"OTHER BRAND" - RUNNING shoe thread - asics, saucony, new balance, hoka one one, adidas, reebok, brooks, altra, skechers, etc...

The MS Sky has potential. It just needs a good cw. I’m hoping they launch more than four cws this time. C’Mon Bruce Lee’s!

I swear tho I can’t keep track of these weird ASICS names

No use waiting for the Edge for me since my cadence generally stays consistent regardless of speed.

Metaspeed Skies launch on ASICS.com on 4/8/21. I’m crossing my fingers for them to be valid for the med discount.

Please forgive my complete lack of knowledge about running shoes. Longtime NT member but just now deciding to try to run and get this dad bod under control so I’m not an embarrassment to my children on vacation.

I had decided I wanted a more minimalist type shoe, or at least I had, but browsing through here it seems like none of you are mentioning or posting about that type of runner. Are those barefoot running shoes by Vibram just purely a terrible idea? I don’t want a 2 inch midsole beneath me. Thanks lads and gents

It really depends on your preferences. The entire industry has really moved away from minimalist, barefoot running ever since Hoka One One put everyone on the maximalist trend. I have a friend who has tried other shoes but gets so many injuries if he doesn't run in a Nike Free. You have to kind of figure that out for yourself unfortunately. I personally always got a bit banged up if I ran more than like 2-3 miles in a Nike Free but you might be different. There are still some shoes which aren't fully maxed out cushioned still but aren't completely minimalist as well that you could also try.

Thanks dude! I should have added that I really don’t see myself getting in more than a couple miles at a time. My goal is really to just get my heart rate up for half an hour or so a day. I think I’m just infatuated with the idea of running as we did many years ago. I’m sure like many of you, I remember spending basically every summer barefoot as a child, so getting back to that ideology is attractive to me.

I had some of the very first Nike fly knit racers... that initial one that was super basic, and I really enjoyed sprints in that shoe as it felt fast af... just it sucked on longer and slower jogs.

I keep seeing where it seems like everyone is wearing these massive shoes to run in, and that just seems like it would remove any connection to the ground.
Thanks again man

I’d recommend the Nike Pegasus 37 as it’s on sale for under $100.

Take a look at the Saucony Kinvara 11 or 12 or the Adidas Boston 9. They're relatively low-stack (by today's standards), have decent ground feel, and aren't expensive (by today's standards)

72and10 72and10 If you have local running store, I'd strongly suggest to visit them. Most running store has a scanner that can analyze type of foot you have. No, DSG or Footlocker are NOT running store even though they carry some of the running shoes. They don't have same knowledge as those who works at the actual running store.

As B Blecghhrunner said, you'd have to find yourself type running shoes that works for you. Just because it works for others, does it mean work for you.

I work for Brooks. I recommend taking a look at the Revel: https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/revel-4-mens-running-shoes/110347.html
It’s meant to be your low-profile entry-level running shoe. It even has a knit upper. I’m also willing to answer any questions anybody has for me about Brooks.

Julien Wanders did switch to ASICS!
