***Official Political Discussion Thread***

dwalk31 dwalk31 do you think Trump saying "Kung Flu" at his rally is racist?
Or is your answer "I can see how one would come to the conclusion he is racist from that verbiage but I cannot imply he is a racist preson"

I think that the term is used, by him, to emphasize his assertion that COVID-19 came from China.

The terminology is, undoubtedly, potentially harmful to many Asian-Americans and can be used to stoke anti-Asian sentiment in the U.S.

That, along with much of his rhetoric, unequivocally goes in the box things he shouldn't say.

He had stopped for a while, but it appears that someone has told him (or he personally thinks) that doubling-down is somehow politically expedient.

I don't support it.

Ah, the familiar pattern

Step 1: Trump says or admits something abominable
Step 2: WH officials insist he was just joking and attack those who would argue otherwise
Step 3: Trump doubles down and makes it clear he wasn't joking

Step 4: Commentators pick and choose when they want to believe the things he says

Do you not do the same thing? You tell us to believe there will be health care and a second step act but then don't drink bleach. Drink the bleach you coward.

Or are you insinuating that you do not pick and choose which parts to ignore or believe?

I don't recall Trump telling people to drink bleach.

Did he mention ingesting disinfectants as a possible solution that can be looked into? Yes.

Did that make sense when he said it? No.

He later said he was being sarcastic.

But that isn't an instruction to drink bleach to cure COVID.

are you currently taking Hydroxycloroquine?

I do not know if this has been brought up, so forgive me. If Trump holds a rally in the state/city where masks are mandatory, and Trump refuses wear one in that state/city, can't he be arrested?

I hope so. It'd be nice if he resisted a little bit and they whooped his *** a little bit. I want a cop to snatch that toupee off.

Short answer: no

Not sure he can even get a citation/fine for it.

This seems pretty obvious: because he likely thinks that packed rallies will help his election chances.
Do you think that he thinks not urging his supporters to take COVID seriously helps his election chances? What are your thoughts on facilitating the spread of a deadly virus to help his election chances?

You implied only his critics pick and choose what to believe so why are you not taking if since he told people to take it? What do you have to lose?

He has said people should consult their doctor. Mine hasn't suggested or prescribed it.

He said that he consulted with his white house physician before he started taking it.

Did he say to take it without a doctor suggesting or prescribing it?

E.U. May Exclude U.S. as It Reopens Borders, Citing Failures on Virus
European Union officials are racing to agree on who can visit the bloc as of July 1 based on how countries of origin are faring with new coronavirus cases. Americans, so far, are excluded, according to draft lists seen by The New York Times.

The rest of the world is taking notice of America's incompetence

Trump probably gonna throw and tantrum to trying and make sure they don't do this

1. I don't think that he urges his supporters to not take it serious. But I do think he thinks it plays well to his base and many that have lost their jobs/livelihoods as a result of the response to COVID to focus more heavily on other issues.

2. If the virus is killing at a large rate, then it would seem that the rallies would hurt his chances based on the survival chances of his base that attend (and who they eventually come in contact with).

Also, I think that, to some extent, facilitation of the spread is happening regardless. Grocery stores facilitate, Target/Walmart facilitate, weddings facilitate, the current marches/protests facilitate, etc.

I think people are having to make individual decisions based on what they deem important.

"Hydroxychloroquine. Try it. If you'd like, Take it." ~ Donald Trump

"What do you have to lose?" Mr Trump said. "It's been out there for a long time. What do you have to lose? I hope they use it."

But it is clear when you put the full quotes that he mentions doctors prescribing it and even mentioned having to ask his doctor.

He also repeatedly gives the caveat that he is not a doctor.

we all know why he said that dumb **** man. you like to pepper your weak protestations with apologist nonsense. c'mon man. if you're gonna condemn something, condemn that **** outright. be a man once in a while. you're embarrassing your fraternity.

"I think"
"by him"
"his assertion"

Delk asking a girl out: "I was thinking, maybe, you know, if somebody, possibly me, could be so bold as to query you for some of your time, perhaps a date, but that is synonymous with a meeting, so let's not get carried away with the word choice. It could be just you and me, or you, me, and your friends. I would prefer the former but the latter could be maybe better than nothing. I am not a doctor, that is something I repeatedly like to say as a caveat. Also, I think that, to some extent, you may actually enjoy my company. Again, please don't take my assertion too strongly, it is merely something I am saying. Please judge me by what I do because sometimes I say things that are technically not true but it is not a lie either. Feel free to sigh in disagreement with any particular thing I have said."

edit: (sent 5 minutes later) "Please respond."

I am firmly against racism unless it comes against asians, mexicans, native americans, europeans, scandanavians, russians, south africans, canadians, koreans, and new zealanders. In those cases, Trump should try to do better with his rhetoric, but I'll continue to support him and he is not a racist despite the fact that his father was arrested at a Klan rally, he employs white supremacists, and multiple people have come forward saying that he used racial slurs on the set of the Apprentice.
