here's the thing though, he signed it right after he tore the achilles. So from his perspective, it was more about security. That fear of it all being over and the face 48 mil was the offer these idiots came with, it was brilliant to take it. He's been hurt each year since. Imagine if he countered with a much smaller number and didn't get hurt, and balled out like 2013..he'd be pissed. Would we be in better position? Maybe. Maybe not. Kobe seems more inclined now to share the spotlight with another star, provided you're the right kind of star, but if he was still balling, he'd probs even want Bron and AD to take the backseat.

I completely agree. I have no problems with him getting that money. He deserved it. The Lakers offered it to him. He couldnt really say no.

WOUld be great if lets say he had a good year (around 20 pts, 5 rebs, 5 assists) this coming season. And the Lakers look to be a 40 win type of team. He should stay on for a $5M deal. He still has some juice in him. At that salary, FA's would be more enticed to play for the Lakers. I think players look now and go man, he's making $24M. Taking up too much of the cap.

100% agree. I've been saying for the longest I wish, mentally, mamba had the ability to be a kg, paul pierce, duncan type guy. but i guess they've never been in the super elite, goat talks as he has, so for the to fall back, is a shorter distance. I definitely feel he could elongate his career if he could find the healthy medium. Knowing him though, he'd probably just walk away altogether.

Or it could be that the Lakers don't and haven't had any proven players to entice anyone significant to want to come play the these past two summers. They've had money to spend just a flawed roster and ownership plan execution that had been poor at best. That has more to do with the current situation than Kobe's deal.

If he took a Duncan type discount (that was never offered) to 10-15 mil or so they still don't have money for two max guys ie (Bron/Melo) who we're in more adventagous situations roster and money wise nor the supplemental roster around them to be competitive in the west. Just would have resulted in Bummy P getting 10 mil instead of 5. And more stop gap 1 year deals.

Lakers plan is to hopefully have the young kids ball out this year, maybe make a run at KD (highly unlikely he signs). But in reality 2017 is where damage and the next step towards contention again really begins baring a lockout in the summer 2017 (when Russ, Rose, Blake etc.) can all be free agents and the Lakers well hopefully have a proven young core and space to add at least 2 max guys and supplemental pieces.

Sorry to hear about Austin Nichols fam :( :lol

Pastner has lost so many damn players, the writing is on the wall for him. Too many players have considered leaving or have left since he's been the HC.

Tarik Black
Antonio Barton
Kuran Iverson
Joe Jackson (was going to leave)
Jelan Kendrick
Nick King
Domnic MaGee
Austin Nichols
Pookie Powell
Dominic Woodson
Damien Wilson

All these guys transferred. 10 of his 17 signees transferred during his tenure :rollin . How do you lose nearly 60% of your players to other schhools? Then, he consistently brings in high ranked recruiting classes only to be an incompetent coach by letting the team underperform each season. FIRE HIM.

That's @ChampCruThik favorite coach, never seen someone go to bat for Pastner like Champ :lol

He definitely learned how to recruit from Cal, but damn he's had loaded teams in weak conferences and still hasn't made a deep tourney run. Time to cut ties at this point.

Cubes can just end this whole thing by posting a screenshot of his Outlook contacts entry with DJ's home address. Do it, Mark. DJ doesn't work for you now.

We've had better recruiting classes than Tennessee since 2010, but they've had 2 Sweet 16 appearances to our 0:{

Just getting back in from errands...

This Kanter news...

Do y'all really need him though? I like Adams/McGary better than Enes.

Agree. Kanter made sense when KD was out and OKC needed offense, but with KD in the line-up, they're much better off with a defensive minded C, IMO.

I don't think so.

I've been trying to illustrate to people that he's never been a net positive on the floor,

yet their blinded by his offensive capabilities.

However, what does this say to Kevin Durant that you'll let Enes Kanter walk when:

a) He's never had the opportunity to play with him.

b) You'd let Kanter walk in KD's final year under contract.

Admittedly, its nice to watch Kanter work on the block,

but is it really worth keeping your defense at the league's bottom?

That offer is really an attempt to have the Thunder tied up financially...

...if they did match, it means Dion Waiters is gone.

And that's a great thing.

It's kinda crazy to see how much management plays into how good a team is. Dirk and Duncan both took major pay cuts, but the Spurs front office is so much better at surrounding the team with talent and utilizing the draft that the two teams they play for will most likely be almost opposites this upcoming year.

I can't believe Thunder didn't want to pay Harden, but they are paying Kanter

Doc on meeting: "DeAndre left the house a couple of times. We were all free. It's funny how it was portrayed. It was a funny story."

lmaooo this cuban/broutard fiasco reminds me so much of this scene from the apprentice last season. they both starting talking crap about each other til one of them says 'prove it b, i know you can't' skip to like the 2 minute mark through about 5:51
