The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

I’m not far into Sekiro at all (~4 hours) but Bloodborne is still the best of its kind imo. That being said, I don’t even think Sekiro and Bloodborne are similar enough for Sekiro to even be considered “soulsborne”.
It wasn't supposed to be. It was originally developed to be a new tenchu game but veered off into its own thing

Not feeling sekiro so far. If it’s supposed to “click” at some point, I’m far from it. Currently getting destroyed by the dude in purple in the estate. No idea what kind of move he’s rolling out and what kind of counter I’m supposed to use.

Camera also keeps getting weird

if you have the dagger run up to him quick when he is getting up and poison him. Deflect that rush he does but be careful cause you take damage. And when you need to poison him again do so after the deflection (there is just enough time)

Yeah the game is more about skill and patience. It is truly difficult. Just gotta forget what you know about other games.

Either Sekiro is ******* hard or I stink. I haven't played Bloodborne or Dark Souls so this is a completely new experience to me. Def not as hack and slashish as I thought it would be. Can't just spam attack. Really have to think about defending, countering, and timing.

Sekiro ain't my cup of tea, man.

Never been able to get into that style of game. I'd wanna slam my head through a wall.

Yep when I first saw the trailer for Sekiro I already knew I wasn't going to like it... Games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne aren't for me

Sekiro is incredibly difficult, but that's part of the charm. When you actually defeat a challenging enemy, you get a huge sense of accomplishment.

Last night I just beat the boss at the top of Ashina Castle. Was stuck on him for nearly 40 minutes trying to memorize attack patterns, while Hirata Estate boss i was stuck on for nearly 2 hours.

Genichiro was rough, but in his third form he uses a lightning strike attack. If you jump and attack him while in mid-air while he does that lightning attack it does about a third of his vitality and a chunk of posture. After that a few deflects and he was toast. Nearly impossible to heal in this battle too.

This game is amazing.

I still have to go back and kill this dude, he was murking me every time I tried to take him out so I just grabbed the item and dipped

The camera angle does go wild sometimes, and the lock on system cant keep up with enemies when u switch sides a lot. Outside of that the game is pretty well done, having an absolute blast with it.

I can't wait for this. I hope we have another Astro Bot hit on our hands.
One of the best looking VR games.

This on the other hand I'm skeptical off but I hope it's good.

I don’t necessarily agree with the sense of accomplishment part. Maybe I just need to keep playing and gitting more gud, but half of the time I feel like I got lucky when taking out a mini-boss. And I in a sense proved that to myself last night against purple dude. After finally beating him once, it took me 3 more hours to be able to beat him in back to back attempts. When I finally did that, I felt the accomplishment of finally and truly besting him. And that felt better than many of my previous wins against him. But the thing is that the real mini-bosses and bosses don’t respawn and there’s no mode to replay them. So more often than getting that sense of besting an enemy, I’ll win based on a combo of me playing solidly enough, but also along with the computer rolling out less of their OP moves and more of their moves that leaves them open. The fact that many of the times I finally beat a mini-boss doesn’t just hinge on my own skill, but also on them messing up/playing poorly, takes away from the rewarding feeling.

Contrast that with another difficult game I’ve played recently, Celeste, and in that game I felt that as the deaths accumulated, I actually was improving. And not necessarily just for that one situation/level, but just overall improving on my grasp of the game. That felt more rewarding.

Bro are you talking about the dude that you practice against? He’s kinda like a tutorial and doesn’t die.

Genichiro felt like the first real skill check...it took me HOURS to beat him

The strategy that worked best for me was to keep close and use a combo of Loaded Ax and Cloud Passage to constantly attack his posture

Third phase actually felt easier to me because he loses all of his armor and attacks do more damage to his vitality...just need to remember to jump

Are you being entertained by the game though? I got a PS4 Pro recently and got some games on the cheap - enjoyed some and some weren't for me. I work corporate, live on my own and don't have too much time to play, but when I do I like to just de-stress/unwind.

What you're describing seems more like a chore/task and you aren't really enjoying it. That's perfectly fine, not every game is for everyone. I prefer to mess with older titles as they're <$20 and it's OK taking the L on them if I don't like 'em.

Not clicking spoiler. But I am gonna try to take him on tonight and I am not excited about it if I’m being honest. Tried last night just for kicks and yeeeaahhhh imma need to do some homework

I have a tendency to complain about games in the beginning so I’m going to reserve my judgement  this game really does seem like a different animal though. There are definitely things I enjoy about the game. Just hope I start feeling a sense of reward/accomplishment for overcoming the difficulty. Instead of feeling like I finally made it on a lucky attempt. Another game that comes to mind is Furi. That game was also punishing, but I felt like when I’d beat a boss it was just about always an accomplishment. This is all obviously my own personal take/experience.

If I were on your schedule then I’d definitely wait for a massive sale or possibly never touch this game unless I was diehard about From and/or Samurai/Ninjas. I’m starting medical school in a few months and in the meantime working an easy job from home. It’s realistically the last window that I’ll have the time and patience available to me to play a game like this. Unless it was a sequel of a difficult game that I have the hang of and the sequel’s mechanics are firmly rooted in its predecessor (eg if there were a Bloodborne 2 that played enough like BB1.)

Gotcha I'm older and my work and life are pretty challenging so games offer a means of escape. NT's favourite Bloodborne is <$20 but I know it's not for me.

Good luck with med school.

I feel you dude, I see myself going for the more moderate games than the grinds/challenges in the future.

Thank you man, will definitely need it.

Been practicing combat with the zombie dude for like an hour. While I can beat him, I feel like I don't fully get it. I press L1 when the dude raises his arms up and circle when he charges at me. I don't attack until I see the red circle. Am I doing it right?
