\\ Post Your Car vol. Been a minute //

The lack of big body affordable coupes is sickening these days. The S Class Benz Coupe is getting long in the tooth and the BMW 8-Series isn't exactly a looker. I've been car shopping for a year and I don't know what to do at this point. I might just pay cash for a 2024 Camry and accept the wash.

I still don’t know what MB was thinking stopping the S Class Benz Coupe. Could have just made it minimal builds.

zmaqbool zmaqbool I remember you were having issues with your car overheating, even after it was supposedly repaired, it happened again. What ended up being the cause?

Thanks for asking, brother. Yes, it was supposedly repaired & it started to overheat on the expwy while I was driving it back home(May of last year)...I then took it back(got reimbursed for the tow this time) and it wasn't the thermostat as they first thought it turned out to be a bad water pump.

My guy only charged the cost of the part & not the repair which along with the 2nd tow reimbursement was nice. So with the OEM Mopar t-stat out & replaced with the aftermarket Motorad one + new OEM Mopar water pump the car was running as cool as a cucumber 🥒...until this past July that is.

After a fun little road trip to the edge of Long Island it started to overheat AGAIN for the 3rd time . I'm not a mechanic or that knowledgeable with car repairs but I've begun learning my Challenger & it's finicky engine. This time I knew right off the bat it had to be the aftermarket t-stat and not the water pump again.

My dad helped me swap it back to an OEM t-stat and it's been running cool as a 🥒 again, hopefully for good this time, lol. I drove it pretty hard & stomped on it after that couple of times and it hasn't bounced above 204 degrees so seems to be holding up well.

I’m experiencing an issue where my car starts to run hot when idling. I don’t think it’s the thermostat or water pump since everything else (when driving) is fine. It could be something like the fan or coolant, but I’m not sure. Like you, I’m not a mechanic, so I’ll need to take it in for a proper diagnosis.

What car is it? Sometimes it's a slow fan or even something as small as a worn out rubber gasket on a radiator or coolant reservoir cap. Is the coolant reservoir at the proper level? If it's below the normal level that may be it as well. When was the last time you topped it off? Could also be some dirt or debris clogged in the radiator that's preventing the flow of coolant.

I wanted CW on my FK8 but I got it when it first dropped and back then you took what you got. I love the interior of the FL5. It's probably my favorite thing about the car. Its just perfect.

Thoughts on the current Si? All youtube reviews I've seen have been positive.

Considering picking one up as my current car is soon approaching its end. Runs well, but any time there could be a major repair.

First choice is actually Integra Type S or FL5, but I don't think I can justify the price tag. Si would be a nice compromise for a sporty car that can still fit car seats lol.

So I was actually going to go with the Si instead as I think the sedan looks better than the hatchback. For the price tag, right at $30k, there isn't a better option from any other brand. It's got good power, a 6spd manual, and great looks inside and out. I've owned Civics my whole adult life and I have to say the 11th gen interior is easily the nicest.

My brother had 24 Si in red earlier this year, but sold it back in April to get a Morizo GR Corolla. I drove it and loved everything about it. Has a great sounding factory exhaust note.

Edit: Just realized we don't own any of those cars in that pic anymore. Si replaced by a 4Runner Pro, Tacoma replaced by the CTR, 4Runner SR5 replaced by a 4Runner TRD Off Road.

Its underpowered, the new Hybrid Civic is faster actually. Its fun to drive these “slow” cars fast though, you can atleast row through a few gears before hitting the next light or be at felony speeds lol. Also its high revving, and the shifters feel real good on em. Only knock besides power is it does feel a little cheap inside. Id look into a GTI as well.

Honda :pimp: My same logic at $20K when I purchased the 8th gen in 07

To think people considered that car underpowered because you couldn't slap on a tune and make 250

Lost interest in the 9th and 10th but I like the current gen for the most part

Hot while idling but not when driving sounds like a radiator fan

I tend to drive my vehicles until they’re worn out. Right now, I'm driving a 2012 TL with 220,000 miles. I checked the coolant reservoir this morning, and it was below the minimum, so I added some. However, when I drove out on a slight decline, the car started to overheat. But when I got home and parked on a slight incline with the engine running, the temperature stayed steady. Not sure what’s going on.

I mean, the reason you slap a tune is because its underpowered no? Lol I had an FG2.

Is the fan kicking on?

Could be air in the system if the coolant level fluctuates (or a leak). I would park on the incline and try to burp it. Takes longer than you think sometimes

Watch yours temps and if coolant level drops it means air is coming out. Add more coolant and proceed til it stops bubbling and doesn't drop

It's funny you mentioned the new hybrid, because I did consider it solely because of the powerplant. Ultimately, though, you'd still be driving an automatic plain trim Civic. The Si is offered in manual only and would be the better driver's car overall. You'd also be able to mod the Si for more power whereas you can't with the hybrid.

GTI is a good choice too. I wouldn't buy one personally, but they do look and drive pretty good.

Yeah, I just mean for that era those cars had plenty of power. So many folks drawn to the easy hp turbo cars that were junk in most other ways

And w all know what happens when you actually start to modify. K is king to this day

FA5 here from like 07-21. Sort of regret selling it at times

Yeah Si would def be the more fun car, no questions. I was referring specifically to the power only. Might as well get a CTR if youre gonna plan to mod an Si heavily. Its gonna take a chunk of change to give it real power gains.

So park it, let it run for a while, and then check the reservoir to see if the coolant level has changed?
