Needs.

1) Pass Rushing OLB/DE
2) Monster NT
3) RT
4) Free Safety
5) Veteran/Rookie QB
6) WR
7) RB back up for Gore

During FA we should target Housh, Gross, Otogwe, Suggs, Peppers and Haynesworth.

For the draft we should try and get Orakpo, Everette Brown, Mays, BJ Raji, and Oher.

But thats my opinion.

Peace.

You're crazy!...the other recent 49er reciever better than Lloyd is Terrell Owens.
Look at these catches Lloyd would make^^^^^^

You dont have to show me highlights. I havent missed a Niner game in 12 years. I know he could make amazing catches at times. But he sucks. Period.

The dude was a baller he had 800 yds and 7 TDs with guys like Ken Dorsey throwing him the ball. Bring him back! Him as your number 1,Bruce as your craftynumber 2,Bryant Johnson your number 3,Jason Hill your number 4. Then bring in Michael Vick to compete with Shaun Hill and you're instantly a NFCchampionship contender.

Singletary hits rewind on '08, fast fowards to '09

Mike Singletary just concluded his end-of-the-year press conference and it appears the trigger is up for grabs again.

He revealed that he has control of the 53-man roster. He said that it is a distinction that he shares with General Manager Scot McCloughan, reasoning that whatever decisions are made must be done so together.

"It is very important that Scot and I have a comprimising spirit between us," Singletary said. "I am certainly not in the spirit of, 'Hey, I'm doing this. I want this.' Because I'm trying to teach a team to work together and compromise and understand what 'one' means.

"So Scot and I, we're going to have to lead that way and be an example that way."

Pressed about who would have the final say-so in draft matters, Singletary said: "I don't see Scot as above me. I don't see him as beneath me. I see us working together."

The 49ers operated with similar gray area during Mike Nolan's regime. Nolan had personnel power until it was granted solely to McCloughan last offseason. The two played down the change at the time, saying that the only thing that changed was that McCloughan now had the "trigger" meaning final say.

Here are other highlights from the afternoon session:

# # #

The decision to let Mike Martz go as offensive coordinator came down to pass vs. run. Singletary wants a dominant ground game that allows the 49ers to "impose our will on the defense."

"You have to know that you can run the football,'' Singletary said. "I'm not trying to outsmart anyone. I'm not trying to be a magician. I'm playing football.''

Singletary said that Martz is good at his style, but said that style wasn't a good fit for his vision of the 49ers.

In addition to bidding farewell to Martz, the 49ers also dismissed quarterbacks coach Ted Tollner and running backs coach Tony Nathan.

# # #

As for Martz's replacement, Singletary said that he is in the stage of compiling information and data. He has a list in mind. "Right now, it's a pretty long list but it will shorten down quick,'' he said. He declined to specifically address a question about Scott Linehan, a run-oriented offensive coordinator who was fired as the Rams head coach in September.

Asked about his timeline for the offensive coordinator hire, Singletary joked, "Yesterday." He means that he wants to do it as soon as possible and planned on working today, tomorrow and through the weekend on the issue. When the 49ers get to the interview stage, G.M. Scot McCloughan will also meet with the candidates.

# # #

Singletary identified the team's offseason needs as: another quarterback, another tackle, a pass rusher ("You can never have enough of those") and a safety with some range.

# # #

Singletary again held back on anointing Shaun Hill as his starter for 2009. He has already told Hill that he's going to have to compete for the job, regardless of who is on the roster. Why hold back? Singletary said he has no desire to make a promise he can't keep, and if somebody becomes available with more talent than Hill, he doesn't want to go back on his word.

"What I tell you, that's exactly what I mean,'' Singletary said. "I don't want to get into making promises just because somebody else things I should."

# # #

Singletary said he would be very involved in the draft. He said he and Scot would make the decision together and he wants to challenge each other. "I'm not a 'yes man,''' he said. "I couldn't be one if I wanted to be."

Interestingly, Singletary admitted he blew it in one of his first forays into scouting. When McCloughan showed him tape of a Mississippi linebacker named Patrick Willis, Singletary was not impressed. "I said, 'Scott, you really like this guy?''

It wasn't until later that Singletary heard about Willis' difficult family life that he understood the adversity he had overcome. That's when he realized Willis had the ability to be a special player.

# # #

Singletary will be in his first full season as head coach. Jed York is a 27-year-old team president. Scot McCloughan is among the youngest general managers in the NFL.

But that lack of experience doesn't bother Singletary. He said there are plenty of people around the league who have 30 years experience - but in the wrong direction. The 49ers could bring in a veteran presence, he said, but the team would "run the risk of stifling the energy and excitement and ideas simply because it's out of their comfort zone."

# # #

Close losses to the Cardinals and Dolphins have some believing that the 49ers have the talent of a postseason team, but Singletary doesn't by it.

"We're a playoff team when we're in the playoffs,'' he said. "We're not there. But we will be."

Lloyd is the definition of trash, the only WR I ever saw who could make a one handed catch on a ball thrown behind him but couldn't make thecatch if you hit him in the numbers or in stride to save his life, dude isn't even a BUM he's a super BUM.

^ I remember that game. Such a joke....WHo remembers when he tried rapping on KNBR years ago? Let him stay in Chicago, he's making a name for himselfthere. If the Niners could land a #1 Reciever...Oh boy, I cannot wait.

what are your opinions on Singletary's firings??? I personally don't understand why the 9ers fired Martz, I think it was cuz of the games @Arizona/MIAMi . he was the reason why the 9ers were able to put up about 20 + points a game, I just don't see the 9ers being a >.500 team next year. They're gonna be playing a much better division, the AFC south and gore is gonna have a damn tough time facing 8 men in the box on 1st and 2nd down whenthe 9ers will most probably be running the ball. This will then cause bad field position to convert on third down. Yielding similar offensive problems to the9ers of 2007. at least with martz, defenses were left on their toes on 1st/2nd/3rd downs and we were able to take advantage of that, most of the time

Pretty much agree with everything you said. I'd add Jenkins to the list for the draft.

As far as the firing of Martz, it had to be done. The main problem to me was that he wasn't a long term fix. We need someone that's gonna be here forawhile, give us an identity and be able to build around that.

Exactly. We need an OC that is going to be around for the long haul. It would be nice (and very unlikely) to have a Holmgrem or Shannahan type as our OC butthose guys aren't going to stick around very long.

I liked Martz as our OC and I hoped the 9ers would keep him to build continuity. But it was clear that his style doesn't mesh with Singletary's.

Lastly, j20 I would add to that list - A run blocking Lorenzo Neal type FB.
