Tallying up the votes:

Strangers on a Train - 4
An Education - 2
Synecdoche, New York - 2
Into the Wild - 0
The White Ribbon - 0

Still need plenty more.
I need to redeem myself for The White Ribbon. I drove to the SCAD Film Festival a couple years back and sat to watch it, but was way too tired and just snoozed through the entire thing.

I saw Mean Streets yesterday and it's tough for me to gauge films like this because I like to look at a movie absolutely, not make a determination based on the director's future work or importance in history. I did enjoy the performance by Keitel, but felt that DeNiro overshadowed him. Still, Keitel was great in a subtle way (if that makes any sense). I absolutely loved the dialogue and the grittiness of the film. Story was solid, but I just couldn't stay invested with Charlie's plight to keep JB out of trouble.

Anyways, 8.0.

BTW, I really don't want Nolan overseeing Batman after he leaves. IMO, there's no point. Let another director take a crack at the franchise with their vision. Besides, the new Batman franchise needs to dovetail with the JL film, and a dark brooding Batman isn't going to play well with the other members. I liked the rumor a couple years back though, where Nolan would complete the trilogy and Snyder would adapt The Dark Knight Returns. And even though it was blasted by critics, I felt Snyder did the best job any director could in regards to Watchmen. The Dr. Manhattan montage was beautifully crafted and had it not been for whoever played Laurie and the over stylized fight sequences, would have been in contention for comic book film GOAT.

I have a feeling Mean Streets is not going to be something I enjoy, but I'll watch it after the Indians game and a replay of The Big C.

The Big C is a fantastic show, by the way. Season two starts tonight.

Their miniseries's are always dope. Anybody see Angels in America? Watched part of it in my playwrighting class and loved how trippy and weird some of the scenes were. Plus it was cool seeing Mary Louise-Parker (even though she looks ten times better nowadays) teamed up with Andy Botwin 10 years or so before the inception of Weeds.

I still think Watchmen could've been good if they didn't cast Matthew Goode and Malin Akerman. All of them were important, but those two and Comedian had all of the emotional weight of the story on them...and they were both terrible.

But yeah...holding my ground on Buscemi. They throw 2 or 3 big character moments at dude an episode, and he'll hit maybe one. The writing is great, and he acts well, but can't do this part. For me...he can't sell the violence, can't sell the comedy, doesn't live up to the power. I mean Michael Pitt steals episodes from him...

You know what's fitting...in Mean Streets 'that guy' shows up, for I'm guessing his first role. He played Richie Aprile in The Sopranos and killed it. Held his own, hijacked a season at times, was just savage...and could put on the fake face, carry on like any guy, but that would just make him more intimidating...like Gus from Breaking Bad. But that guy...I remember hearing that they almost cast him as Tony Soprano, but didn't think he could sell the role. I'm sure, he would've done a good job as Tony...maybe even very good at times, but he couldn't pull that off, not barely like Gandolfini did. Just like Steve Buscemi does a good enough job with some pretty great writing. There's been enough episodes and scenes that coud've really great, but instead just felt like good, smart ideas, because most of the big storylines have to begin with, end with or flow through...Steve Buscemi.

I can think of 3 HBO shows that put that much pressure on the patriarch, Deadwood, Sopranos and Big Love. He's supposed to take over for Gandolfini and McShane? Because he feels more like Bill Paxton...which says I'm gonna hate him soon.

I don't think it'll get that bad...or bad at all...but it should've been so much better.

I agree on Buscemi in Boardwalk.  He works well as Nucky, who is only a gangster by necessity.  He's really more of a politician.  Buscemi plays that role perfectly IMO.  Looking forward to season 2.

We should all do our ratings on a scale of 10.  That way after each movie, we'll get a cumulative score for each movie based off the same numbers.  You can go 8.4/10, or a simple 6/10 or 6.6/10, whatever.

ALL ratings must be on a  /10 scale.
