Dern is pretty one dimensional. Going forward she has three options:

Work on her wrestling to aid her to get her opponents to the ground. She fails on 90% of her take downs, which means she has no method to force her opponents to engage where she’s dangerous from.

Sharpen her striking. Jason Perrillo (SP) is a competent striking coach but right now there’s no threat to a Rose, Yan, Carla, Zhang, Andrade, Rodriguez and with a poor take down conversion. It’s just Dern eating punches, absorbing kicks, etc. Option 1-2 probably takes 12 month to 18 months. She’s going to get beaten by the top five in women’s SW.

Go home and be a mom. You should be proud you made it to the UFC. You were a champion BJJ grappler.

I actually think her striking has improved a bit but it's just bizarre she has never addressed her lack of wrestling. She'd steamroll through the division if she could add some wrestling or even judo.

Her striking isn’t good. Jason Parillo is a good striking coach. Dern hasn’t made the turn like fellow countryman, Charles Oliviera. IMO…she mainly ate knuckle sandwiches and was like a striking sponge to get inside to try to get Zan down on the grind to grapple. Another example she can view in tapes is Damian Maia. He was fairly one dimensional at the start of his career. He improved his striking and wrestling to aid his grappling game. She doesn’t have an effective jab or solid leg kicks.

Point is if her opponent keeps her on the outside, has solid takedown defense, which the top five do. She’s losing a decision or getting KO’d. Zhang Weili, Jessica Andrade, Marina Rodriguez, Carla Esparza, and Rose are probably going to be favorites against. Her two recent losses have shown the blueprint to beating her. I’d hope She’s not going to play that striking sponge with Rose or Weili. JJ retired….but she would have peppered Mackenzie.

Her grappling is incredible. Best grappler in women’s MMA.

She’s still young in MMA years (29) that she can take off a year and maybe do a camp at Tiger Muay Thai, do a month at AKA and then go back to her camp with Parillo and level-up.

I gotta be honest. I was low key mad watching Bellator yesterday. Why did their main card start so late? Why do they have Big John McCarthy as a commentator (he’s terrible)? How come they don’t pair someone good with Mauro Freaking Ranallo (probably the best sports broadcaster today)? And why put the show behind the Showtime pay wall (unless you live in Mexico, Canada, or Europe)? Also Pitbull is like Izzy…he can have exciting finishes but boring fighter once he goes into safe point fighting.
