The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 US Open)

Such a somber crowd after the W. Guess they're tired of seeing Serena win? Not even cheering as loud for her as they did for Muguruza as runner up.

Serena.

She's aged like a fine Bordeaux :hat, just incredible at how dominant she still is... pulling off a calendar grand slam over a decade after acheiving it the first time :x :x :smokin :smokin

Wonder why? Because Fed's won multiple times and he's loved by the W crowd.

They actually booed her when she told them to back off and be quiet when they were riding that unranked girl hard and cheering loudly during play back in the 3rd round :lol :{

Never phases her though :smokin

Maybe they didn't realize she had won? Because I didn't.

When she got the final point and Fowler said she won I was like "That's it?"

Serena didn't even realize she won.

Let's get it tomorrow, Fed.

"Old" players showing these young ones how to win.

I bet the USO draw for Serena will be brutal. Her draw for this run was insane if you really look at it.

Will the tennis gods bless us with a Fed/Serena Wimbledon combo slam again? 2012 was the last time for both of them. It's in the cards my friends.

Its Serena's world. Everyone else is just a visitor. Goodness gracious. Nike gotta give her a "LeBron/Kobe/MJ/Jeter" type ad.

Was it hard to get tickets? I'm told over 60% of the tickets every year automatically goto the Wimbeldon club, and everyone else has to scramble for the remaining 40-odd %.

Also, can you drink on the courts?

You can drink on the courts but mostly Pimms and Champagne!

There are three ways to get tickets if you have no connections.
Join the queue around 24 hours before the day you want - - 500 centre and number 1 tickets go there or
500 tickets to centre court go on sale at 9am on ticket master the following days play - that method will be familiar members on here - captcha- bots etc - it's fastest fingers first. That's how I got tickets for mens semis yesterday.
The largest allocation of tickets go to the public raffle. Around 5k tickets for centre and 6k tickets for number one and nearly all number 2 court tickets each day go to the public raffle. You apply in August and the closing date is December, I have never once in 20 years plus of trying the public raffle got tickets that way.

In addition if you are a member of an LTA member club as I am you can enter the LTA members raffle and they have about 2k tickets for centre and number one court tickets each day. I once got tickets that way in about 5 years of trying.

you can buy a ground pass each day that gets you into courts 3 to 18 but you have to queue and you need to be in the queue around 6am to get into 3, 12 or 18 (non tickets show courts).

Other ways to get ticekts is to know someone. My grandad was an umpire back in the sixties so is on the staff list and they get random allocation each year so I have got ticekts that way around 10 times.

Then there is knowing a sponsor - eg Robinson are official drinks supplier and I once got invited to a corporate thing with them as I dael with them at work.

Finally if your rich you can buy a debenture or a days debenture but you need at least £1k each for that route minimum.

Excellent stuff. Thank you for the insights

I'd love to go to a major one day, whether its WImbledon or the US Open. Just out of curiosity, how much money should be spent to get decent seats? And for the overall trip?

Tickets for mens semis were £140 each but I also went on the first Wednesday which was second round and the tickets were £70. They go up with each round. Both centre.

The rest of the trip is expensive eg car park £30, one glass of Pimms is £8, food is about £10 for chicken and chips. The shop is very expensive. Those polo shirts the ball kids wear are £115 and even a key ring is a £5

Despite all this it's worth every penny - it's the best day out in sport and there is no other venue as nice as Wimbledon.

I don't care what you paid for your tickets, you're getting insane value for money right now...whatever you paid...

Yes your right. Obviously I was disappointed that Murray lost - most people here really thought this was his year . But he came up against the best player of all time playing at his golden era level. You could really tell on court by that every shot Fed hit was so so clean with so much depth and his serve was just impossible. Andy didn't do a lot wrong, it wasnt the best I have seen him play but it certainly was not far off and that 10th game was worth the £140 ticket price on its own.mbasicalltpy I think he was just in the way of destiny and Fed is going to win the record 8th tomorrow. Playing like that even Nole is going to struggle.
