The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 US Open)

He's hit a few nice FH's, but has missed too many winnable ones.   Dreddy's not giving him any rhythm.

And LMAO at his 2nd serve avg of 112mph or something... Low-percentage tactic, but working today.

We have a Dreddy fan in the house?

But what a performance... please continue to play well.  Always frustrating when they dish out these sort of performances but crash in the next round.

I hope this isn't a fluke as well,I'd love to see a few fresh faces go deep aside from the usual suspects

Rafa still being cool with the fans and signing autographs/taking pics even in crushing defeat, all class

. I do hope he can come back from this, this must be devastating given his struggles lately.

That's what I mean though... what happened to Rosol?

The verdict is still out on NK, so we'll see.

Dolgopolov beat Rafa at Eastbourne a couple weeks ago with similarly amazing tennis, but missed all his shots in his next match.  Frustrating to see.

In other tennis news, New York's Noah Rubin, the 2014 Wimbledon Junior Champion, has turned pro, making his debut today in Tulsa, Okla

Rafa's descent continues. The juice is gone. I wonder if Federer watched this and thought about how he refused to change his game while Rafa owned him early own. Federer didn't change his game until it was clear that he wasn't just better than everybody except Rafa smh.

The very first game pretty much set the tone of the match.

Nadal at 100% wasn't able to defeat Dustin on grass last year, so the loss isn't a HUGE surprise... Still, it's disappointing to see him lose to the same guy on the biggest court in tennis history. I'm not much of a Nadal fan, but even I was cheering "Vamos" when he faced match points. It's just not right seeing him constantly lose like this.

Novak was straight disrespectful for posting an image on Twiiter of himself and his team watching Wimbledon while that match was on.

Djoker also has another opponent that could be a potential threat... Bernard Tomic.

Finally getting a chance to watch a re-run this Dustin - Rafa match. Work lately has me missing all the action. What a wild and unexpected match.

I'm loving some of Dustin's unorthodox shot choices.

It should be noted that that match at Halle last year was right after Rafa had won RG... he basically had a few days of rest before he stepped on a grass court for the first time.

IIRC, most slam finalists rarely jump right into the next tournament so soon.  I think Rafa mentioned, at that time, that he didn't want to withdraw from Halle again, which was why he showed up relatively unprepared on grass.

The media took that match, too much, at face-value, when they should have mentioned those specific circumstances.
