The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

I'm 50/50 on the Nate thing.

He signed a deal. He should honor it. Now because Melendez played hardball, he thinks he can too.

From a business standpoint, I knew that Melendez deal would get the UFC into trouble and I personally would have let him walk. And I like Gil.

But let's be real here. If Nate can get 120k per fight. + potential bonuses. That's 240k for 2 wins per year.

How do sponsorships work? I would imagine that offsets some costs.

And the UFC isn't their only income stream. I'm sure they teach jits. Private lessons=mad $$$. Seminars. Appearances etc.

It's amazing to me that the guys that lost to Bendo and got his head kicked in by Punk is complaining the most after beating ******* Gray Maynard.

**** atta here.

But he's a gamer. Longtime Nick fan and Nate has put on some great fights. I'd just like more fights and less talk.

Best way to get a better deal is fight and win.

Regarding sponsors, I think the fighters can have any sponsor they want outside of the octagon. But if you wanna wear a sponsor's logo on your shorts during a fight or on your banner, they have to be approved by UFC. So they have to pay the sponsor tax which is between $50k-$250k a year. That's why Silva and Jones haven't had Nike logos on their shorts their last fights because they won't pay the sponsor tax to UFC. Same thing with GSP and Under Armour.

Mendes is now saying that he definitely believes that Aldo uses PEDs. He thinks that Aldo's sudden injury is because he saw guys getting caught with random drug testing and him wanting the fight in Brazil is because they can get away with doing that stuff there.

Yup, I read the article yesterday. He basically said that he's trying to get the rematch out of Brasil because of all the corruptness going on over there (If a test is failed, he thinks they just pay off the people to not disclose it).

stan said pat healy has p4p the biggest head in the ufc.

Been busy as all hell, I'll check out the last couple pages later...

Made sure I had some free time to kick back a few Budweiser's and watch Cowboy go to work tonight, though :hat

Like Champ, heart is all in for Cerrone, but mind says Miller.

Dude weighed in light. Don't know if i've ever seen a ww weigh in at 165.5. Maybe Penn went in light a few times.

Good kick by Barboza. I hope he can get a top 10 guy and win.

I didn't know Frankie Edgar is a former ufc featherweight champ? :lol

miller's a tough dude but it should have been stopped after that miscalled groin shot

Desperation and urgency higher than ever in Cerrone. Soften Miller's body, force him to drop his hands. Fake punch as diversion, head kick from the same side.

Story's weight and strength advantage were almost unfair.

Barboza's right body kick was glancing. Didn't even land flush and Dunham is a tough customer.

Salas really should have won his fight. He was landing heavy leather through two rounds before getting caught with the short, counter left hook.

"Broke" Cerrone is a dangerous fighter. He may make his goal of 6 fights this year. I guess Khabib is next for him.

@ChampCruThik  did you end up going to the fights?

Cowboy and Miller were the only ones asking Dana for Khabib. Cerrone is dialed-in, extremely focused and supremely deadly with his knees and kicks.

Had to pass. Two other jobs, one of which I'm reporting to at 9 AM. My MMA/boxing coverage and writing is third-income.

Miller has a tough chin and is a tough SOB to not have his lights go out on that head kick. That **** was right on the money.

Great grappler and underrated dirty boxing, but Miller is cursed with being very good. Not great. Not quite good enough to challenge for a title with the depth of the division.

man its crazy to see how far MMA and the UFC has come. fox sports does a great job providing a professional platform for MMA. i still remember going to blockbuster in the mid 90s begging my dad to rent me the latest UFC because that was the only way to watch.

 oh how times have changed.

Cowboy pretty much in the same boat as Miller. Dudes string out long win streaks but can't quite clinch it. Cerrone aint gonna beat any of the top dudes (Pettis, Benson etc.) and he's my favorite fighter. I would love to see him get revenge on Nate, as much as I love Nate it was tough seeing Cowboy getting owned. That would be my dream match stylistically. It's probably going to be Khabib though.

Nate trashing Cowboy on Twitter recently too lol

Got a bunch of crazy fights at lightweight:

Benson vs. RDA

Thomson vs. Green

Pettis vs. Melendez

Sheesh

If this happens I expect to see Cerrone rag dolled for 3 rounds. I think his best chance would be in rounds 4 & 5 cause Khabib slows down a lot in the 3rd round.

I missed all of the fights last night except for Cerrone/Miller but I expected to see the highlights on SportsCenter cause no other big time games were going on. Instead they did a bunch of espy recap, summer league highlights, a triple a all star game highlights, and even showed highlights from the wnba, but no ufc. Idk if it was ESPN or ufc's choice cause of their contract with fox, but I think they missed a huge opportunity to be heavily featured on SC.

I'd rather see Bendo/Khabib personally.

Kind of bizarre they have Bendo at #1 contender in the UFC.

Khabib at 4.

Cerrone at 6.

Yet the commentators are saying Khabib vs. Cerrone for a title shot against Pettis/Melendez winner?

That's bad math.

dana probably gave them a mathematical equation to figure out the contender. Answer always ends up being whoever the ufc feel like giving a title shot.

I'd be in favor for Khabib/Bendo too. Probably won't happen cause ufc likes protecting title contenders (like Gus not fighting DC).

Bendo wanted the Khabib fight. When UFC asked him to fight Rustam Khabilov he thought it was Khabib.
