Mike Miller would be a great pickup for the Lakers, and I saw it coming since we all saw how much the Lakers needed some shooting help in the playoffs. He's been productive in every type of role he's had. And you can make the argument that he's a more consistent shooter than Ray Allen, who can look great when he's on but when he's off...it's ugly.

All he has to do is spot up and make threes from Kobe's penetration and Gasol passing from the post. During the WCFs, the Lakers had no one that could step in and make the Suns pay for crowding the lane. They pretty much dared Odom, Artest, Brown, and Farmar to shoot from outside

The kid has shown a lot, Raptors have faith in giving him minutes, and producing.

This guy calls 07.01.2010 the stupidest day in NBA history. I am leaning his way.
Deals can't be official until next week anyways, anyone who was expecting yesterday to be the biggest free agent day in the history of the NBA wasn't thinking properly. It was never expected to be. This is just the beginning.

You might want more, but these guys are going to be getting a lot of money, give them some time.

How can you call it a failure after one day when they can't even discuss any kind of contract deals beforehand?

Did you listen to the podcast? He was talking about done deals. Not even mentioning all this speculation.

APMiami Heat President Pat Riley will focus on LeBron James Friday.
http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?...se late Thursday night | cleveland.com&src=sp

CLEVELAND ---- Miami Heat President Pat Riley was not first but it didn't stop Riley from getting a head start the day before the Heat's scheduled meeting with LeBron James. The meeting takes place Friday morning at the IMG building on the corner of East 9th and St. Clair in downtown Cleveland.

The New Jersey Nets were the first team to meet with James on Thursday morning, followed by the New York Knicks. The sessions began the most anticipated free-agent period in NBA history ---- and James leads the class.

Riley leads a group that includes Managing General Partner Micky Arison and Andy Elisburg, senior vice president/assistant general manager of basketball operations. They gathered Thursday evening near the far right corner in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel lounge.

The atmosphere was casual. Riley and members of his group were barely audible from a distance of six-feet away. The discussion was certainly
about Friday's meeting with James.

When approached, Riley asked for a moment while he continued to conduct business.

Shortly after two members of Riley's party called it a night, Leon Rose, James' agent, entered the room and joined Riley and Elisburg. More than likely, Rose will participate in today's meeting with the Heat, but apparently neither side could wait.

So why the rush?

Rose and Riley talked for nearly 45 minutes. Their conversation ended around 12:20 A.M. Just before leaving, Riley would only address the Cleveland Cavaliers new coaching hire.

"I'm not surprised," said Riley, about new Cavaliers coach Byron Scott. "He's a good choice. He'll do a wonderful job."

Riley is familiar with Scott, who won three NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers under then coach Riley.

WHEN Mike Miller shoots, he's amongst the elite in the NBA as far as shooting %. That's the key....WHEN he shoots. He's frustrating from that POV, because he's one of the best (if not the best) shooter in the NBA, but he doesn't put up many shots. That being said, he's so much more than "just" a shooter. Dude can facilitate the offense. He's a good ball-handler, rebounder, and passer. On the offensive end, he's one of the rare dudes who can pretty much do it all if need-be. You're going to love his hustle and heart as well. He plays hard. Miller on the Lakers would be a great fit. Like I said before, he can facilitate the offense from numerous spots on the floor. And honestly....if Miller shot as much as Ray (at this point in their careers), he'd be looked at differently than many of you who haven't seen him play.

man i cant read this crap anymore... these fake twitter acct nonsense... just sign on the dotted line people

Teams handing out contracts like theyre candy

JA, what I was getting at was, Amare and Bosh more then likely want a S&T so they can get their 30M. They could choose to go to one of these teams with cap space, and tell their respective teams to do a S&T or they'll sign outright, walking away and leaving their teams with nothing.

Their teams can use the Rockets as leverage. Why take back stuff they don't really want from these gutted teams, when the Rockets actually have worthwhile pieces (Scola/Battier expiring/Ariza/Hill/Patterson/Knicks draft picks) Rockets might not be their first choice, but that's where the 30M come into play. Sacrafice 30M to go to where you wanna go, or, take the 30M and play for Houston, who really doesn't have that bad a squad, even after a S&T.

Of course though, I think it's a long shot Houston gets either, anyway.

According to The Detroit News, the Pistons contacted their own free agents Ben Wallace and Will Bynum.

They also called center Brendan Haywood (Dallas) and forward Matt Barnes (Orlando).

"Both sides want to get something done, but it's kind of early in the process, so we are just taking it day-to-day," Bynum's agent Mark Bartelstein told the Detroit Free Press.

[h5]Carlos Boozer | Jazz [/h5]

UPDATE: Tony Dutt, the agent for Rashard Lewis and Brandon Bass, told the Orlando Sentinel Thursday that the rumored sign-and-trade deal between the Magic and Jazz "has no legs."

Boozer is a close friend of Dwight Howard's, but sources close to the Magic say they aren't interested in Boozer.

----

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1703Carlos Boozer is expected to sign with either Miami, New York, New Jersey or Chicago. He could re-sign with Utah, however that's unlikely because that would put the Jazz over the tax threshold. Another team that might have interest in Boozer is Orlando. He could only go to Central Florida via a sign-and-trade.

From the Deseret News: "As for the Orlando sign-and-trade possibility, CBSSports.com on Wednesday identified Boozer as being on Magic star http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2384Dwight Howard's 'short list' of preferred offseason acquisitions. The Magic's official team website addressed a potential Boozer-to-Orlando scenario earlier this week. The Magic are over the NBA's team payroll salary cap, though, so obtaining Boozer would have to involve a sign-and-trade deal between Orlando and Utah."

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Boozer will give the Jazz the first shot at signing him to a new contract. According to the newspaper, the Jazz will probably have to offer a six-year deal to keep Boozer.

ESPN's Chad Ford has more on this potential sign-and-trade:

Magic offering Bass, Gortat and Carter
"The Jazz would like to re-sign Boozer. But if they can't, they'll actively pursue a sign-and-trade to get something back for Boozer. The Magic have been offering Marcin Gortat, Brandon Bass, the expiring contract of Vince Carter to interested teams. The Jazz may also have interest in a sign-and-trade for J.J. Redick. They still need a shooter to replace Kyle Korver."

http://
What about Haslem?
6:15AM ET

[h5]Udonis Haslem | Heat [/h5]

The Heat are spending the first few days of free agency recruiting Chris Bosh and LeBron James. The team has said they'd like to re-sign Udonis Haslem. However, he'll have to be renounced if the Heat land Bosh and James and re-sign Dwyane Wade.

Henry Thomas is the agent Haslem, Wade and Bosh, and will try to get something done for Haslem.

"The Heat has consistently expressed its desire to re-sign Haslem," Thomas told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "But there are going to be some realities there that we all have to face."

"He's in the position to field offers from teams and should he choose to involve Miami with those offers, he certainly has the right to do that," Thomas added, "but he doesn't have the obligation to do it. ... Quite honestly I don't know for sure, myself, what's going to happen."

7:13AM ET

[h5]Boston Celtics [/h5]

The Boston Globe reports the Celtics called agent Mark Bartelstein regarding Brad Miller and David Lee soon after free agency began.

General manager Danny Ainge and head coach Doc Rivers are concerned the team will start next season with little depth in the frontcourt with Kendrick Perkins' offseason knee surgery recovery and Rasheed Wallace's expected retirement.

"The Celtics are a great franchise," Bartelstein said. "It's certainly a team, when they are interested you're crazy not to listen. Danny and Doc do a great job. Brad loves the way the Celtics play. That's why they get into it all the time. They're very competitive; he's very competitive. We'll certainly talk to them and see what happens. It's a real interesting fit. We'll talk to Danny and see what happens here."

http://
Nuggets want Melo to be like Elway
8:05AM ET

[h5]Carmelo Anthony | Nuggets [/h5]

Carmelo Anthony has been offered a three-year, $65 million extension from the Nuggets. There was a report Wednesday that the team will consider trading him if he doesn't sign that extension because he can opt out of his current deal after next season and be the top free agent in 2011.

Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien says he wants Anthony to be like John Elway.

"Win a championship and play in one place forever," Warkentien told The Denver Post. "Bill Russell, David Robinson, you go to one place and you're the brand. There's a special category for that type of guy."

As for the extension to Anthony, Warkentien said: "Nothing's new -- (owner) Stan Kroenke's in it to win it. As far as the offer, did you expect anything less? In our business, (contract offers) always depend on the name, and Melo's the right name."

http://
Celtics call Ray Allen first
10:08AM ET

[h5]Ray Allen | Celtics [/h5]

UPDATE: With Pierce now back in the fold, and Rivers back as well, you have to wonder if Allen might be leaning towards giving it another go with a Celtics team that came tantalizingly close to a NBA title this past season.
---

The Celtics first call at the start of free agency was to Ray Allen. Allen has not met with any other teams yet and head coach Doc Rivers wants the shooting guard to stay in Boston.

"I can't go into whom [we called], but I can tell you we started at 12:01 like everybody else did," Rivers told The Boston Globe. "The first call, we called Ray. We sat around and we have these names on the list and we said, 'Hey guys, our most important guy is Ray. We gotta get Ray back.' And we already talked to Paul because we could. Ray is a vital part to our basketball team, huge."

"I think because Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce get so much pub, I don't think people really appreciate and understand how important Ray is and what he does even when he is not shooting, his presence on the floor," Rivers added.

http://
Amar'e out, Tyrus in?
[h5]Tyrus Thomas | Bobcats [/h5]

According to FOXSportsArizona.com, free agent Amar'e Stoudemire has received a better contract offer from another team, believed to be Miami, then what the Suns are willing to give him and he might agree to that deal with that team sometime on Friday.

Since Stoudemire is probably leaving Phoenix, the Suns could be on the verge of tendering restricted free agent http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3032Tyrus Thomas an offer sheet, reports the website.

Since Thomas is a restricted free agent, the http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=chaCharlotte Bobcats have the right to match any offer sheet.
