The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 US Open)

Upset alert: Murray down two sets to love against Mannarino.

Edit: Crisis averted. Andy wins in 5 sets by finishing him off with an ace.

Who in the hell scheduled these night matches? Nobody wants to watch Wozniacki play lackluster tennis in primetime.

The night matches in general haven't interested me much this year.

Serena has a tough match against BMS tonight. She is a great doubles player that can throw off Serena's rhythm if she's nervous. Serena will need to play much better than she did against Bertens.

Geeez, what happened Caro?

Cetkovska played some great points down all those MP's, that's for sure.

I think they said only 3 of the top 10 women's seeds are left in the tournament. Wish there was more consistency with the women players.

Yes Serena Petra and Simona. But Aga, Vika and Venus still floating about for what it's worth

The women's game is deeper than it has ever been and there really isn't that large of a gap between the top 5 (other than Serena) and anyone else in the top 50 or 100. As Mary Carillo says, "Big Babe Tennis" is here to stay. All it takes is for a hard hitting player firing on all cylinders and a top player can get beat.

I'm conflicted about this Venus-Bencic match... I'd like to see Venus make a nice run, but I'd HATE to see Venus play Serena here in the QFs with so much on the line for the younger sister. Felt bad watching them play at Wimbledon. Then again, Baelinda could be an even bigger threat to Serena.

Fognini-Nadal later tonight. Please don't lose to Fog again, Rafa.

I don't remember this being discussed in here. But thoughts on Federer's surprise half volley return of serve tactic?

I like it and get the idea of taking away timing and disrupting rhythm but does anyone thing some players may take offense to it? Then again it is Federer.

SABR is a decent tactic but I don't know how well it will work against the top guys in a 5 set match. It is great way to change up the pace but the top guys adjust very quickly.

That was Venus at her best. Lil' sis better get her act together soon... That B-level tennis Serena's been playing as of late can beat most players on tour, but it's not going to cut it against big sis's A-level.

As for Federer, I think it's great that he's trying something new at this point in his career. Even with all he's accomplished, I think it shows he's still hungry for more Grand Slams at the age of 35. Since he's so well respected in the tennis world, I can't imagine a whole lot of players taking offense by it.

Sadderday is gonna come early.

Edit: Sheesh. That 2nd set was intense. Hoping she comes out swinging in the 3rd
