I completely disagree.. that Chelsea team was terrible.. most of those notable names were well past their expiration date during that run. Like SFC said luck had a lot to do with it
My boy was an avid Chelsea fan back then trying to convert me. I was not entertained at all.

The difference between the two is that France actually has great attacking options. Deschamps just likes to play the negative way and hope one of his stars come through. That Chelsea team was just counter old school English footy.

Here I thought the English partied hard after the Sweden game

I'd be too shook to attend something like that in Paris.. feel like sitting duck for an attack

That Chelsea side definitely had some excellent defending but also had the worst football (and best luck) I've ever seen in the sport. Park the bus, have Drogba roll around on the ground for half of the match to waste time/kill momentum, and wait for the 1-2 mistakes by the other club to go through. Not hating on it, just saying
the worrrrst football i have ever witnessed
drogba was disgraceful tbh
strongest man on the pitch by miles and would fall at any contact just so they could smash the ball in the box from 45 yards and hope that someone could toe poke the ball in

TBF I did enjoy seeing El Nino (of all players) getting that goal against Barca

Difference between the English and French, for better or for worse, is that the English seem to care more about football year round. That French crowd rolaholic rolaholic posted is astonishing, but I get the impression that the French are more fair-weather when it comes to their football.

I know I'm making sweeping generalizations, but it's just the impression I get.

Aren’t the French mostly a tennis and cycling country?

french fans > english fans

**** english fans. bunch of idiots
they are the nfl fans of footy

I'm not talking about their behavior, I'm talking about general level of interest. I just feel like, generally speaking, the French don't care as much about football as the English.

They're like 2006 Italy, not usually pretty but they take care of business. They're arguably just as balanced too

of course you did
you were still hurt that we washed you in the finals the season before in spectacular fashion
even fergie was a loss for words
HA had little to do with Barca and everything to do with how ironic it was that he picks that game to finally score a significant goal.

If I were French, I would not appreciate this comparison :lol

Aside from extra time of the semi-final against Germany, Italy played the ugliest brand of football I've ever seen from a WC champion.

LOL

I don't mind their fans...I just don't like their brand of football. Now they got France playing their brand of football smh
You're our only hope Obi Wan Croatia.
If England wins the world cup...we will see Japan, Senegal, Argentina and Mexico playing England's brand of football LOL
Its a copy cat world

i hear you...and i have nothing to add cause ligue one is the only league i won't watch

I mean it got the job done which was my main point

This squad has the personnel to play open and free flowing footy but DD's experience in international footy has made hie prefer a much more conservative and controlled playing style in tourneys. As much as I don't appreciate seeing all that talent reduced to that,I can't really argue with the results. They were a late winner from probably winning the Euro's with the same safe tactics

Hate to break it to you, but Argentina hasn't played a nice brand of football since 2006-2007 (when Riquelme was in his prime).

We might've reached the Final of the 2014 World Cup, but we didn't exactly do it in style.

but yall did not have the level of talent france does

yall gotta stop making excuses for this terrible footy
**** deschamps...he's not doing ****. he's just blessed with amazing talent.

Those complaints about Englands style are funny when the only squad to do ****housery at this WC better than England has been France and it has them in the final

Granted they have the talent to probably still be able to get to the final playing different styles...

Agreed. Efficient but not fun to watch.
If people don't like the Chelsea comparison than the 1998 and 2002 England teams were the other copy of this French team. Go back and watch. England had stars everywhere and on attack too (Shearer, Owen, Beckham) but chose the conservative and controlled style. Fortunately Argentina took them out on penalties in 98 (shout out to Roa) and Brazil took them out in Qtrs in 2002 (shout out to Ronaldinho)...that free kick is still giving David Seaman nightmares.
