Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I think referring to those 3 projects as The Trilogy is just the easiest way to reference all 3 projects. I almost kind of view the actual "Trilogy" release as an obvious retail money grab. There is a consensus out there that believes all 3 projects are classic. There's also another one that holds HOB as the highlight or strongest of all three projects.

I can see both angles...and the idea that someone could come out of nowhere and debut 3 classics in one year just sounds absurd. But damnit...that's what happened. I'm even inclined to say that he leveled up each time. My personal favorite of the 3 is actually EOS.

HOB gets it slightly due to it being the first project. It surprised people. It's debatable, but Thursday is better for me.

God testing me today, man.

HOS, Thursday, and EOS are 3 of the greatest albums i've ever heard. Bonafide classics, all three of them.

I don't think, in my time that i've heard and witnessed such a flawless, symmetrical execution of an aesthetic that bled into the music the way Weeknd did it with those 3 projects. Each project was like a trip into that world.

I know they fire but damn. Best albums you've ever heard :lol sheesh. Maybe when I'm high lol

TITR is a masterpiece... but cats skip Til Dawn.

I already see how you all trying to play it. Not falling for it. Nope. Nah. I'll see you dudes on Monday when they discuss MBDTF vs Graduation.

Don't go bruh, I still have to talk to you about KOTF
titr is really a good song tho.

MBDTF >>> Graduation

I think Graduation is number 2 on my list for Kanye albums. Some of those beats on College Dropout aged like white people. Late Registration still sounds good but you could EASILY cut a few songs.

If I skip more than two songs, it's not a classic for me. I skip three or four songs on The Doc. It's a great ****** album though. I'm not mad when people call The Doc a classic. Advocate, **** no.

I wish more rappers would stick to 10-13 tracks. At the same time I kind of miss the double disc albums. Always wild excitement for those. You getting so much music. Those were the days.

Well I more than 2 songs on BP 1 as do many people I know is that not a classic either? And DA is a classic he bodied every track

I agree, I think Blueprint is a great album but I skip three or four songs on that album. Not a classic for me but I'm not mad when people call it a classic. Jay doesn't have a single album that I don't skip at least three songs on. Don't tell me an album is a classic but you skip four or five songs on it. That's crazy. Classic is perfection or damn near perfection.

So Jay has 0 classics?

Internet has changed the Rap/Hip Hop world for the worst if were talking about classic albums. The only reason why The Weekend is considered to have classics. Is because hes executed like rappers should. He puts out albums. Then promote it by just shooting videos. He doesnt put out 1-3 mixtapes a year before the album. That part of the game has killed possible classic albums.

Example=Wayne shouldve put some of his C3 throwaways.Dedication mixtape songs on C3 and shot videos for most of the album. While promoting it for 2 years atleast. Some of the throwaway songs are album material. He shouldve released 1 mixtape with the average songs on there.Internet has most of these cats giving away to much material before an actual album release.

Thats why we dont get classics as much as we use to.90,s era rappers had time to record there best material. Not like now.To where they just record alot of songs. Then release some of there best songs on a mixtape.Rappers need to start doing what R&B cats are doing.Release an album every 2-3 years. With there best work.Jay,Nas,Em,Dre still do it.Fans have gotten spoiled to where they think they should receive songs every couple of months. Its like the fast food concept.

Material has to be pumped out so fast now. That the majority of it isnt good.Unless if your fan that just likes to hear a certain type sound 24/7 with no change up in style. This is the big reason why we dont get classic albums at the rate we did before 2007.Kendrick,Jay,Nas,Outkast,UGK,Big,Pac,Scarface,Pun wouldnt be who they are.If they released 2-4 albums/mixtapes a year. There sound/formula would be used up and dry.

In this climate of the Rap Game. Its easy for these artist to do the microwave hustle.Make 100 songs on Trap Beats that sound alike. Then flood the internet. You decrease your quality/Brand in the long term by doing that.Dont get me wrong.People still love Gucci. But theres alot of microwave rappers from when he started that you've forgotten about.

Had to go back and check, I was wrong. I skip two on RD, two on Vol 1 and one on Vol 2. I've never considered Vol 1 or 2 a classic though. Vol 1 is my favorite Jay album and Vol 2 is number 2 for me.
