" thread anymore? I'm fine with that.

Nah, I'd like to see Senna given another chance... his car was crap last season... lets see what the kid can really do...

Yeah, F1 just looks better up on the title. It's sleek. Can't wait for the weekend.

^ Definitely go for it. Watching an actual F1 race live is an amazing experience... the sights, the ambience, the smells of the tires/fumes/fuel and of course the sounds the engines. The sound hits you like a brick wall.

If we're lucky we might even have two USGPs in the future.

Qualifying will be more eventful tomorrow, hopefully.

I went to all the USGPs at Indianapolis and it was pretty incredible. Had seats in the first bit of the infield complex and the acceleration and braking of these cars in person is unbelievable. Even if you just loved cars I'd suggest you go because the sheer number of incredible cars I saw just parked and driving near the track were amazing.

Time to qualify. Looks like it'll be Webber's weekend.

I will bet a dollar that Hamilton will be taking a visit to the stewards office today. But look at Senna. Impressive. But holy crap at Alguersuari. That young man wants his job.

That was a rather exciting quali, wasn't it?

Haha, the bet isn't on whether Lewis will be visiting the stewards office or not... any, I mean ANY, on-track incident will demand a visit. The issue will be penalties, if any...

And this just in... Maldo 5 place pen, while Lew was reprimanded. I must admit, after looking at the replays, Lewis wasn't 100% innocent. 70/30 Maldo at fault.

Tough break for MSC though... Not a fan by any means, but that was very unfortunate.

McLaren on how they handled Jenson...

That's heartbreaking for Jenson, but if it rains, he'll be in the thick of things.

well damn, i like the re-titling and new focus of this thread. The Austin track is indeed looking good. And as others have mentioned, seeing this in person just brings a whole new perspective. The sights and sounds are just fantastic. The closer the better, don't skimp on tickets if you're gonna do it, word to the paddock club/being in pits. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to travel with the circus lately, makes me REALLY miss '08, took it for granted. VERY excited for 45 minutes from now. Definitely think/hope Lewis can pull it off. Don't want to hear it form my mom about Sebastian (she goes on and on about how great he is and how nice and funny...while true, she knows it pisses me off and revels in that)

Great race for Button and Michael today. The Lewis crash was definitely a scary scene. Pirelli had better make better tires next season. I'm just so annoyed that we missed half the damn race because Speed goes to commercial every five laps.

Nah, Pirelli are doing a fine job. The racing's been so good this season is cuz of the tires...

Decent racing, but after all the chaos, it was still an RBR 1-2...

Man, just not Lewis's season. A racing incident, but most of the responsibility should be on him. He did seem to edge-left on the entry to T5. I guess he didn't expect Kob to still be there. McL's top-speed was pretty disappointing today... too much wing, perhaps.

Hopefully the speed issues won't kill Mclaren in Monza. I wonder how the Mercedes will fare.

^ I think it was prob too much wing or that 7th gear was too short. Should be OK for Monza.

Wow Lewis cannot get a break last year or this year, dude has the worst luck in sports........................ Cannot wait to go to the Austin Gp next year

I just hope everyone going to Austin remembers to take pictures.

I wouldn't say Lewis has been seriously unlucky... what goes around comes around IMO.  Everything worked out so well for him during his first 2 years, so I guess things are balancing out a bit.  It happens to all of them.  I'm sure there are lots of athletes that have had it worse than him.
Seb, on the other hand, has been very fortunate with the way some things have turned out for him.  Not to take anything away from his accomplishments, but take Monaco for example... they messed up his stop, put on the wrong tires or something, and it still ended up working out for him.  When things go your way... damn.

Still, he's been very strong all season, so it's time to move on.

Incidentally, Lewis has Tweeted that, after watching the replay of his crash with Kob, he admitted that it was his fault, which I'm sure many of you will agree... as I didn't believe it was Kob's fault.  It was a racing incident for sure, but the responsibility was more on Lew.  I guess he was surprised that Kob was still so close to him after the straight, especially considering that he had his DRS opened, while Kob didn't.  Credit to Lew for raising his hand and admitting that it was his "fault".  Our boy is growing up.

Maldonado, meanwhile, took the opportunity to have a dig at him...
