As highly rated and critically acclaimed the show was it didn't have the best viewership at the time. Was competing against some other Sunday night shows that drew more eyes. What was the reason for it ending @ the time it was cancelled?
Def needed a season with lone wolf Michael, Slim and Fat Face Rick as the new kingpins and Marlo inevitably crashing out
would have been dope to see more Avon and Wee Bey in prison + Stringer just kinda popped up outta nowhere knowing Clay Davis and ****. They shoulda showed that process
Wish the newspaper angle had more time to develop. I feel like it would have played out a lot better with more time
*raises hand*
I still don't understand how yall defend Avon and **** on String.
Avon set up his brother to DIE!
Avon was a rabid dog.
String gave dude every chance to smarten up.
The media angle was 100% necessary.
not how it was done
They just didn't execute it well in S5.
David Simon himself speculated that, particularly at that time on a subscription TV service, that a predominantly black cast will naturally limit the audience. They were diving really really deep into black stories, except in S2 which was largely a white story and was the most watched season by far. After that ratings dropped damn near 50% in S3 and the show was almost cancelled. Almost 2 years between S3 & S4.What was the reason for it ending @ the time it was cancelled?

Yeah String was trying to play "away games" but was sloppy as hell with it. Tried too hard to walk the line when it came to the game and going legit. Avon chose a side, stayed there and never really wavered. String trusted the downtown suits, but didn't trust D, Wallace, etc. He was very inconsistent.
That's what I said
I just don’t get how they get to season 5 and decide that needs to be such a dominate angle
Read "All the Pieces Matter"
Yeah S4 in unequivocally about the youth. It's essentially an "origin" story about the older players we've seen in the first three seasons.
There is no “co-op” with Marlo. Avon was the only one who saw it & was the only one who remembered what line of work they’re in*raises hand*

Avon admitted that Stringer was right and that beefing over the corners was ultimately pointless.
