Depends, man. What kinda sound are you lookin to get? Are you talking about strictly distortion, or are you looking for effects? Also, do you want something that's like a multi-effect processor, or just looking for individual pedals?

I'm trying to play some The Who, Cream, and Metallica at the moment.  Just distortion pedals at the moment, I'm trying to keep it all simple and cheap and work up from there.

I'll tell ya, for almost all of those, get yourself a good Overdrive pedal, like an Ibanez tubescreamer. I'm actually selling a pedal right now that will definitely get you those old school, warm tube sounds for the Who and Cream. I'm not entirely certain if it'll give you enough gain to get that Metallica sound cause for one, I actually used it to tighten up the low end of my Mesa Dual Rec when I used that, and also, my cables at home and my practice amp are %@%@, so I can't really get a feel for how much distortion I can get out of it. For the super heavy, grab a Line 6 Uber Metal pedal. It has stupid amounts of gain, and it even has a built in noise gate.

Thanks Physicx.  I missed out on them in 07 or 08 and I couldn't stand that I missed them.  Besides their from Canada so you know your getting a show eventually.  Especially Edmonton.  You guys get everybody.

well, i just had a horrible day. i studied all last night and this morning for my lab final at 6pm: FAILED. i went to the stats review session for the final: CONFUSED ME EVEN MORE. it was nice in the morning, clear sky, sun and no wind so i wore basketball shorts and flip flops. walked outside after my lab final: SNOW. jesus $*@+$*# christ. oh, i took the bus home too. wonderful

Yeah, the only confirmed bands are The Faceless, All Shall Perish, Decapitated and Veil of Maya. I've also been told Animals As Leaders (if you haven't checked them out, do it! Tosin and Javier are insane guitar players), Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decaptiation and Oceano.
