If you buy a ps2, you don't need a ps1. Although, you will need a ps1 memory card to save ps1 game saves.

For example, say on call of duty it would take longer for me to get on match compared to the 360 which is almost instantly. Mind you this was before my ps3 crapped out with the YLOD.

my understanding is that theyve been given an "allocation", probably guaranteed by sony

From my understanding, it doesn't allow you to download old games.
You subscribe to the service and you get to play old games by streaming it to your ps4.
I could be wrong though.
