Official New York Giants 2013 Off-Season thread: (2014 schedule on page 87)

For all intents and purposes, the schofield deal is all but dead, but who knows if theyre still remotely intersted....by virtue of bringing in J.McLain, who's more proven..u can actually call it a lost cause.

The thurmond signing is a good one...a 1 yr deal 3 yrs removed from the tibia injury, still 27....nyg in dire need of someone solid oppo prince.

Who do yall want at #12...if manningham is brought in....already shored up a few positions via FA so 3rd wr is a lesser ppriority.same with LB/corner and RG. Yall want Donald? Gilberr? Barr? (Realistically available at 12)...

That nicks deal....smdh.

lotsof moves thus far, hope we have a nice draft

A look at some of the Giants' new deals
BY RALPH VACCHIANO
The Giants opened the free-agent signing period with an estimated $28 million in salary cap space under the $133 million cap – a number that’s been revised since they cut the salary of guard Chris Snee, restructured punter Steve Weatherford’s contract, and cut center David Baas.

To figure out exactly where the Giants stand now, three days into free agency, is impossible until I see the details of all the contracts, which take some time to trickle in. A few of them have already trickled, though, painting a partial picture of how much the Giants have spent.

So below are some of the contract details for the players the Giants have signed, which have been obtained through several NFL and NFLPA sources. I will continue to update this post as the numbers come in.

However, if you factor in all the official numbers I have, as listed below, those alone would reduce the Giants' cap space to about $8 million. The the most recent NFLPA report had the Giants with $12,805,504 left, to be exact, and that includes all the "official" contracts I list below except for Hynoski, Beason and McClain, which don't appear to be in their system yet (obviously Thurmond and Demps aren't in the system yet either). Remember, only the Top 51 contracts count against the cap, so each time a contract is added, another comes off the bottom of the list (making it even harder to keep a running tally).

Anyway, I'll get you all the official numbers eventually, so keep checking back for updates throughout the week. For now, here’s what I know …

DRC signed

We've made some quality moves this offseason. There's still work to be done though.

Yo Mez, update this threat title. Why the hell does it say Giants vs Seahawks?

DRC is a great pickup. He's a top 7 CB in the league. It scares me too. He's kind of a moron so I don't want him coming here acting foolish. Hopefully Rolle can teach him.

DRC was a disappointment in Philly but balled out in den in a contract yr..took less money than den offered to come. Ill take the upgrade, however....prince/drc/thurmond/trelle/hill/brown is a solid secondary. And now nyg has a decent corps of LBers...if JPP gets right(again), I envision a top 12 defense. Oh, and hope Damontre cooks.

we were already a top 12-15 defense before these moves, and would've been better without all the turnovers from the offense.

Guess we go DL, WR/TE in the draft

I think the draft is OL, TE and DL in that order. I can see the Giants picking up Manningham and they like Jerrigan.

Just signed Trindon Holliday to a one year deal. That's big for us because of how poor are poor are return game has been

I'm assuming the fumbling will be worked on in camp. We need something on special teams badly.

Havent had a good return man since.......ron dixon. I like this move also(Holliday). jerry reese filling all kinds of holes.

Manningham signs a 1 year deal, so we're set at WR (probably will battle for fourth spot).

But who is our #1 receiver? Randle is capable but has to step it up.

Happy Manninghams back, hope he can return to form in familiar surroundings. I'm thinking the 9ers were just a bad fit for him.

DRC :pimp: Now we have a real solid secondary. DRC/Thurmond/Prince/SBrown/Rolle

Randle has to become the number 2, with this new system we probably don't even need other "big names". We already have Cruz, Randle, Jernigan, Manningham, Holliday

It all begins and ends with Eli having protection from his offensive line so he has the time to make the throws needed, and going back to the physical run game (that we had once again with John Connor run blocking and Andre Brown/Jacobs/Hillis. Plus we now have a RB who can catch the ball in the backfield in Rashad Jennings which will help with the pathetic screen game.

Only area that I have quesitons about defensively is the pass rush, but that is an area they will more than likely address in the draft (along with TE's).

I'm loving this off-season activity.

Coughlin on new offense: 'some of old, tremendous amount of new'

TC: new offense will create a new fire for everyone, especially for a Eli

Coughlin says more they watched Rashad Jennings, more they liked. Noted 'all-purpose player' and he's very good at screens

TC: David Wilson making 'outstanding progress.' Coughlin actually tells him to slow down

Coughlin: 'I'm planning that [david wilson] is there until they tell me different.' Said it may just be in different capacity.

Coughlin said he can see himself coaching several more years

How will #giants use DRC? Via Coughlin: 'Are you the best receiver?'

Coughlin on tight end position: 'We have to make something happen there'

Not much..finley and daniels. Cap space is limited so might as well draft one high....after all, they once won a chip with k.boss, a rook at TE..
