If anything it would be a fumble, but if the ground can't cause a fumble, then how is it not a catch?

Dude took like 3 steps, his butt and knee both hit the ground before the ball was knocked loose by the ground.....

*Scratches head*

That was a catch. You can read the rule book and the refs didn't interpret the rule right. "The process" ends as soon as Calvin Johnson's butt hits the ground. The ball did not come lose when Calvin Johnson's butt hit the ground, the ball was secure, it's a touchdown and the "process" is over.

Nothing in the rules say the player has to get up with the ball or says that the player has to lay on the ground holding the ball for a certain amount of time.

Bad call and what's even worse, the refs couldn't interpret the rule correctly.

you are wrong...process ends when the refs call the play dead. butt, knees, elbows, all can hit the ground and process isnt finished...stupid rule but hey we got lucky...guess its payback for '04

What?  You making up your own rules cause you are a Bears fan?

Nothing says anything about the refs calling the play dead, heck the refs don't even blow the whistles on most endzone plays unless people are still hitting.

In the field of play, sure.  But in the end zone the play is dead once the player possesses the football, example; 2 feet on the ground, knee hitting the ground, tailbone hitting the ground.  Now on that play, all 3 happened before the ball hit the ground. He caught the damn thing with 2 hands and had 2 feet down and was clearly in control, the refs blew that one hard.

Anybody remember Polamalu's interception of Peyton Manning a few years back? The one where Polamalu picked it off, rolled on the ground, got up and his knee knocked it out therefore making it an "incomplete" pass? Kinda reminds me of that.
