Because many feel that since the child isn't theirs, they won't have the fulfillment that having their own children would bring.
It really shouldn't matter, but people don't have that connection between an adopted child and one they created.

all the points the author brings up are 100% true, but i'd have it no other way. i love my kids and the little quality time i get with my wife is all that much more special. spread that seed but be a true daddy to your offspring.

I have enough kids around to NOT want any of my own. JO's kids. Nephews. Friends/family with kids. I enjoy babysitting and watching em for a few hours and after a few hours I am so grateful that I don't have kids. I can't imagine taking care of kids/babies 24/7.... a few hours is TORTURE enough so imagine on a full time basis especially with no nanny? HOLY CRAP!
I mean eventually when I am in my mid 40's I might want to impregnate a 20 something year old female to have my seed but for right now I am cool.

I wouldn't want to give up my freedom. With kids, you have to put them first before yourself. They're like anchors.
I'm the oldest child in my family, so I feel like in a way that my younger brother and sister are like my kids. I've had to help raise them and help them out a lot during the past few years. Sometimes you want to just worry about yourself and no one else.
With all that being said, I might want to have a kid or two when I get in my mid-30s.

i feel like i wrote this in my sleep or something. Jae Won Joh took the words right out my mouth. people find it odd but i never had the urge to have children. Back in grade school when we used to draw pictures of our lives as adults, i was the lone kid who drew a pic of himself instead of a family with a wife and kids (teachers sent me to the school psych office on more than one occasion). I'd rather put that energy towards bettering myself and furthering my own goals. If i absolutely decided to "have" a kid, i'd adopt. Plenty of other kids out there who need parents, and i'd be skipping the whole baby toddler phase

I knew a woman whose lame excuse for not wanting children was "the world is a terrible place" and "I'm afraid that I would be bringing them to a doomed place" or something like that.
My argument against that line of thought is:
A. When has the world been better? As if your ancestors had it easy and tomorrow was always promised for them.
B. Your ancestors went through everything they went through, the blood line got all the way to you after all these years and you just selfishly decide to end it, with you? Get over yourself.
C. In the not too distant past some of my relatives were slaves. Somehow their genes made it to become a part of me. Your life is not that difficult.
D. Stop being a ##*@!.

Babies are too annoying IMO. They pee in your face, cry for no reason, and wake up in the middle of the night crying. Not to mention your girl will have gained some weight due to the pregnancy, sometimes a ton. And I like em a lil thick so that post pregnancy weight might push her into the fat category. ,I'll pass.

Some responses are beyond laughable. Life is what you make it and one's path is not the same path everyone should be on.
If you want kids or marriage, good for you, whatever makes you happy. As for me, I never want children and I'm never getting married. I want to travel the world, constantly improve myself, and have fun for as long as possible.

I understand that's why I asked that cause it voids the selflessness argument. If raising kids is about selflessness then shouldn't more people be adopting. And do parents who abandon their kids have them selflessly? Some may argue that having children is actually a very selfish act, many people have a lot to gain by having kids that's why they wonder why others refuse to. These benefits range from personal fulfillment to passing your genes or your family legacy, these aren't selfless reasons.
