At the end of the day, Putin is a monster. While something had to give after the West's economic "Shock Therapy" imposed on Russia in the 1990's, an autocrat, who blames gay people for all of the country's problems, is not it.
I just wish that Putin and Netanyahu were treated the same. They are not. In many US States, you can protest, boycott, and demand sanctions on Russia and most Democrats will come out and support you. By constrast, you cannot do the same towards Netanyahu's Israel. That's not just the case in the US but also in Germany and the UK.
If I had to pick a "side," I'd side with those being invaded and displaced. But many elite and not so elite forces in the US expect us to act like Ukraine is the defenseless and morally supperior lamb but Israel's agression against Gaza, the Westbank, Lebanon, and Iranian girl's schools are "complicated."
I agree that there’s an obvious disparity in how the Ukrainian cause is treated vs the Palestinian cause but how does that relate to Zelensky striking an Iranian ship carrying alleged military cargo?
I think we can safely assume that the author of that tweet doesn’t take issue with Iran’s strikes in countries that provide military assistance to the US or Israel’s war against them. Those are legitimate targets for Iran on the same basis of Ukraine striking Iranian military targets.
For whatever reason, there’s a disturbing overlap between extreme left pro-Palestine support and pro-Russia sentiment. By extreme left I’m referring to the Hasan Piker type nutjobs.
Hasan Piker for example explicitly supports Russia’s annexation of Crimea and uses Russia’s justification for it. Journalist Ryan Grim, also closely affiliated with Hasan and a strong supporter of Palestina, deleted 99% of his Ukraine invasion tweets because he was openly justifying it.
Other extreme left political influencers in that orbit often lean towards Russia as well.
For idiots like Hasan Piker, it seems like the thought process never goes deeper than ‘America bad, therefore anything opposed to America good.’
Aside from that though, I don’t see how these people can square supporting the Palestinians against Israel’s genocide while also implicitly or explicitly suggesting Ukraine bows down to Russia. Or just outright supporting Russia’s invasion entirely.
Russia’s invasion isn’t genocide and certainly not as horrific as the many decades of Palestinian suffering and ongoing genocide but that really shouldn’t matter much when the end result is likewise lots of dead civilians. Both causes deserve support.
The ‘America bad’ mindset is just total cancer that rots people’s brains. To some of those people, they’ll suddenly cheer on military imperialism when it’s being done by a country that opposes the US.
If China ever decides to invade Taiwan, it won’t be a surprise to see those same people cheering it on because China opposes the west.
