Trust me, I felt the same way when I first joined in 2006 I think, he is just a resident jerk that will tug on your strings til the sweater unravels. Just got to really ignore him and I think that is why some do suggest to lurk a bit before posting because of guys like that. There is also a resident dude that tales it was too far at times saying "did you get that shirt for 50% off, because if it me it would be 100% off". 
There are just weird characters there that you need to be somewhat be aware of or it;ll just creep you out or plain annoy you.
And come on man, on the interwebs, trolling as a joke is hard to decipher if serious or not. You know that it can easily be taken the wrong way.
