Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Too Short said Pimp didn’t wanna do a song with ANYBODY that Pac wasn’t ****ing with and he was dead *** serious and to top it off _'s said Pimp never even met Pac, that’s how much Pac meant _'s in the South tho. Bruh is God

Furthermore, ****** in the South (I know Texas specifically) wasn't bumping ****** that Pac didn't **** with either. I just got my mans to listen to Jay like 3 years ago. I asked him how he never listened to the God MC, & you already know what his reasoning was.

I am referencing the song "Can I get a What...", which wasn't produced by Pharrell and Timbo. Think this was around '98 (Senior Year of HS for me )

And FYI Virginia is not considered the SOUTH - DMV y'all way off the SOUTHERN map, b.

Central VA country as a mf bruh, we def consider this part the south

DMV is Nova and above. We don't really claim that **** out here like that.

We had the discussion before. Virginia is like most states. Tidewater and northern Virginia aren't very southern, because of the amount of transplants, colleges and military. The rest is. But in general people in Georgia, South Carolina and Louisiana don't consider Virginia the south, even though it was the heart of the confederacy.

In Pennsylvania, everything between Philly and Pittsburgh is the south.

Same with New York. Everything from Westchester County to Buffalo is the south to me. Hell a lot of people from the city think Yonkers, Shaolin and Mount Vernon are country.

Most of the areas are country and backwoods and vote Republican. They even talk different.

New Jersey is less like that, because one part of the state is a suburb of New York and the other Philly.

The south isn't just a physical place to me. It's a little deeper than that. It's geography and also a mentality.

So Jay-Z wasn't supposed to do a song with Juvenile or UGK?

Up top rappers weren't supposed to work with down south rappers?

And it wasn't beneficial at all to the down south rapper?

Do some of you even think before you type?

They're going to say reference. (Tupac, Biggie, Snoop, Nas, B.G..)

But how we ignore him stealing the 'bounce' southern style of music to crossover...

How did Jay crossover, to who? So the South started messing with Jay-Z, because of Big Pimpin?

If anything UGK were the ones who crossed over.

I was watching a bit of Stars YouTube stream this morning.

Charlemagne’s lawyers on his head. Sent him a notice got the vid taken off YouTube.

Tell me why while Star is in mid stream taking calls and discussing the issue it gets yanked off YouTube :rofl:

I'm from Charleston SC (currently in Savannah) and I can say that Vol 2 is what definitely made him hot down here. After listening to that, I circled back and picked up RD and Vol 1.

This really how I feel. It's easy to say it's not the south, then you hit 95 (going north at that) and see that big *** confederate flag.

**** there's a business like 2 minutes from my crib, all their pickup trucks got confederate flags on em

I saw that big confederate flag on 95 when I had to drive my girl back home to VA.

There's still a lot of small towns here in GA where you don't want to be caught DWB after dark.

And to add one more point. At the end of the day we're black. Some of you dudes reducing this **** to some bloods and crips stuff. Where one black person can't and shouldn't work with another black person because of where they're from is corny as hell.

I never thought, how dare Ice Cube(one of my favorites at the time) work one of my favorite producers. It produced a classic album.

****s corny b, some of you need to get out of that mentality. Nobody from the north hates you. You dudes need to spend that energy concentrating on the real enemy who wants to divide and conquer us.

No surprise there.

Doubt it’ll happen, but if we even get a response from him, it won’t be until after his legal team has all of this sewn up so that it doesn’t become an issue down the line.

What's funny is I was running through that exact youtube page reliving those classic radio moments, and completely forgot that this was a thing.

The story of Joe putting the beats on Pap and then Pap wanting to talk after is

****** said Joe washed him, then they spoke like men.:smh:

Cassidy sounded wild erratic repeating the same **** over and over to avoid questions.

It was pure comedy. Radio used to be comedy gold back then. Now people tweet. It ain't the same.

Pap sounded like superman, he fought ten people by himself. Then was all diplomatic at the end.

Pap is the dude who wants to defend his girl, but didn't really want to fight, but doesn't want to look bad to her.

I always thought Cassidy sounded scared and he didn't want any problems.

Pap is suuuper protective over Remy :lol I remember he tried to act like he wasn't trippin when Remy was trying to go to Miami
with Joe to record music lol.

He see how she lookin now.

It’s like she went in one way and came out another. She def wasn’t lookin like that in them lean back days.

The proper terminology for country people is 'BAMA', not 'southerners'.

Bro, I get what you saying...

The SOUTH is a form of style, culture, food, lifestyle, slang, etc.

Those country VA and NYC people, speak with a northern accent, cook/eat northern food, follows northern traditions, dress like northerners, etc.

*Edit* Confederate flags are SOMETIMES associated as a racist southern symbol, which still from this day they're called "RED NECKS". I think that's a whole different convo.

Nobody is saying that they shouldn't have worked with them.

What I'm saying is they tried copying/adapting/referencing/cross-over to the southern style back in 95-98, after all the shaming/ignoring/etc of the southern flavor in interviews, magazines, award shows, etc.

The south crossed over? Are we excluding the great OUTKAST; the source awards in '95. NYC hip hop were slowly trying to slide their way with southern sound in during 97-98 ish.

How is a music discussion turning into a FULL sociology backfire? :lol

If anybody looking too deep into this, it's perhaps you bro. :lol

The Recession is the best album of 08

Honorable Mentions

Scarface - Emeritus
Killer Mike - Pledge 2
Plies - Definition of Real
NaS - Untitled
G Unit - Terminate On Sight

Come on man get that garbage TOS off that list. Easily the worst G-Unit release ever. When the best song is “Kitty Kat”, you have to re-evaluate your label

Game always in 50 ear everytime they’re spotted together

Probably tryna re-create 2005

Musically, 50 needs to re-create 2005 more than Game

So if you're from the south and rapping, aren't you taking northern style? And southern artist weren't working with northern artist?

This is a redundant conversation, and you don't see it. Yet, you don't think it's that deep. Some of you act like you were at the Source Awards the way you reference it. Whitney Houston got booed at the Soul Train awards once upon a time...ok, and. The fans wanted someone else to win.

Who directed this?

Man I think we're talking about different pockets of the same people. My dad makes fun of northern accents.

**** I was just at a cookout this weekend. Straight BBQ, fried chicken and chitlins. Throwing grease in the woods and all that. Old heads were playing old country music at first. Moonshine (real, not that store bought stuff) gummy bears were on point
