Welp, I'll be back to the thread once he's banned again.

Thread already trash within hours of his arrival. What a surprise.

But @Antidope constantly wants him "freed."

Happy now anti? Thread goes downhill instantly but hey, your boy is free.

How is he any worse than your boy seaman? Ban both or let them both in here.

ELE

You can make a case for whoever you'd like, no ones stopping you.

But the person I'm making a case for is a multiple 100x repeat offender. So obviously some people can't change.

Who could the Lakers have signed that they couldn't have because of Kobe's deal?

His contract doesn't have anything to do with them whiffing in their primary targets for consecutive off seasons.
Thats something nobody could have predicted though. Nobody thought players would be passing on them like this.

Hindsight. Right now his deal isnt hampering them. But this wasnt expected.
How has it ever hampered them? They could have signed a max player last year at the beginning of the deal. Dudes just aren't going to the Lakers right now. It's not like the Lakers have ever been signing tons of top free agents. Fans of other teams say Kobe's deal hurt the Lakers just to have something to talk about. If you can still go after Melo and Bron, money is obviously not the issue.

supposedly okc offered 15 mill per already
no kidding? I read somewhere they were probably going to do the 1 year $5m deal and he'll get paid bigtime next year. Shoot, as a non-OKC fan, having them tie up that much money is a good thing.
I'm pretty sure their plan is to retain from within from here on out.. so considering they have the rights of their own guys, why would tying up money be an issue?

also on okc and the salary cap:

And OKC should resign Kanter, don't care what ya think about his defense, Serge should be handling that instead of shooting 3s anyways.

exactly, ONE max player. Kobe being a max player hampers them. He could have signed a much friendlier deal in order for them to go after TWO max deals. He's just not a max player anymore.

The reason why they havent signed top FA in the past is all about cap room. They havent been in this situation for a LONG time. They working on a limited budget previously, cap wise. They dont have 15m+ to shell out when you have Kobe/Shaq or Kobe/Gasol/Bynum on the team.

ibaka is a 38% 3 pt shooter.. the problem was scotty just having him camp out in the corner.. instead of trailing drives for put backs.. or running some sort of motion

literally had ibaka camping out for 3.. or running screen n pop with westbrook

@ZachLowe_NBA: OKC is just about $2.5M under the tax, so a max deal for Kanter would cost them nearly $40M.

I think this is assuming they sign Cameron and then don't make any other moves.

I highly doubt they are left paying that huge of an amount.

They will move (try) Novak, Jones or possibly Waiters

It must be nice to be able to tweet something like that and actually have the money to back it up :{

Mark Cuban probably put down 10 g's for the ice bucket challenge

I wasn't saying he's a bad shooter :lol ... just saying they need him do exactly what you said above and occasionally step out behind the arc.

Should you guys resign Kanter or nah?

been the same since when? Last year, when he signed it? we're gonna act like the 'basketball reasons' didn't alter the Lakers more than a 2 yr deal did, of which we've only seen a yr of? yeah...on that note, hit the showers b.

he does have a point though. Kobe fan here. If he wanted to help, he could have signed a much friendlier deal. That deal hurt them tremendously.

But I think he deserved that deal. Hell, Duncan deserves a fat deal too. But he's taking a different route.

Knowing that Kobe is all about winning rings, which is what he says all of the time, what he did showed money was more important. Or was he dumb enough to think they would be alright with him taking $24M per? I think Kobe truly thought he would still be balling so $24M wouldn't be a detriment.

here's the thing though, he signed it right after he tore the achilles. So from his perspective, it was more about security. That fear of it all being over and the face 48 mil was the offer these idiots came with, it was brilliant to take it. He's been hurt each year since. Imagine if he countered with a much smaller number and didn't get hurt, and balled out like 2013..he'd be pissed. Would we be in better position? Maybe. Maybe not. Kobe seems more inclined now to share the spotlight with another star, provided you're the right kind of star, but if he was still balling, he'd probs even want Bron and AD to take the backseat.

To someone who has more than $1 billion, $100K is like $100 to average people. Maybe less.
