I'd rather do a draft for current players than all time players because I'm not confident that many people have seen players before 1996.

Wonder why Kobe isn't on level 6 but The Logo is?

Nash over Kidd AND Payton

they wont win again for a looooong time

So your telling me that Chicago wont win another title for a "looooong time" gtfooh Im sorry yes Michael was a once in a life time talent, but there is no way the third largest media market does not get a title.
Detroit San Antonio Post Pat Riley Miami. These are places that wont win a title for a looooong time.
Chicago is always going to get bounces. Reinsdorf simply has too much power in the sports world not to win a NBA title in the next 10 years

I'd be down too

For the record, he has Kobe in his top 10 now, this book was written before kobe one his 4th, so he'll be even higher at this point after his 5th.

1. For the paperback, I’m expanding the Pyramid to 13 and sticking Kobe at No. 8. And you know what? Duncan’s No. 7 spot isn’t safe. Let’s see how the next few years play out.
And then he won #5.

So safe to assume that as of now, he would reside at #7.  I was just going by what he had down in the book as i was reading it.

IMO, Tim Duncan has cemented his legacy as the greatest PF the game has ever seen....but according to Simmons, his spot at #7 isn't sealed?  Also, why is the Logo held in higher regard than Kobe?  Kobe not being included in the 6th level (even before this seasons ring) is a joke....

I'll dissect the list a little more later on...

J's, he's saying that he may move Kobe into the 7 slot ahead of Duncan.  Not that he's just going to move Duncan somewhere else or anything.

Honestly, I didn't have a problem with Kobe not being in the top level at the time he wrote the book.  Remember, when he started that book, all Kobe had were his 3 titles as 1B, and a bunch of scoring marks.

Now, if he wrote this book today, after he added 2 titles to his previous 3, and had Kobe at 15, yeah, that would be a little dumb imo.

Here's where I'm excited to get too.  I cross my fingers and pray that Kobe gets to 6, and now people will start to look at who?  Magic and Bird.  (some think Kobe is already past Magic, I am not one of them---yet)  But can you IMAGINE the day people start mentioning Kobe being above Larry Bird?

If Kobe gives us 2 top shelf years, and maybe 1-2 semi decent, Reggie Miller type end of career type years, hits 32,000 points, possible all time playoff scorer, close to 235 or so playoff games, 5K boards and assists, with 6K possible, and anywhere from 5-6 rings, Kobe is past Bird imo.  And then there will be blood in the streets with those type proclamations.

I see what people are sayin about Reggie, but I don't have an issue with where he is.  I never truly thought of Reggie as a total elite, dominant, franchise type player.  Great, solid, very very good, yes.  But upper level?  Naw, I'm good with where he is.  And Bill's reasoning was pretty solid when he spoke on the level of players at the time, much like Stockton and Malone getting to the finals at 36-37, instead of 28-30, the level of talent in the league had dropped off, they took advantage.  Interesting points there.  That's the type of stuff I do like Bill Simmons for.

He's already ahead of Larry in my opinion as well.

Only people I see still ahead of him on the all-time list are: MJ, Magic, Kareem, Bill and maybe Wilt. But if he has what you said he could end up being top 3 all time. He's a lock unless some kind of catastrophic injury befalls him of being the 3rd all time scorer, leading playoff scorer and pretty much leading the Lakers in most everything. He just needs 1 more ring to get to that MJ and Magic level.

Not to hate on Bird, I just want an answer but why exactly is Bird ahead of Kob' right now?

I can see the argument for Magic still being ranked higher, but you can also say Kobe> Magic in many people's eyes. Even though some wont admit

Charles Barkley Rips LeBron, Miami's Big Three as 'Punks'

Charles Barkley weighed in Wednesday on a recent Twitter statement by LeBron James. Barkley, a TNT analyst and former NBA  All-Star, said he hopes James remembers Barkley's critical comments and called a couple of James' more significant actions this summer "punk" moves.

"I heard about LeBron's little tweet today that he's remembering everybody who said anything bad about him," Barkley said Thursday on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM in Dallas/Fort Worth. "And he said 'everybody.' Well, I want him to make sure that he puts my name on that (list).

"I thought that his little one-hour special was a punk move. I thought them dancing around on the stage was a punk move, and I thought he should've stayed in Cleveland. Him joining Dwyane Wade's team was very disappointing to me."

Barkley spoke on "Galloway and Company," hosted by Randy Galloway, Ian Fitzsimmons and Matt Mosley. Barkley referred to a Twitter post by James -- under the name King James -- in which he said: "Don't think for one min that I haven't been taking mental notes of everyone taking shots at me this summer. And I mean everyone!"

James has been criticized for leaving Cleveland and for announcing it on a national TV special on ESPN set up by him and his handlers. He also was the subject of a story on ESPN.com about a birthday party in a Las Vegas club that sounded more hedonistic than humble. The story was later removed because ESPN said its reporter did not state clearly he was writing a story (the accuracy of the story was never questioned).

In addition to the TV special, Barkley also weighed in on a rally at American Airlines Arena where James, Chris Bosh and Wade were treated like rock stars and talked about themselves as arguably the greatest trio ever to play in the NBA and future winners of five, six, seven championships.

Galloway and his co-host chuckled at Barkley's remarks, then said they enjoyed the fact Barkley wanted James to include him on his list.

"He's got enough people kissing his *!* with his family and all the people who work for him," Barkley said. "We don't have to tell him what he wants to hear all the time. That's one of the reasons why ... some of these young guys ... my opinion is he should have stayed in Cleveland.

"That one-hour special, them jumping around on stage like punks, that weren't (sic) cool to me. From a basketball standpoint, I wish he had stayed in Cleveland, and if he takes that as criticism, so be it.

"He knows where I'll be, I don't run. I'm on TV every week, I'm easy to find."

He was an average player.

Also, if you're really a Heat fan and not a bandwagon rider you know damn well what losing is like.

I'm a die hard kings fan. I know how clutch Horry is. But come on, you are seriously going to tell me that horry is top 100? Without looking up any stats I'm pretty sure he never even came close to season avg's up of 15 & 8. Simmons left guys  off his list like Zo, Richmond, Ben wallace, Billups, etc and that's off the top of my head I'm sure there are much more. Now I don't know the requirements or what factors were made in his decisions for his list, but I just don't see how Horry can be on it.

robert horry is not an average player.

you know how there are undeniable great closers in baseball? like Mo? robert horry is one of the most clutch "closers" the NBA has seen. he should get much respect for what he did. he was very good at a specific thing and helped changed the fortunes of 3 franchises.

4 if you count him throwing nash into the table

chicago aint gonna win anything

they were crap for years before mj

and now theyre crap for years after mj

and the size of the market dont matter as much as you think

new york is the biggest market in the world and they only have two championships in like 65 years

and dallas is the 4th biggest market and they only got 1 trip to the finals in their entire history
