lol

Hey guys, have a serious question and hoping someone can help out

So ive been gyming pretty often the past 2 months but mostly just lifting with a little cardio, now every time i do cardio i get winded quick but the more concerning thing is my heart rate ranges between 185-190. No matter what machine im on its 185-190

I am a 25 y/o male, 5'9" 165 lbs.

Today my arms got a little numb and my fingertips on left hand were numb after 30 mins on the eliptical. Is 185-190 dangerous?

Yes

Pretty sure thats not good lol

Talk to your doctor...

Not trying to scare you lol just be on the safe side...let em run an EKG or something

If I was you quell I'd get a check up as soon as possible to see where my blood pressure is at. And clean up my diet up too if I haven't already. Worst case you die or something.

Im going to touch on this but maybe @Durden7  can chime in, to get your max heart rate take the number 220-your age (25) this gives you 195 for a max heart rate. So 185-190 would be a number you hit during intense cardio or a heavy squat or something. Are you in good shape? Whats your diet like? How long have you been exercising? How fast are you running? I have experienced something similar when I push myself really hard during cardio towards the end but never had it happen for a long period of time.

Staying hydrated would be one thing that might help or be the causing factor. Make sure your getting enough liquids in.

If your getting winded quick then that might be a sign your trying to push to hard, remember its a marathon not a sprint, getting in good cardio shape takes time. Start off with run/walk variations and build from there.

Gotta find another gym. Changed jobs last spring and moved in the summer way across town. There's no gyms in walking distance to my house that I know of and it's not always easy to train where I work. Kinda need an escape. I did this in my last place, worked at BSC but had a Golds Gym in walking distance so I'd just go there on weekends or evenings that I didn't have any clients. Have a a whole different setup now and my workouts are definitely suffering.

Doesn't help that we have extended blackout hours now at my gym. Trainers can't workout in the evenings until 8pm and now we can't workout on Saturday morning. We're supposed to set an example to our clients and inspire them how are we gonna do that when they make it hard to actually train?

If I remember correctly, you said you worked at the Central Sq BSC?

Going to trader joe's for the first time ever today :wow:
Bro good luck. Bet you were nervous - how'd it go?

Yo TJ's isn't even that expensive. I feel like my bills there always come out to a lot less than I expected. Exact opposite for WFM.

DA PAIN WAS REAL

It's 220-AGE-Resting Heart Rate x intensity (say 70%) + Resting Heart Rate = Max heart Rate.

So for quell we would need his resting heart rate and to know how hard (approx.) he's training. Let's assume 100 is the resting rate and 70 percent intensity is the goal. The heart rate would be around 166. Pretty high. But 190 is way up there. It's possible the readings your getting aren't accurate. But I would get checked asap.

No max heart rate is just 220-age.  You used the formula to find your target heart rate for a specific intensity, like 70% as you used.

And Quell, do you know if you have high BP? I would go see your dr or a cardiac specialist

dunno about stupid but yeah, i can't see the point of aggravating a dislocation unless it's a professional athlete in an important competition. was there a trainer or coach endorsing that decision? doesn't seem like a good idea.

You right. Whatever the case, an assessment that includes resting heart rate just provides a better picture about the person.

I used to have a high heart rate when I used to dump salt on all my food and ate McDonalds every week. Something like 140. Now I'm at like 85 resting.

That's what makes it silly to me though. She ain't no athlete, prolly works at whole foods.
