***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Yea... I'm from Dekalb county, joined Niketalk in 2006, so that I could front in the political discussion thread in 2018...

Seems legit.

Like I said it would be great to meet some of y'all in real life. Grab a beer and have actual, civil, convos. But the personal attacks, unfounded beliefs (calling me a racist white dude when you clearly have no idea who I am) is just silly, and pointless. The sad part is that others in this thread, who also don't know me, will believe you for some silly reason they make up in their head.
You are being a hypocrite, and undercutting the moral high ground you are trying to claim.

At the same time you criticize Timid for making negative assumptions about you, you are making negative assumptions about many in this thread.

Given your past post in this thread, I know it not the norm for you, but hold yourself to the same standards you ask of others.

Also a couple people who generally find the content of your post to be generally bad faith nonsense, also took issue with the insults lobbied at you.

So please climb off the high horse. You have not earned the joy ride.

Not make it personal

Lol

Ok

You are riding with build the wall, Muslim bans, immigrants in cages, less funding for education, WS organizations, guns for everyone...... “but can we be civil??”

Lol **** no

Rusty, you've been consistent in steering clear of the racial insults and name-calling. Others have too. I support. I was referencing him, and others who like his messages.

I brought up John James and no one has mentioned a single policy position they disagree with. Yet, they slam him.

There was a dude on here that pretended to be black and would slander black folks under the guise of "we gotta do better". Happens a lot online, especially forums and YouTube comments.

Anytime I see "as a black man" or "fellow African Americans" after some borderline rhetoric I'm automatically skeptical

Finally, actually policy discussions. I will take each in turn.

Muslim Ban: President Obama had a similar travel ban that was met without a huge uproar.

Wall: Countries have borders, it isn't a huge deal. The only plausible argument against it are that it is a waste of money because the Cartel would still be able to go under or above. I don't think it is a huge deal, but I don't think it is a huge negative either. There is already fencing. The real issue is border security.

Separating children at border: This issue is complex. No one wants to see children separated from their families. At the same time, children get separated from their families all the time when their parents commit crimes at jails all across America... CNN just doesn't cover it. The issue is the risk to undocumented immigrants, and their children, when they cross the border illegally. They often fall victim to the cartel, and sex trafficking. Many parents accept this risk to escape terrible situations. The question is whether it is smart to provide an incentive for taking that risk. Personally, I don't think so.

less funding for education: You have to be way more specific

Guns for everyone: Again, that policy is not unique to either party

Is he pro “black People are at fault for their socioeconomic status and problems”?

His website describes him as a "Conservative Outsider who supports the Trump Agenda"

Here he is on stage with Ted Nugent spouting out all the conservative catch phrases you would expect

"Our constitution is under attack"
"Our first amendment is under attack when we send our babies to these liberal indoctrination institutions"
"We must secure our borders"
"We must defund sanctuary cities and give that money to ICE"
"God and country"
"Make ____ great again"

He is in lockstep with every other facet of MAGA ideology, so it is safe to assume that he is right on board with the "boot straps" rhetoric as well

As for James, i dont know much about him but whether hes black or not, if his goal isnt to change the current GOP from within to make it a more pro-black party then hes just being another white supremacy pawn

and by pro black i dont mean bootstrap bs ideology that completely ignores history and its impact on where black people are today

Do you really expect a guy like him to be anything other than a reenactment of Michael Steele's rise to the chair of the RNC to counter the election of a Black, Democratic president?

You're giving the GOP base much more credit than I do.

Was he arrested for something related to the Trump transition? Or the Trump campaign? Or is this, like the trial against Manafort, completely unrelated?
We will eventually see the roster of those connected to his financial schemes and where they were in the last 24 months.

Chances are they're a family around there (to paraphrase the speaker of the house...)

And speaking of Manafort's trial, this is only one of the two he has to undergo. The second one will be about his failure to register as an agent of a foreign country. Hope your grill and your ketchup are ready.

The U.S. government has declined to come to Canada’s defence in the growing diplomatic crisis over its criticism of Saudi Arabia’s human-rights' record.

On Tuesday, a U.S. State Department spokeswoman, speaking at a media briefing in Washington, would not publicly condemn Riyadh’s arrest of civil-rights activists in the Mideast kingdom, as the Canadian government did last week. Heather Nauert said it is up to Canada and Saudi Arabia to resolve their differences. “We can’t do it for them,” she said.

Reuters reported today that Saudi Arabia is stopping all medical treatment programs in Canada and is working on the transfer of all Saudi patients from hospitals there

Saudi is a major FMR (foreign military sales) purchaser. The U.S isn’t going to criticize one of their cash cows.

Wall: Countries have borders, it isn't a huge deal. The only plausible argument against it are that it is a waste of money because the Cartel would still be able to go under or above. I don't think it is a huge deal, but I don't think it is a huge negative either. There is already fencing. The real issue is border security.

Many parents accept this risk to escape terrible situations. The question is whether it is smart to provide an incentive for taking that risk. Personally, I don't think so.

Muslim Ban: President Obama's ban was a temporary ban due to a specific threat during 2011. It was not directed towards Muslims just towards Iraqi refugees trying to enter the country. Even during the "ban", some were still allowed to enter the country but under more intense screening.

Wall: You agree that it's a waste of money yet still defend it? Why doesn't trump talk about the people that overstay their visas from other countries around the world? Have you forgotten that his wife came to the US on a work visa and when it expired she continued to work illegally? Got married to trump, brought her parents over and had "anchor babies". This is a common occurrence among many people who come to the US. Once their visas expire they stay in the country, work illegally and get married. There's no mention of people from mostly white countries doing this. They aren't called rapists and drug dealers...Nobody is looking for them.

Separating Children at the border: Before the "zero tolerance" policy made by trump, crossing the border illegally was not a crime. You would be processed and your case would be considered if you were eligible for asylum. If not, you would be sent back to your home country. Kids weren't getting lost. Kids weren't going to immigration courts on their own. Kids weren't getting molested and dying in custody.

It seems that the issues that bother you the most have to deal with people of color that speak a different language and have different religious beliefs. You're basically just like those trump supporters at the rallies but you use a different tone. You try to fool people on here by telling us your "educated" and it's all about the policies...:rolleyes

In addition, the Saudis have stopped buying Canadian products, are in the process of pulling out their students from Canadian universities, and expulsed the Canadian embassador.

All of this at a time when the US is looking to sell their crops and missing out on that sweet international student money...
