***Official Political Discussion Thread***

My favorite part of today is ninja thinking that presidents are directly responsible for the economy.
Multiple people tried to explain this to him already, I have given up on this point.

He and Rico adopted this talking point to attack Obama, so now I am gonna return the same energy until he has to break and admit that the president is not some Economic wizard.

Look at the GDP thing, he used the annual rate to attack Obama. But now he wants to use the quarterly rate to compliment Trump.

He is so ignorant on economics, he can't stay consistent. It is hilarious.

By extension, Obama's policies are still in place and Trump hasn't changed a thing. Obama is responsible for this growth this year. Thank you, President Obummer for giving us 3% growth this year :hat

The latest Roy Moore story...yikes :stoneface::smh:

I bet it still won't be sick enough to stop him from winning

It's bad enough that he made it this far with statements like this in his history:

In 1857, the United States Supreme Court did rule that black people were property. Of course, that contradicted the Constitution, and it took a civil war to overturn it. But this ruling in Obergefell is even worse in a sense because it forces not only people to recognize marriage other than the institution ordained of God and recognized by nearly every state in the union, it says that you now must do away with the definition of marriage and make it between two persons of the same gender or leading on, as one of the dissenting justices said, to polygamy, to multi-partner marriages.
We’ve got to go back and recognize that what they did in Obergefell was not only to create a right that does not exist under the Constitution, but then to mandate that that right compels Christians to give up their religious freedom and liberty.

“Homosexual behavior is a ground for divorce, an act of sexual misconduct punishable as a crime in Alabama, a crime against nature, an inherent evil, and an act so heinous that it defies one’s ability to describe it.”
I write specially to state that the homosexual conduct of a parent — conduct involving a sexual relationship between two persons of the same gender — creates a strong presumption of unfitness that alone is sufficient justification for denying that parent custody of his or her own children or prohibiting the adoption of the children of others”

“There are communities under Shariah law right now in our country,” he told an interviewer. “Up in Illinois. Christian communities; I don’t know if they may be Muslim communities.”
Pressed to name the specific communities, Mr. Moore said that they were in “Illinois, Indiana — up there. I don’t know.”

In an interview with the Guardian’s Anywhere But Washington series, Moore also said that Ronald Reagan’s famous declaration about the Soviet Union being “the focus of evil in the modern world” might today be applied to the US.
“You could say that about America, couldn’t you?” he said. “We promote a lot of bad things.” Asked for an example, he replied: “Same-sex marriage.”
When it was pointed out to Moore that his arguments on gay rights and morality were the same as those of the Russian leader, he replied: “Well, maybe Putin is right.” He added: “Maybe he’s more akin to me than I know.”

“There is no such thing as evolution,” he told The Washington Post this month. “That we came from a snake? No, I don’t believe that.”

"I think homosexuality should be illegal," Moore said. "Sodomy was declared illegal by the United States Supreme Court in 1987, it said there was no right under the constitution to enlarge the fundamental rights of homosexuals."

“We’re going through something in our country that other countries went through. Germany went through it when the state took all power and moved into the church.
“Martin Niemöller was a German pastor who stood against the Nazis, and he said ‘First they came for the Socialists, and I weren’t a Socialist so it didn’t bother me. Then they came for the Labour Unionists, and I wasn’t in the Labour unionsts, so I didn’t pay any attention. Then they came for the Jews, and hey, I wasn’t a Jew! So I did not speak out… and then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak up’.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we could say the same thing today.
“They came for the bakers, but I didn’t bake cakes. They came for the florists, but I didn’t deal in flowers. They came for a little clerk down in Kentucky by the name Kim Davis, but hey, I’m not a clerk, I have nothing to do with issuing [marriage] licenses.
“Then they came for me, and nobody was left. This will touch every person in this room and every child in this room eventually.”
“Could I do this if I were in Nuremberg… say that I was following the orders of the highest authority to kill Jews?… Could I say I was ordered to do so?. Is there a difference?”

I've never been to alabama or mississippi, or really the south in general. The furthest south (besides florida) I have been is driving to outer banks (from PA), or spending a few nights in raleigh-durham area. NOVA is southern to me  i cant even imagine what it is really like in those deep south states

McConnell: Moore should step down if allegations true
Senate Republican leadership is calling for Alabama GOP candidate Roy Moore to step down as the party's nominee if new allegations of his inappropriate sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl in 1979 are true.

Both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, released brief statements on Thursday, shortly after The Washington Post published the allegations.

"If these allegations are true, he must step aside," McConnell said.

Gardner's statement echoed that from McConnell.

“The allegations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore are deeply troubling,” he said. “If these allegations are found to be true, Roy Moore must drop out of the Alabama special Senate election.”

Earlier Thursday, The Washington Post reported that four women have accused Moore of pursuing relationships with them when they were teenagers and Moore was in his 30s.

The 14-year-old, Leigh Corfman said she met GOP candidate Roy Moore when he offered to watch her during her mother's child custody hearing. Moore, at the time, served as an assistant district attorney.

Corfman, now 53, said Moore asked for her phone number, and that the two met on two more occasions. On the first, the two kissed. During the second, she said Moore removed his clothes, took off her shirt and pants, and touched her over her bra and underpants, according to the account in the newspaper.

Moore has been the favorite to win against Democratic candidate Doug Jones, but the shocking revelations could roil the race.

It's unclear whether the Alabama state party will stand by the nominee, but Alabama law bars any candidate from withdrawing their name within 76 days of an election. That could present a situation where Moore's name is on the ballot but he cannot be certified the winner if he wins, according to Alabama state law.

Sen. Luther Strange (R-Ala.), who ran against and lost to Moore in the September GOP primary for the Senate seat, could run a write-in campaign following the allegations against Moore. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said Thursday she has talked to Strange about potentially running a write-in campaign.

However, it is unclear whether state laws would allow Strange to run a write-in campaign.

they can do what they want, as long as it hits US shores, investments gonna be sweet.
The thought process is that it'll get passed back to consumers and also to employees in wage increases. Doing "what they want" isn't what they were selling. Doing what they want just means more value for shareholders, which is great for them, but makes no sense for you to be cheering about.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cn...w-the-house-and-senate-tax-bills-compare.html

Link to differences between House and Senate bills. In case anyone was still under the impression it was passing without alterations.

|l both bills don't make no sense in how they think this is a tax cut for average middle income families

-Elderly or ill Americans with high medical bills can no longer claim medical deductions = Tax increase

-Mortgage deduction reduced by 50%, and elimination of the deduction for State taxes paid = tax increase

-Increases child tax deduction a measly $600, and non dependents are worth $300? Since these bills eliminate the personal exemption deduction of $4,050, each taxpayer would lose out on $3,450 per child or $3,750 per non child dependent = tax increase

I thought for sure the Trump tax reform bill would reduce taxes for Americans but this bill may actually INCREASE income taxes for a ton of average middle income Americans. I rather have that Obama Making Work tax credit of $400 than this crap because you're at least guarantee that amount. This bill would cost around 1.7 trillion over a decade and we might actually have to pay more in taxes too. How stupid are these Republicans to call this a 'tax cut'?

Eerie, isn't it? At least Lisa and Millhouse were creative with calling it a "temporary refund adjustment", the GOP is just flat out lying :lol
