If you needed further proof that the Online Pass was a **!$@# idea which inconveniences all paying customers, then here's a nice little slice of evidence. Day-one DiRT 3 buyers cannot play the hot looking racing game because they can't redeem their Pass codes.

The problem stems from the fact that Sony has not yet reinstated the PlayStation Store. Without it, there is no other way to redeem codes, so nobody can get online in spite of the PlayStation Network running fine. This is all thanks to the war on used games, where players now need to prove they didn't buy a secondhand game or otherwise pay $10 for a fresh code.

Our own Dale North discovered the issue himself as he was preparing our upcoming review of the title. Thankfully, they sent him the Xbox 360 version too, so we can test the online.

Things like this really speak of how inconvenient games have become for paying customers in recent years. Between endless patches, DRM, and an increasing reliance on using codes for everything, it's little wonder why people are more willing to wait a month and buy a game for cheap, rather than support publishers. Publishers have done little to indicate they deserve support.

@ Sony for not restoring the PS Store yet.

@ EA and their stupid pay system to play online because they hate used game sales.

Looks like I won't be buying DIRT 3 for awhile now.

Currently going back & finishing some SP games..I picked up Skate 3 a few weeks ago for cheap so I'll probably start that soon..Thinking about copping Assassin's Creed II since it's  <$15.
E3 2011: Batman: Arkham City -- Could Robin Make an Appearance?

Potential evidence that the Boy Wonder is about to enter the Dark Knight's world.

May 25, 2011
E3 2011
For a Batman fan, one of the best things about 2009's Arkham Asylum was the copious amount of Easter Eggs. Even rarely used characters like nut job Maxie Zeus got a nod. With a game world five times the size of the Asylum, Batman: Arkham City looks like it could be packed with considerably more hidden gems. One of the more interesting Easter Eggs we've seen hints at the emergence of Robin.

In the comic books, Bruce Wayne takes a night off to go to the circus, only to witness the shocking "accident" that ends the Flying Graysons. The lone survivor is the Graysons' acrobatic son. Wayne takes him in as his ward, eventually reveals his secret cave, and soon enough the two become the famed Dynamic Duo.

During a demo for Batman: Arkham City, we caught sight of a poster. It advertised the Flying Graysons, with the words "cancelled" stamped across it. The tragedy has already happened. But how long ago? It seems likely that young **** Grayson is now under the care of Bruce Wayne, but it's uncertain if he's already assumed the role of Robin.

You may have caught this poster quickly passing by in the most recent Batman: Arkham City Trailer. Now we have a clear view of the poster and a number of evasive answers from Game Manager Dax Ginn, who agreed that a "tragedy" did happen to the poor Graysons and their show has "most definitely been cancelled."

This could mean **** Grayson or Robin might show in Batman: Arkham City or it could be a tease for a third Batman game, one that features the Dynamic Duo. We probably won't have that answer for some time. After all, Batman: Arkham City isn't even out yet. Expect it in October, when we'll at least know if **** Grayson or his alter ego will make an appearance in 2011.

E3 looks very promising..

Socom 4 players: Double XP
SOCOM 4 Double XP Is Now Live
Zipper Interactive has announced double XP (experience points) for all multiplayer game modes in SOCOM 4.

The announcement was made on the official website. The company did not state how long the it will go for but it's obviously only for a limited time.

Chris Roper, Community Specialist said:
"In an effort to help bring everyone up to speed we're doubling any and all XP earned during competitive multiplayer games for the near future. You don't have to do anything other than complete a game to reap the benefits of our limited-time "Double XP" bonus, so what are you waiting for? We'll see you online!"

Sony tweeted to confirm that double XP for SOCOM 4 is now live.

As stated:
"Protip: Double XP live now in SOCOM 4! @Zipper"

So it's now the best time for SOCOM fans to play the game after M.I.A for nearly a month due to the PSN being offline.

Edit: R* also offering extra XP

Update: The first event in Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition has begun. Join us on the multiplayer events page and see below for details.

The PlayStation Network is officially back online, and with that comes the triumphant return of Rockstar Games Social Club Multplayer Events for our PS3 community.

It's time for two consecutive afternoons of multiplayer on PSN with Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition today May 25th from 4-7PM Eastern and Red Dead Redemption & Undead Nightmare with Triple XP tomorrow May 26th from 4-7PM Eastern. (Note that Triple XP will also be active for Xbox LIVE during this time.)

The events were originally scheduled for earlier in the month, but moved after the unfortunate PSN downtime. Ye PSN players fiending for action better be ready. Plenty of time to practice your aiming, shooting, riding and racing in single player... and you're prepped to take everyone else to school in multiplayer, right? Time to dominate the competition.

Get on over to the multiplayer events page during both sessions for a live chat, video stream and your chance to win one of several prizes, detailed below. And if you play on PC, join us for the next event in our calendar on Friday June 10th when we'll be taking each other on in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City on Games for Windows Live.

Mortal Kombat simply lifted their online pass requirement for the time being. I don't see why DiRT3 can't do the same.

Even though Square Enix has yet to iron out all the kinks in Final Fantasy XIV, it plans to announce a third MMO during its current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2012). According to CEO Yoichi Wada, the title will co-exist with the company's two existing MMOs, the aforementioned FFXIV and still-running Final Fantasy XI.

In Wada's recent investors presentation (translated by Andriasang), the CEO doesn't indicate when the company plans to launch the new title, but does say that the game should be announced before the end of the fiscal year -- so by next April. For now, Square Enix is focused on shaping up the troubled FFXIV in hopes of an eventual release on PS3.

I got the SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition bundle (complete PlayStation Move + Sharpshooter set; game practically comes out as free
pimp.gif
). Didn't really care for the game that much. But SOCOM 4 is an ok game if you plan to pick it up.

Using the Sharpshooter definitely gives you a more immersive feel of the game. It works quite well with SOCOM 4 (button layout, pump-action reload, and nudge-to-melee kill an opponent
pimp.gif
) Build quality of the peripheral is ok; on par with the official PlayStation[emoji]8482[/emoji] peripherals. Aiming is faster than the DualShock 3 controller, no doubt, BUT turning could be a little frustrating at first (no Right Analog Stick --you have to point the Sharpshooter at the edge of the screen to turn to your desired direction.). Good luck playing online multiplayer with this (unless you're the tactical type that doesn't play run-and-gun like most do). On top of that, you get a considerable amount of fatigue when using this after a while, since you turn and shoot with the gun (even real soldiers don't point their guns all the time while moving, just saying).

For now, I prefer using the Sharpshooter for campaign missions, not online multiplayer. It's hard to keep up with my crappy internet connection and latency issues as it is.
laugh.gif

If they somehow integrate a built-in PSP-style Right Analog stick at the rear end of the pistol grip to take care of turning, it would've been perfect. Guess we'll have to see in future revisions of this peripheral.

Same. I just finished the campaign today. It's a fun game now that online multiplayer is available . I played online with my sharpshooter yesterday after
pimp.gif
and I was surprisingly getting off.( my k/d is like 1.1 or something low) It takes awhile to get used to the sharpshooter but after you get everything down it gets intense & if my move is dead I will just play with the controller and the game is still fun to me. The only thing I hate about online is I can't party up with my friends before a match easily like cod.
Current rotation i got: Socom 4, nba 2k11, nfs hot pursuit, fight night champion, some portal 2(not a lot; head starts to hurt after awhile)

^ Yup, I'm confused with their matchmaking as well. Can't join up with another NTer who plays SOCOM 4. I just hop in for a quick game. And it's kinda annoying to wait 5 seconds to re-spawn everytime (I die a lot in this game, apparently.
laugh.gif
).

I'm terrible at SOCOM 4 online multiplayer.
sick.gif
Twice as bad compared to Black Ops (I'm actually decent now; connection's a bit more stable
laugh.gif
).  Third-person shooters are not my cup of tea, unfortunately. I suck at aiming. I need more practice.
