Pastor Creflow Dollar is asking for 60 million to purchase new G6 to spread the gospel across the gl

Not to mention the stories in the Bible that are direct copies of stories recorded in the writings of other cultures.

true but the teachings in itself, many of the passages have contradictions do they not? So a book with several contradictions, being studied by people who contradict themselves somehow equates to a universal truth?

How is that even possible

many that predate the earliest known versions of the bible that are still etched in the tombs and walls of many places in africa.... and they still are there.

Not to mention the stories in the Bible that are direct copies of stories recorded in the writings of other cultures.

This is very true. Another thing worth mentioning is that those stories predate the creation of the bible.

and how can people do the prayer of contrition...

Lord please forgive me, for the wrongs I have done, for i know not i have sinned.

How is this not a outright contradiction and just a bold face lie? So to go to god and say iuno sorry i lied/stole/cheated on my spouse etc... but i only did it because i didnt know it was wrong and i wont do it again. When 1. If you been following the word, hell even if you havent you knew good and damk well what you was doing was wrong, so you basically lying contradicting yourself there. 2. Then basically say im not going to do it again, when you got plans to do the very same thing right after you finish praying etc.. attending church...

Ala i know gambling etc whatever is wrong i aint gonna do it anymore.... yet you got plans stop stop at the gas station and play mega millions right after sunday service. But yet you just told god you did it cause you didnt know it was wrong and your not gonna do it anymore.

And somehow this is suppose be admired, be respected, seen a righteous, having integrity?

Same way they have rehearsed and repeated prayers to the Virgin Mary yet in the bible it is written you should not bow down to any other figure than he

and doesnt the bible say in matthews that you are not to pray for personal agendas, and things that benefit yourself... yet ppl pray god send them a job, heal them in some form of way, send them a good man, hell hit the lottery, fall into some unwarranted money, car get fixed etc... all kinda things that would fall under personal agendas.

But somehow this isnt contradictions, its honest and virtue

If the founders of Scientology can fund whatever they want and be tax free, then I have no problem with Brother Dollar getting his.

The entire premise is built on convincing people that they are sick and then selling them the cure.

As far as business models go, that's impressive, but the foundation was laid by people who thought that shooting stars were actually angels dancing, thought that the punishment for rape was to pay the father and marry the victim, and thought that burning part of their crops was necessary in order to please the god concept, not to mention thinking that the illnesses could be cited through certain concoctions that amount to nothing more than witches brews.

I have a problem with both. Wish more people would stand on both sides of an inconsistency instead of excusing one because they have no problem with another.

As if Scientology is more fantastical than any other religion.

For some reason Greek mythology are children stories but they actually share many stories as the bible. Go figure

"Man, those people were crazy with what they believed. :lol "

It's only crazy if you're looking from the outsize of both religions. It makes complete sense for them to scoff at each other if they truly believe what they're practicing.

What's even more funny is people like you guys who laugh at them laughing at each other as if you have the answers and know some supreme mathematics that can prove either of them 100% wrong. And I mean wrong in every possible way, dispelling any possible esoterics/metaphors/coded language/poorly translated concepts that are part of these religions.

Neither can either be proven nor disproven.

So who gets to laugh now?

Don't think of myself as an atheist, really atheism is as fake as theism to me-- there can't be an anti for what isn't, the concept for atheism creates a foundation for an argument where there's no evidence to support a real one. Even in a reality where of all the religions, the only God that existed was that of the Christians and I was 1000% sure he existed , I still would not follow him and would rather be cast away with all the other people he didn't find fit with his plans, because to me (going to sound like religious bashing and I really don't want to offend anyone but...) sounds like to me he is a very jealous, petulant, hateful, and terrible person that I rather not care for , well if that's the way this mystical character is to be personified /end random midday lunch rant.Sorry about pretending to sound sincere... I just have a problem with religion.

It's not our job to "disprove" religion.  The burden of proof is on the person making the initial, positive claim.

That's like me saying "I believe you're a leprechaun, but it's not up to me to prove it.  It's up to you to DISPROVE that you're a leprechaun."

Also, if God is omniscient and omnipotent, why would he rely on text to validate himself (let alone text written in METAPHOR)?  Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I never claimed to have any of the answers, I just don't see any compelling evidence that a higher power exists.

I'm comfortable with admitting I don't have the answers.  That's what separates me from religious people.

at least scientologists formulated and came to their beliefs on their own, for as crazy as many may think their belief system is, they came up with it themselves.... which is far more respectable..... then being stripped, herding and shackled like livestock, jammed and crammed into the lower cellars of a boat, raped, endure beatings, being demoralized, degraded, and dehumanized, enslaved, and conditioned and trained to follow a certain belief system.

Calm down, tough guy.

I laugh at how one set of people with an unproven set of beliefs can laugh at another group of people who have an unproven set of beliefs.

"Well don't you have a set of unproven beliefs?"

No, I don't.

I believe in what has been proven, and for what hasn't been proven, I believe that I don't know the answer.

That was adorable, though. Please go on.

I believe in what I believe is true. I carry my own truths, which I haven't even voiced in this thread.

But.. "tough guy"? I didn't mean to come off as intimidating. Wise men know that we don't really know much, so to laugh at one's beliefs without being grounded in your own is foolish. What do you consider facts?

The world was once flat and the Earth sat at the center of the universe.

The world was never flat. It was just a false belief that a lot of people held.

That's not really the best example to use in defense of religion.

I'm only speaking for myself, but I repeat: I scoff at those who scoff at those who have different beliefs than their own.

Please chew on and digest that before replying.

I don't scoff at those who believe certain things that have yet to be disproved. If it hasn't been disproved, I have no right to scoff.

I scoff at those who believe in a certain set of things that haven't been proven AND... who ALSO... scoff at others who believe in a different set of unprovens, a set different than their own.
The world was once flat and the Earth sat at the center of the universe.
Say we're back to a time thousands of years before daVinci.

You see me mocking people, and you think it's because they believe the earth is round.

I'm not laughing at that.

I scoff at people who believe the earth is round while they also scoff at people who believe the Sun is at the center of the universe. Neither has been proven, so it's amusing to me that the believers in one unproven set of beliefs would mock the believers of a different set of beliefs.
