The whole thing is just totally absurd to me now...Nike wrote the book on limited release sneakers to drive up hype, I get it...But when did the hype chasers decide that owning the sneakers wasn’t good enough, now they needed to flaunt how much they paid on the aftermarket? The sneaker world has mutated into this joyless thing that’s sole focus is on the dollar value...Love for sneakers is, and always was, a very niche thing anyway...Now with this added focus it’s just flat out weird ...
The Rolex comparison mentioned earlier is probably as close as you can get to putting this whole thing in relation to other consumer products...But with time pieces at least you can kind of own everything up to having a quality made product that could be something to hand off to future generations...A heirloom as it were...
Does sneakers from massive sportswear companies in particular, offer that same level of product? Hell no they don’t! Clumps of rubber and glue pieced together in a sweat shop halfway around the world? Produced with the sole intention to be worn out, and subsequently replaced?...I just don't get it anymore...
