∞True Detective Season 1 Thread ***CLOSED***∞

can't believe those 2 morons found him :smh:

Who the new detectives? What makes them morons? Finding someone they're not looking for?
Word Rust was up close talking to him and didn't know what or who he was looking for.

Funny enough and this just comes to me for laughs, a guy like Dexter would've figured him out with his computer and killed him by ep 4

I really wanted to see what was on the tape.

it was of that young girl getting sexually abused/raped. you don't want to see that
Nah I wanted to see it to further push home how sick these guys are. Not the full act like I want to see child abuse but just the hand about to initiate the act to keep the viewer tense about what these guys are about to do. What they went for was a not seen but still effective approach but it didn't really work for me.

They established the girls they found were all raped and tortured before they were killed.  We didn't need to see the tape because they've already described what happens.  People wouldn't have been cool with even the brief showing of violence against children.
Again, I'm not asking to see rape and torture. Maybe you didn't understand what I posted.

This has more to do with how the seen was written and directed than seeing the whole tape.
No, I get what you're saying.  What I'm saying is a little girl was blindfolded and held down in position in the woods by a group of masked men while another masked man, presumably the one whose sexual fetish is raping virgin infants, approached her malevolently.

And we're told "she was raped, tortured, and murdered."

I don't really get what more you needed to see to get the point across...?

I actually think considering all the Carcosa/Lovecraftian mythology talk that's been flying around Rust like 1/2 of the internet would probably be disappointed if the spaghetti monster turned out to be anyone but

I posted it on previous pgs quite clearly. If you don't get it, you don't get it.

For me what that scene was going for fell flat. I didn't react the way Marty did or really connect as it went on, just left some curiosity.

I like how now all of that Lovecraft Cthulhu nonsense was just bs this group believed in. I coincidentally read a few comics by Alan Moore a few weeks ago paying homage to Lovecraft (who pays homage to Chambers) and it's pretty sick ****, especially when you lean more to Lovecraft's work and not sick like the crimes these guys are committing. Sick like sea monsters and **** raping ppl and taking over the world sick. Had all of the buzz words from carcosa to aklo to the yellow sign being dropped.

Yeah.

It's even worse when you learn that Lovecraft is a horrible racist, classist, and anti semite and that all of that Cthulu and monster mythos was really about immigrants and Blacks invading America and making it impure.

I think Carcosa was basically a metaphor for what would become of America after foreigners sullied it.

Yeah I read up on Lovecraft's hateful perspective. This monster **** didn't turn me all the way off but when I read that I had no more interest to read his work. I can deal with racism and a viewpoint of hatred in literature but when the characters are just a mouthpiece for the writer that actually feels that way it's just plain drivel.

I also read for some reason or other before he died Lovecraft regretted his racism, antisemitism, etc. No surprise this is early 20th century.

Yeah.  I mean he's one of the modern father's of horror so understandably most current horror writers/filmmakers love his work.  Ignore the racist undertones and it's decent stuff.

But most people who you mention his racist views to basically just reply "It was the early 1900s. Everyone was racist and hated immigrants."  So yeah.

I can't get past what dude named his cat though

This dude that keeps complaining they didn't show enough of the tape is giving me the creeps....for real bro? Stay out of this thread with those nasty thoughts, you shouldn't be allowed around children.

Woody's reactions were a little cartoony, but they didn't need to show anymore of that tape.

I don't think Marty's reaction was too over the top because it is how he has reacted in the past.

When he found the kids in Ledoux's cook house, his last day on the job :x and when Rust showed him the tape.

Marty even said he couldn't handle seeing things like that and its why he quit.

Nah, I completely get that he had a strong reaction. It's how it was setup and Woody's acting, that were a little cartoony to me.

It's just...that big Star Wars "Noooooooo!" at the end. I get that it was ****** up, but he just looked at the pictures...it wasn't some big unexpected plot twist. It wasn't something happening right now in front of him. Then you throw in the flask gag and I'm kinda sideeye-in it.

It's the diff between how someone on BB'd react in the situation vs. someone on Dexter.

Took me outta the moment. But I guess that's a good thing, cuz I didn't wanna be in that moment anymore. :smh:

As much as I'm anticipating the season finale, I hate the fact that its gonna be the last we see of Rust and Marty

Any idea as to when we can expect a second season?

they def could have stretched this story line for at least one more season, however, im more than content with the current pacing of the show

Besides it's illegal...if they were to show it, HBO would be shut down for good. Why do you think they took down the R.Kelly pissing love tape from the net? Watching it like partaking in an act of child porngraphy.

5 dudes in masks creeped up on a little girl and we know they raped and killed her...

And someone actually wants to see that?

Why is nobody discussing the fact that Rust basically killed ol girl who was in the interrogation room?

I also love how in the beginning they stressed jumping to conclusions and piecing the narrative around your assumptions which i think is purposely done on this show.
