STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

lol you dont have to squat to be successful and progressive. Squatting isn't the end all be all anymore. You can build a great body without it. Come on guys. We've advanced so far with different techniques and machines and angles to work, things that used to only work one way, now we have options. Squats are great, but there are certainly other viable alternatives now. I'm in no way hating on squats or challenging their benefit, but there's other movements like it that offer the same gains without unneeded pressure on the knee joints.

As far as iLLest,

you just gotta push through that disgust feeling when you look in the mirror during bulk. Besides you can still do some cardio without effecting gains and helping to limit the amount of fat put on. You wont be shredded while bulking unless you're using gear...but you can def limit how soft you look. And just keep telling yourself that it'll all be worth it come spring/summer. Winter is when we, as animals, are supposed to thicken our skin anyways ;).

I guess it would depend on the person, and how they feel about squatting. I can't comment on what any professional athlete is doing because I don't know. But I would bet a good amount that neither Rose or Shump have done squats with significant weight since their injury. I wouldn't if I were them and if I did I wouldn't go over 200 pounds. Those guys are worth millions, no reason to risk injury just so they can do 1 specific exercise, they can easily do other exercises that will be just as beneficial to their body.

It's really just personal preference, half the people I see at the gym don't even know they're lower body can be trained much less do squats :lol

Edit: Best believe i'll achieve every goal I set out for myself, with a bad knee and not do squats. I would love to do heavy squats, I envy guy's who are able to do them and hope the best success to them.

I had ACL surgery in January, actually almost a full year out now and I haven't gone over 155lbs during my rehab process. I can say though that squats, RDL's and leg presses were essential in gaining back the strength I had lost in my quad and hamstring. Before tearing my acl I really neglected my legs during workouts, they were already how I wanted them due to years of playing competitive soccer. However, I can vouch that those three leg exercises helped me greatly in my rehab and I think that although I'm not completely recovered yet, that my legs are stronger than they were before I tore my ACL.

Yeah I had surgery back in HS and got it replaced with a new one. I tore mine playing soccer also. My lower body has always been strong, esp with presses and hacks. I'm very happy with my progress in my legs without squats so i'm not changing now. Just stay away from leg extensions.

What do you guys put on your salads to add flavor? I completely got rid of the ranch, cheese, bacon, croutons and all the junk that really makes the salad worthless haha. Just added a splash of raspberry vinaigrette and some almonds and that was it. Wasn't very good, but it's gotta be done.

A splash of lemon juice or other citrus juices will be good as well. Some tomatoes, spinach, chicken, and rasberry vinagrette and you are grraavvyyy. You can add tuna, or hard boiled eggs as well. Some edamame, sheesh

Eh, salad dressing isn't bad at all. People just are hesitant because of the calories really. I don't usually eat ranch but simple vinaigrette is good.

Deadlift went very well today... 2nd time ever doing it... hit 275 x 5 no prob :smokin

Excited to see where this will end up... but will def proceed with caution as i go heavier

I'm setting a goal... and since this is NT it seems appropriate

When i hit 275lb on bench (Im at 235 now) I will finally unDS my 2011 concords

For salads, I add a couple tablespoons of hummus and a hard boiled egg (organic), and sometimes grape tomatoes.

I honestly couldnt believe it myself as i was doing it

I suppose doing

mon chest/tri
tue back/bi
wed shoulders
thur chest/tri
fri back/bi

splits for 5 months (since tearing my achilles) has paid off

I was the guy hobbling around the gym in a cast and a walking boot for months trying to get right

I'm just now working lower body into my routine

I was really out of shape when i began (193 then ... 175 now)

I promised myself after the injury (because i know it was because i was out of shape that i tore my achilles in the first place ) that i would never let myself go again EVER

I'm gonna play basketball again in may...1 year anniversary... and be a whole new person

Not that hard to release. He just made a huge weight jump compared to most people.

When I first started working out, my deadlift was only 115 so I could get form correct. Each time I went to do deadlifts, I just went up 10 lbs or stalled depending on how easy the set went.

Also, if his form was incorrect, he'd be hurt. Deadlift is not something you can have heavy weight with bad form and not hurt yourself..

Man i got kicked in my ankle during soccer last night and now its swollen....and its legs day. Hurts to bend it but i might be able to do squats still....if not im gonna be pissed

It used to be spread out but when i put a shoe on this morning it pushed it into a little alien bump
