Dude, that city has been numerously rated as the number 1 tourist destination in the world. It's no where NEAR as dangerous as you think.
The inner city (which no one goes to) is really bad, but the suburbs are pretty decent. I read in the news lately there's been more hi-jackings out there though.

I been to Border Towns in Mexico. TIJUANA, CIUDAD JUAREZ, LAREDO, NOGALES. Been to Tepito in Mexico city and been in the worse areas of Kingston, Jamaica. I think I past the fear factor of going anywhere
