Got that Sword Art Online game on the Vita from the birthday sale, $15.99. Can't believe that its already 3 years old. Also caught up on that Kinda Funny Games PS edition. Colin saying Wild Arms is the best RPG for the PSOne is laughable. There are better PSX RPGs than Wild Arms not named Final Fantasy in Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, Star Ocean 2.
Fighting games hold a special place in my heart, grew up playing against my brother and cousins. I had SF II for SNES and Genesis. Genesis was crazy because the controller only had A B C, so to change from punch to kick you had to press start.
I remember getting MK when it first came out and hiding the gameplay from my ma because of all the blood. Scorpion was my dude. Start, up, up at the right distance for his finisher. I remember playing the Fatal Furys and Art of Fighting before KoF came out. KoF was the original "Vs" fighting game. Then SF made a character named Dan, basically mocking the main dude Ryo for Art of Fighting. Killer Instinct for SNES was amazing, Orchid was my main, but i loved playing as every character, besides cinder. We played the hell out of that black cartridge. I even bought the KI soundtrack back in the day and used some songs as our "entrance music" when me and my cousins used to wrestle.
I remember playing Ballz 3D and Clay fighter on genesis too.
The PSOne changed the game though. Battle Arena Toshinden (1 and 2) was the ****. I missed the first Tekken, but TK2 and 3 were awesome. When my cousin first showed me the chain throws King and Nina had I was
. Jun's infinite combo in Tekken 2
. Soul Blade was probably one of my favorite new franchises though, everyone with unique weapons. I don't want to talk about all the great things about every title, but I remember playing all these games on PSOne:
SF Alpha series
SF EX series
Pocket Fighter
Tobal No1 and 2
Ranma 1/2
Bushido Blade
Rival Schools
Dead or Alive
Marvel Super Heroes
X-Men
X vs SF
Marvel vs SF
MvC
KoF
Bloody Roar series
Guilty Gear
Thrill Kill, which I think was banned in the states.
I never played Darkstalkers, the only reason i know some of the characters is from Pocket Fighter and the Vs series. Can't remember many new fighting games introduced in the PS2 era besides more Vs games, and the next installments of previous fighters.
I don't remember much about Virtua Fighter, but i remember playing it on Sega Saturn and to play as the boss DURAL, you do the input on the character select screen, Down, Up, R, A, L. Then for Dreamcast, theres PowerStone, Jojo's bizarre adventure, MvC2 on Dreamcast was the best way to play that game on console.
My fam went to the Philippines a lot and videogames were dirt cheap, plus i had the swap trick for the psx and a chipped ps2. My PSone and PS2 catalog was easily 300+ burned and imported games
