It's cruel because those dogs were helpless. It would be different if they were full sized dogs who could defend themselves or save themselves. It's horrible to think someone would do this and find enjoyment out of it. And comparing hunting for sport to this is not even close. At least those animals have a chance.

We have huge problem with stray/feral dogs and dogs at your local human society. I don't see anyone here crying for those dogs.
Some of your taking this in the wrong direction. Its not about food to Americans, dogs are pets but we try to keep dog population under control. What do you think the breeder does with the rest of the litter that are not fit to carry the breed or not adopted by anyone, they kill them. Breeders try to breed the best of the best and the rest get left in the dust.
Lets not forget about backyard breeders and problem they bring.

Ok all i'm trying to do is get an argument as to why animals have rights, which animals have rights, and what rights animals have. I'm not saying that people SHOULD do this, nor am I saying I want people to stop caring about dogs. Im just interested in a logical, ideally deductive, explanation as to why they should be treated better than others.

Around 4,000 dogs were trained and served in the vietnam war. The military estimates that they saved over 10,000 lives. There were so effective the viet cong offered a 20,000 dollar reward for the capture of a dog, twice the amount they would get for capturing a soldier. Yet 95% of those dogs were left behind either put to sleep or discarded as "military surplus". Countless stories of these dogs who were attached to ONE soldier their entire life pulling their wounded friend out of battle and taking bullet after bullet but not letting go or running away until the soldier was safe.

lol ok so when you say an argument is unsound, it means either my premises arent true or my progression from premise to conclusion is incorrect. given that my logic is fine, it has to be that you dont think my premises are true. i was talking about the process of killing bugs intentionally in the same way that this persons killing dogs intentionally. the fact that dogs are socially useful for us in terms of hunting or that they bring entertainment to some people isnt reason so as to why they should be treated humanely. we can still treat them like crap and they will still be useful to us because theyre stupid and animals and have no ability to reason. the fact that they have no real ability to reason is why i think they are so far inferior to us as to justify the torture and killing of them. my argument is as follows:Originally Posted by south sole

Just got out of classes, I’ll add my two cents, for the record I fully agree with Theta. Dogs aren’t people some of you need to accept that fact. Humans don’t buy humans from stores and keep them as pets. I don’t care how awesome they are I won’t acknowledge their existence until the day humans are able to communicate with them on an intellectual level. I’m not trying to justify her actions, what she did was wrong. Should she be fined? Maybe, should she be jailed? No, since dogs aren’t entitled to anything in this country or in her country for that matter. Until dogs have rights you people should stop crying over how many of them die. And again to those comparing this to dogs in a humane society, not even close. Those dogs HAVE a chance, these dogs were tossed to death for pure "enjoyment". This girl is a straight up window licker and should be in a padded room. Where are the adults? When you obviously have actions like this, I'm sure there are/were signs that would lead to something digusting like this.

2. which adult you know just goes around killing bugs intentionally? We do %+!% like that as kids, or if we go fishing as bait. If you can't recognize that dogs/cats/hamsters/ whatever house pets are higher up in the reasoning chain than some insects your missing the whole issue here. Your grouping every living thing into the same category: as alive...but you really fail to see the point that there is a defined relationship/friendship that humans have had with domesticated pets. It's something more intricate than just saying everything has a right to live...everything does but their is a hierarchy.
Ain't nobody even say that dogs are equal to humans so who your argueing on that point with all your premises
