agree with you about my boy Lancey, actually balled with him back in the day.

For Cuse you talking about Rautins? Cause hes not really NBA material, dont get me wrong i like him, but i dont see him getting drafted and if he does it wil be later in the 2nd round but he will most likely play in Europe cause his game is best suited there and hes not even an American, hes Canadian so it works. But speaking of Cuse, watch out for my boy B Triche on Cuse in a few years he will be troubleeee, he is so strong and athletic, he has mad scoring ability and he is learning how to run the point better... but he wont be in the draft for a few years

i remember this dude lance at a tourny before..  didn't wanna play defense so he chilled at half court on defense and when they got the rebound they would outlet the ball to lance and he would just dunk it

dude is wild

You know it's a bad year when we're talking about potential 2nd round draft picks the first day of February

Let’s Make A Deal: 7 Possible And Not So Possible Deals For Jeffries

With the trade deadline approaching, the New York Knicks may once again make a move to clear up cap space for the now infamous 2010 off-season. Jared Jeffries, who is making $6.47M this season and $6.88M next season, was deemed virtually unmovable at the beginning of the season. New York, however, is in position to grab the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and the defensive prowess of Jeffries has played a large role in helping the Knicks get to where they are now.

Think back to who the New York Knicks were last year. Granted, they still aren’t anybody’s version of the 2004 Detroit Pistons, but they can actually D up every now and then. They rank 20th in defensive rating at 108.7 points allowed per 100 possessions, a subtle improvement from their 23rd ranked 110.8 points allowed per 100 possessions of 08-09.

Who do you put on Chris Paul? Dirk Nowitzki? The Knicks can actually put Jeffries on Paul one night and Nowitzki the next. He’s a versatile defensive specialist that can guard point guards, wings of various sizes and power forwards; there’s legitimate value in that for a championship contender looking to strengthen their bench. If you’re the Lakers in the playoffs and you’re worried Derek Fisher can’t stay in front of Steve Nash all night, have Jeffries pester him. His box score is far from sexy, but if you’ve had the chance to watch him annoy opponents you know his importance.

Jeffries doesn’t have the shooting abilities of Shane Battier, but his influence defensively is similar. The Knicks give up nearly eight fewer points per 100 possessions when Jeffries is on the floor than when he is sitting.

Now, there’s even a growing sentiment that Jeffries is too valuable for New York to trade away for additional long-coveted cap space. Sticking to the original script for Donnie Walsh, however, let’s take a look at possible trade partners.

The criteria here is simple: New York will be looking for an expiring contract, while the trade partner must be involved in the playoff race. Out of the 19 possible teams, 11 were automatically disqualified based on needs, lack of matching salaries or their own need for cap space next season.

Utah Jazz: Kyle Korver ($5.16M)

Korver has seemed to have lost playing time since his return from a knee injury recently. Mike D’Antoni’s Knicks could also use another 3-point shooter in their ranks. The Knicks take a huge hit defensively of course, and while the Jazz may not love the idea of taking on additional salary next season, the trade has the potential to give them a better pick in this year’s draft as they own New York’s selection. It’s a potential win/win situation for the Jazz.

Los Angeles Lakers: Adam Morrison ($5.26M)

Morrison serves mostly as a pawn in this trade. He rarely sees the court with the Lakers and I can’t see the Knicks working him into their rotation either, but it serves its main purpose and that’s getting Jeffries out of New York. I don’t think you’ll find many LA fans complaining about Jeffries coming off the bench instead of Luke Walton either, especially if he’s the B team defender for someone like Dirk Nowitzki.

Milwaukee Bucks: Luke Ridnour ($6.5M)

A straight-up deal is more of a pipedream than anything else for the Knicks front office. While Brandon Jennings has the starting PG spot locked up for years, don’t expect the Bucks to get rid of their only depth at the position. Ridnour could be the Knicks answer for a legit ball distributor either off the bench or even replacing Chris Duhon as the starter, but I don’t see it happening unless New York added in Nate Robinson. Robinson and Jeffries for Ridnour and Kurt Thomas happens to work financially and would be a good fit for both teams. Robinson, however, would have to approve any deal he’s involved in first.

Ridnour has had an excellent season, perhaps the best of his entire career.

Memphis Grizzles: Steven Hunter ($3.67M)

With just over three million in cap space, the Grizzles have more flexibility than any other team in the league. Memphis is currently a half game out of the 8th playoff spot in the Western Conference. If they think adding Jeffries could help their chances to get in for the first time since the 2005-06 season, then giving up that flexibility may be an option for them. Hunter has been little use to the Grizzles, but D’Antoni could use a shot blocker so perhaps he will find playing time behind David Lee.

San Antonio Spurs: Michael Finley & Matt Bonner ($5.76M)

Bonner is coming back from an injury to his shooting hand and has been struggling as of late, but he was a valuable member of the San Antonio rotation earlier this season. Finley has had more than his fair share of injury problems as well. Jeffries would fit along nicely when the Spurs reserves come in and could spell anyone from Richard Jefferson to Tim Duncan. Bonner, a 3-point threat, would find time in D’Antoni’s system while Finley could be a veteran presence in the Knicks locker room.

Consider everything from here on out a creative stretch to be filed in the unlikely column.

Houston Rockets: Brian Cook & Chuck Hayes ($5,647,750)

Cook is a salary throw in, so we’ll strictly be looking at Hayes and Jeffries. Their games are actually fairly similar and while Jeffries gives you more options on the defensive end, Hayes is a better rebounder. With that said, this is pretty much a wash talent-wise and the Rockets would be foolish to take on the additional salary and years even if one could make the argument that it is a slight upgrade.

Toronto Raptors: Amir Johnson ($3.94M) and Antoine Wright or Rasho Nesterovic

This deal is possible, but more than unlikely. The Raptors are not looking to do the Knicks any favors going into the offseason as they are looking to retain Chris Bosh. Unless they deem that task impossible by the trade deadline, I don’t see them dedicating any more additional dollars to next year now

If we don't get rid of Jeffries I'm gonna kill myself. I'd be willing to even package Lee with him as long as we got some talent in return.

Two things I'm sure will most likely backfire on me are my faith in Jordan Hill and my dislike of Lance.

since we were on the topic of the NBA draft ima throw out another candidate. I have always loved Scottie Reynolds since he was a freshman and dude has been a MONSTER this season. I dont see any reason why he couldnt be a very solid NBA PG, but nbadraft.net has him as the last overall pick in the draft. Would you guys be down to select him in the 2nd round?? After Lancey he would probably be my number one choice for that pick if they were both still on board, but thats just me...

or we can scoop both considering we will have 2 second round picks this year if Scottie falls that late and Lance leaves school and falls into round 2

Scottie is not an NBA player....He is a chuck and is not a real point guard. I want to parts of him.

There is no PG in the draft aside from Wall that is really going to be an above average player aside from Willie Warren.

Just give him the trophy already

Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari is expected to participate in the three-point shooting contest during All-Star Weekend later this month.

The New York Post first reported Gallinari's expected participation.

Gallinari is shooting 39.6% from behind the arc this season, with 122 made three-pointers, which leads the league.

Knicks guard Larry Hughes has grown a beard and doesn't plan to shave it until he's traded, released or becomes a part of the team's rotation again.

"I'm not going to play," Hughes said. "I know that."

He has logged 15 minutes in two games over the last month. New York coach Mike D'Antoni played Jonathan Bender over Hughes this weekend when Al Harrington was sidelined with an injury.

Hughes was the only available player that didn't take the court in the team's pair of weekend games.

"(My frustration) is as high as it's going to get," he said. "I can't get any more frustrated than I already am."

Hughes is earning $14 million this season and can become a free agent on July 1. He calls January a "month lost" and revealed Sunday that he and his agent are constantly talking about ways to gain his freedom from the Knicks.

"We'll figure this thing out," Hughes said. "Hopefully sooner than later."

Sorry you're frustrated Larry, but you're making 14 million dollars so I can't really sympathize with you.

I almost want D'Antoni to not play him simply to see how long he lasts with his beard

no and no.

This clearing cap space for the season is so damn overrated.

I dont mind keeping jefferies, unless we're able to actually benefit from it. this team is going to lose all their motivation to play defense once jefferies is gone, and i think we've seen how terrible that is to watch.

I'm inclined to agree with BangDak in this situation. While your idea is open ended, having not named said "talent in return," it is unlikely that you will get close to equal value for both players leaving. I mean, those two are arguably our most important players in this shaky season. I've said this ever since the whole "2010" paranoia arose that you have to balance getting cap room with putting out a decent squad to entice other players. Who the hell, in their 7th, 8th, or 9th season would want to leave an organization and go to another one only to rebuild for another few seasons?

You can't expect another tanking season to attract any big name FA, regardless of whether or not the money is there for two.

We're definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place though.
Walsh Didn't Expect Struggles, No Deals Imminent
Feb 03, 2010 4:37 PM EST

Knicks president Donnie Walsh didn't expect the team to play as poorly as they have this season.

"I don't like the way we played, it was a disappointment," Walsh said after practice Tuesday. "I didn't see the intensity, which you have to have at this point. That has to pick up."

The Knicks lost nine of their last 12 games in January and they have a brutal schedule up ahead.

"I didn't expect this," said Walsh. "If we want to compete for a playoff spot, we've got to play with more purpose, more force and more commitment."

Walsh is talking to other teams about trades, but gave no indication that anything is imminent.
Knicks' legend, Hall of Famer McGuire dies at 84
NEW YORK (AP) -- $@#% McGuire, a basketball Hall of Famer and longtime member of the New York Knicks organization, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 84.

advertisement_160.gif

The Knicks said McGuire died at Huntington Hospital in Long Island. McGuire still worked for the Knicks as a senior basketball consultant.

McGuire was a part of the Knicks' organization for 53 of its 64 seasons.

"$@#% McGuire was the epitome of what it means to be a Knickerbocker: pride, tradition and class," Knicks president Donnie Walsh said in a statement. "It was an honor to watch him play for our hometown team and I consider myself very lucky to say I worked alongside a man who shaped the National Basketball Association for parts of all eight decades of its existence."

A Bronx native, McGuire was a five-time All-Star and led the Knicks to three straight NBA finals from 1951-53. He went on to serve the team as a coach, assistant coach and scout. His No. 15 was retired in 1992 and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame a year later.

McGuire still ranks third on the Knicks' career list with 2,950 assists.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of $@#% McGuire, one of the NBA family's most beloved and respected members," Commissioner David Stern said. "As one of its first superstars, $@#% was instrumental to the early success of the NBA. Whether as player, coach, scout or consultant, $@#% loyally served the New York Knicks organization for over five decades, simply an amazing accomplishment. He will be missed. Our prayers and condolences go out to his wife Teri and the entire McGuire family."

Nicknamed "Tricky $@#%," McGuire was born Jan. 26, 1926, in New York, part of a famed basketball family. His younger brother, Al, also played for the Knicks and later won a national championship as coach of Marquette -- before being himself inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992.

$@#% McGuire played collegiately at St. John's and was picked by the Knicks in the first round of the 1949 draft. He played eight seasons for the team before he was traded to Detroit on April 3, 1957, for a first-round pick. McGuire spent his final three seasons with the Pistons.

"$@#% was one of a kind," former St. John's coach Lou Carnesecca said. "He was a great ballplayer and coach and a better human being. All of basketball is going to miss him."

McGuire is survived by his wife, Teri, four children and seven grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.

R.I.P. *##$ McGuire, legends never die.

I will be rooting hard for gallo in the 3 point contest but ive been saying it for awhile. While i do consider him to be in the top 3-5 or so best 3 point shooters in the NBA, i dont know how well he will do in a 3 point contest, primarily because he has such a slow release. In the 3 point contest you need to be able to release it quickly and move on to your next ball.

We're not a playoff team. All I'm watching for now is development of our young players and even that gets boring since now are extremely exciting to watch and are never going to develop into leaders of championship caliber teams.
