So far this season the majority of the circuits have seen only one DRS zone during the race, with the grands prix in Canada and Valencia seeing a double zone on consecutive straights. On those occasions there was only one detection point, meaning only the following car can use the DRS in either zone.
In Italy, however, there will be two separate zones with two separate detection points. The first will be on the start finish straight with the detection point on the exit of Parabolica, while the second will be in between the second Lesmo and the Ascari chicane and will have a detection point between the two Lesmos.
On April 5th, Jean Todt, president of the FIA, expressed his interest in an electrified Formula One racing series. Some months have passed since then, so here we present a rundown of updates on this ongoing project:
- The FIA is currently calling for expression of interest from automakers and racing organizations.
- Teams have until October 14th to respond and will be required to sign a three-year contract.
- The racing series, if launched, will be called Formula E.
- Formula E's inaugural race is tentatively scheduled for sometime in 2013.
- Formula E racers will likely battle for electric supremacy in major cities around the world.
- Vehicles are to be of the open-wheel design and must be 100-percent electric.
- Minimum vehicle weight will be 780 kilograms (1,720 pounds), driver included.
"Obviously I'm disappointed to be leaving Lotus Renault GP in the middle of the season," Heidfeld told reporters. "I thought I could still make a big contribution to the team, but I have to see things as they are and I want to turn my attention to the future. We have taken the right decision by choosing to end our collaboration today. I would like to wish all the friends I made at Enstone a successful end to the season.
"One thing is for sure - I'll be back racing at the highest level soon."
That's doubtful Nick.
