they should get rid of the lights out crap
He needs to work on his game over the summer. It's the main reason why he get's frustrated on the court he can't do the same moves he once could.
Isn't it Mike D's job to figure out how to play his best players as much as possible? The Lakers have some pretty obvious strengths: They're bigger than everyone else, they're blessed with three high-IQ hoop guys (Gasol, Kobe and Nash), and it's pretty easy for them to score. Their weaknesses are also pretty obvious: They're a painfully slow team, it can be clumsy having two low-post guys, their transition defense is horrific, and they can't guard anyone on the perimeter.
Guess what? If those are your weaknesses, you shouldn't be playing at the second-fastest pace in the league (which is what they're doing right now). The Lakers should be playing at such a slow pace, we should be having 'Nam-like flashbacks to Mike Fratello's excruciating Cavaliers teams. Instead, they swung the other way because I'M MIKE D'ANTONI AND THIS IS HOW I COACH BASKETBALL! It's seriously one of the dumbest things I've ever watched. I hate the Lakers and even I'm offended by this — purely as a basketball fan, it's insulting to watch good players being criminally misused like this.
if anything he'll be treated with kid gloves and be forced to resign just like with the knicks
he got fired basically, but knicks mgmt gave him a pass by claiming he resigned (his whole group of coaches that he brought in with him to the knicks were fired)
So it comes down to the Lakers' desperation, especially amid the Lakers' reluctance to take on an extended max deal, such as Bosh's contract that runs through 2016.
For alternate answers, we turned to ESPN's trade machine, which told us this works:
Heat get: Paul Gasol.
Lakers get: Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony, James Jones, Dexter Pittman.
(We tried four-for-ones, but were told those deals failed.)
Debate, if you will, whether that would be another Gasol-for-bag-of-chips deal.
The upside for the Heat would be clear, especially with Gasol, even on his tendinitis-laden knees, having only two seasons left on his contract.
For the Lakers, it would provide the type of outside shooting (Miller, Jones) D'Antoni covets and Howard thrived alongside in Los Angeles, as well as a pair of team defenders (Haslem, Anthony) to bolster a team that plays no team defense.
Yes, a five-for-one would be difficult, forcing the Lakers, at least temporarily, to cut four players (we're assuming Robert Sacre, Devin Ebanks, Darius Morris plus one harder cut, possibly Chris Duhon).
For the Heat, it would leave a starting lineup of Bosh, Gasol, James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers, plus a top five in reserve of Shane Battier, Ray Allen, Norris Cole, Rashard Lewis and Chris Andersen. It also would allow the Heat to keep the promise of Jarvis Varnado, possibly re-sign Josh Harrellson and fill out the roster with three others (Kenyon Martin?)
The rub is Haslem, who has shown unceasing loyalty. Otherwise, Miller would have been an amnesty offseason cut, anyway, and Jones is not playing. The need for Anthony would be lessened by the length of Andersen and Varnado, and Pittman likely would be cut as soon as such a transaction would be official.
Could the Lakers do better?
Sure, but it also has been made clear that if Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard stay, there is no desire for a third, max-level, Bosh-type contract. Such a five-for-one would provide flexibility to rebuild the roster, possibly with the Heat kicking in a draft pick (they hold the 76ers' lottery-protected pick in June).
Beyond all that, the Heat at least have to make a pitch for four others reasons:
The Celtics.
The Knicks.
The Nets.
The Pacers.
Put Gasol on any of those rosters, particularly the Celtics, and the road through the East would grow all the more challenging.
Of course, Howard for Bosh also works under the cap, if the Lakers were to go in that direction.
Either way, it's worth Heat investigation.
Especially amid the Lakers' desperation.
Everyone wins in that Heat - Laker trade.
D'Antoni gets his 3 point shooters, Lakers get money off the books, and the Heat win the championship for the next 4 years
"I have to be more," said Howard, who is averaging 17.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks on the season. "I have to do more for this team. There are a lot of responsibilities on my shoulders. I have to step up and take it. It has to be me. It has to start with me. I'm a guy that has to dominate for us to win. We're not going to win unless I dominate."
