The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 US Open)

I'm so tired of this escape artist tennis. Venus won't allow this foolishness on Center Court Monday. We all know that.

I love serena, but I was thinking the same thing. Venus would have eaten today against her

But the crowd won't cheer like a Davis Cup match either. Reminded me of Roddick's run at the US Open when the crowd interfered in his Semi and were a major reason why he won that year.

Vee can't be trusted either. We all know she can turn into an unforced error machine.

Less likelihood of that happening on grass especially Center Court at Wimbledon. Serena is only up 14-11 head to head. Venus has the tools on grass if nowhere else.

Heart of a m************ champion!!

Pissed that I couldn't watch the match, but I was listening to it on the Wimby app. The app put out a notification saying "Is Serena Williams in trouble? Tune in now..." when Heather was up 3-0 in the third. [emoji]128514[/emoji]

Well, it's actually happening, guys... Serena vs. Venus at Wimbledon! [emoji]128563[/emoji] I cannot wait for round 26. This might be the last time we ever see them play each other at a Slam.

Everything you said is true. Serena has to play way better to beat Vee but when was the last big match Vee won at Wimbledon? Last year she should've beat Petra and choked. Vee is the better grass court player because Serena's game is more tailored to clay courts ever since she switched coaches. Serena doesn't hit through the court like she used to which is something Vee does extremely well.

crazy how some announcers be disappointed when Serena escapes

they can't even hide it because it's blatantly shown in their facial expressions

bow down and respect greatness.....she's past her prime and still flexing when most women tennis players be hanging it up

No breaker in the 5th at slams.

How the hell is there enough light to keep playing?

^ Edited my post. Been a long week. Looks like they're heading into tomorrow. Maybe a repeat of 5 years ago with the 70/68 5th against Mahut. But I doubt we'll see that. If Isner doesn't keep his serve up, he's toast.

So proud of our girl Heather. But counts for nothing if she doesn't push on from here. She made Serena very uncomfortable but in the end Serenas experience told. Respect to both players. Really please me if Venus had one last hurrah over her little sister on the big stage Monday.

Re Isner match I'm 60 miles from Wimbledon and can tell you it's bloody dark here right now.

Rafa's descent continues. The juice is gone. I wonder if Federer watched this and thought about how he refused to change his game while Rafa owned him early own. Federer didn't change his game until it was clear that he wasn't just better than everybody except Rafa smh.
It's ironic how the parallels are present with Fed/Nadal.

The difference is that we all predicted that Nadal couldn't keep this style of play for long. After the things I've heard about Uncle Toni being super stubborn and having major tunnel vision, I'll be surprised if Nadal pulls the trigger and gets another coach. He's lost a lot of confidence and you can tell he's straining through points.

I also see Serena winning against Venus.

The US Open does have 5th set tiebreaks. The rest do not.
Ah, yes... I keep forgetting that.  It brings up an interesting debate on whether or not they should bring the TB back for slams... but other than for guys like Jizzzner who can't return, is this really a problem for the rest of the tour?  How often do they go into the "6th set"?   Arguments could certainly be made for both sides.

Not the same situation, but it reminded me of this...

Yeah, Hev deserves a lot of credit too...  at 3-0 in the 3rd it was, by no means, over.  When Serena got back on serve, many started to wonder if Hev would be able to win another game.  She hung in there and fought.

2 critical points late in the 3rd that decided the match... the overhead which Serena hit that landed right on the sideline and that short backhand putaway that Hev missed.
