and being a PG its harder to adjust. almost every european player ecxept pau gasol had to get adjusted to it. he might have struggled a lot off the court, but on it, gasol was the only one that was consistent. even dirk struggled his first few years, so for a pointguard it's even harder

But really, there are few reasons why he's not playing the NBA.

1. His current contract with Barcelona still hold's him to play with the team and in order for him to get out of it, he would have to play money out of pocket. I'm not sure what the amount is, but it's large enough where he couldn't do it. The Timberwolves aren't allowed to him do this either for some odd reason or another.

2. His skill set just isn't fit for the NBA at the moment. I think he got drafted when he was 19. His game is still raw and needs a lot of work. The Timberwolves organization saw that it was best fit for him to play a little longer in Europe and bring him in when he's around the age of 21-22.

3. IDK how true this is, but I've heard from a lot of people that he just doesn't want to play for Minnesota. Now, I know JPZx will argue about this all day, but it is a possibility. A dude like Ricky is bigger than Minnesota. I'm sure he himself feels the same way. Will he start his career in Minnesota? Most likely. Will he leave once his contract is up? Most likely

Besides all the opinion, it's just like c'mon son.
On June 24, 2009, Minnesota acquired the 5th pick, Etan ThomasDarius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov from Washington in exchange for Randy Foye and Mike Miller. Minnesota used the 5th pick to draft Ricky Rubio.

Round 1 Pick 5 Ricky Rubio PG by the Minnesota Timberwolves from Washington

Round 1 Pick 6 Jonny Flynn PG by the Minnesota Timberwolves

So the plan was to pick a guy who said he didn't want to go to a small market, and then draft his fill-in in the same breath for the years it would take before he maybe might come over. And all one pick before Stephen Curry. Right. Master plan.

If you can provide me a link, then great. The farthest it's ever gone is his mom saying that she doesn't want to go to Minnesota.

What was David Kahn thinking drafting three point guards in 2009? Ricky Rubio, Jonny Flynn, and Ty Lawson? Rubio is in Spain and Lawson was traded for a future first rounder. Flynn is the only one who has played at all. It's funny because I doubt during that draft anyone would think that Luke Ridnour or Sebastian Telfair would be the starter two years later
laugh.gif

and if they were to draft point guards, they could have taken Steph Curry, Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, or Rodrigue Beaubois

I remember them drafting the 3 pgs but didn't know Lawson was one.  I can't believe they let their best young pg go.

ESPN reported that his original buyout with Joventut was €5.7 million ($8.1 million) in both 2009 and 2010.[5] Barça bought out Rubio's contract for €3.5 million ($5.0 million), and announced on September 1 that he had signed a six-year deal with the club. The contract gives him the option to go to the NBA after the 2010–11 season,[26] with ESPN reporting that the buyout at that time will be a more manageable $1.4 million (of which the Timberwolves can pay $500,000).[4] His decision to stay in Spain will save him millions in the short term, but may have long-term consequences. The Timberwolves will retain his NBA rights for one year after he stops playing professional basketball of any sort, at which time he may reenter the NBA draft (but does not become a free agent)

I hope he does go to Minnesota. With him Beasley, Love.....and Darko

they have a nice future.

This is not a slight on your team or your city, but you know damn well this is false.  Aside from Minnesota fans, NO one would pick the Timberwolves as their FIRST option.  Im sorry.  You know damn well just because he said this does not necessarily make it true.
