If you read the article, it's saying that gas prices have been rising this year, they are just saying "it could drop" 50% due to OPEC. That forecast is way too optimistic.
Also the article says US gas producers would get hit hard if there was such low prices, meaning less employment, debt not getting paid off, etc.

Your article does not say gas is dropping 50%. It is speculating that if the starts line up properly that it may happen.
