The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games Thread 🔥🥇🥈🥉

the reporter interviewing was putting Shmitt on blast reading off the times lolll. She putting them behind the 8 ball being so slow. Ledecky had to black out to get silver. If they all came fast, they would've won.

problem is, some of the girls who people figured woulda developed for the US in the 200 free just haven’t

the girls are there in college but they end up transitioning out.. like Simone Manuel was a beast at Stanford in the 2 free

swimmers bodies are like aliens. so long and slender, while some are ripped. but long arms and torsos

Yeah, I think this is how you explain evolution to people who don't understand it.

Compare gymnasts to swimmers and you start to get an idea of how the human body adapts to what's needed to excel.

the funny thing is, you got some legit athletes that swim that can do other shh

but a decent amount who are completely useless outside of a pool

ive played ball with some of these dudes who were legit 6’4-6’6, was not once worried about them blocking my shot or worried about them out muscling me for a rebound or something.. and ain’t like I ever been the biggest or strongest dude

factuals. its wild. All competitive swimmers are the same. Very little variety. And you have to be tall. Short swimmers have no chance. Which is wild compared to other sports.

I was watching the rowing earlier and the commentator says you have to be at least 6'2 to win there. Because the taller rowers get such longer pulls.

sports becoming Darwinism lol.

Yep, if the Earth ever became flooded, society would eventually end up being built like Phelps and Ledecky (with some slight variations).

Body types like Biles would cease to exist bc they wouldn't be able to adapt as well to a newly flooded planet.

you gotta be honest with yourself, your family and your genes when it come to this sports thing

If you trying play basketball, you might be tall for regular folk at 6’2-6’3 but you get to the league and you’re a PG or undersized wing.. dressel is 6’2 and could see the dudes towering over him in the ready room

track, baseball, soccer and certain spots in football, you can be 5’9-6’0

Facts.

I have friends who have kids playing ball or their kids classmates playing ball and some of these kids think they are going somewhere at 5'10 shooting hoops.

Like, some of them have to understand that you gotta be the nicest of the nice to make it to the League at 5'10 and below.

As you said, the parents have to know what the genes and family tree is like and collectively decide if it's best to continue along a certain path.

That one of the most difficukt conversations families gotta have with young athletes. But they dont want to hear it. Instead of being realistic, you're just 'hating on my dream' and then they watch motivational youtubes talking about how people wont support you and believe in you and you're a wolf and blah blah blah...people go for that high hanging fruit and waste all that time.

I literally have a boy like that. Tried to get to the league for soooooo long. Spent his money, went to dleague tryouts. Tried so hard. And he's 5'10. I supported in the beginning. Eventually I stopped gaf. I hooped with him numerous times, he wasn't even nice like that. This wasnt one of those, mannn if only you were taller....nah...it was, mannnnn if only you were taller and like..wayyyyy better...then you def have a chance my g.

but nobody wants to hear that, so i just tell folks to do their thing and wait and see. Sometimes ya gots to see it through my boy

No question.

I've learned long ago to just let people do what they want to do and not be the buzzkill.

If at all possible, you encourage kids early to try multiple sports - even if it's just to dabble - so that if they fail in one, they have a backup plan to try another.
