MICK_blogheader_656x369.jpg

Hey NBA LIVE fans, Ryan Santos here to talk music for NBA LIVE 14. As a music lover, this area of the game has always been fun to work on, and this year is the best yet. The soundtrack is packed with some amazing artists and tracks, along with new game features to give you a fresh listening experience. Also, we’re super excited about a special partnership with mixtape DJ extraordinaire and Brooklyn’s own MICK (formerly MICK Boogie).

MICK’s history with EA SPORTS basketball goes back to the NBA LIVE 10 and NBA JAM mixtapes, so he’s no stranger to video game hoops. As a former DJ for the Cleveland Cavaliers and now world-class DJ for entertainment’s biggest stars and hottest brands, we knew MICK was the perfect music expert to curate this year’s soundtrack.

The way you hear all this music in our game is an evolution of the NBA LIVE soundtrack experience. For the first time in our game we’re bringing the mixtape to you. MICK created over 30 custom mixtape bumpers that play in between tracks to allow for a seamless listening experience. We wanted to bring MICK’s signature sound to the game while allowing us to change up the order of the music to keep it fresh.

nba-live-14-soundtrack-4.jpg

Additionally you can customize the soundtrack for each game mode by selecting specific tracks to only play in those modes. If you want some more laid back chill sounds for Dynasty throw on some Bishop Nehru “Elder Blossoms”. If you wanna get mad hype for LIVE Season add Pusha T’s “Numbers on the Boards” to that list. The choice is yours.

nba-live-14-soundtrack-5-1.jpg

Best of all, the goodness doesn’t stop there. LIVE content updates for the connected gamer is one of our biggest priorities, so MICK is going to continue to select hot new artists and tracks post-launch, giving us the opportunity to update the game with breaking music throughout the NBA season. NBA LIVE 14 will be a source to hear the latest tracks before anybody else. As the game continually plays and looks different based on what’s happening in the NBA, it’ll sound different too – staying on the pulse of the music scene and building on the culture/lifestyle of hoops.

Thanks for checking us out and stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes exclusives with MICK.

Fans in North America can pick up NBA LIVE 14 on Tuesday, November 19, for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. NBA LIVE 14 will also be available worldwide on November 22 for Xbox One, and November 29 for PS4.
The Power of the NBA LIVE Connected Experience
By EA SPORTS Nov 6, 2013

nba-live-court-q-header_656x369.jpg

One of the features we’re most excited to introduce in NBA LIVE 14 is CourtQ, which goes to great lengths to make the game new every time you play. This year, EA SPORTS is leveraging Synergy Sports Technology to provide fresh data an hour after every NBA game. Through the intelligence of CourtQ and other innovative technology, the connected experience in NBA LIVE 14 offers new content in all facets of the game.

A GAME THAT KNOWS THE GAME

Synergy is the official data providing service for all 30 teams in the NBA, and they log every single possession of every single game, every single day. Synergy provides detailed reports on each player that goes way beyond just the box score, drilling down into minutiae such as how often a player goes to his right or left, how his shooting performance changes in home games vs. away games, his go-to move in the post and much, much more.

EA SPORTS has partnered exclusively with Synergy to bring this level of granular detail into NBA LIVE 14, which makes the game as real as it can be. After each NBA game, Synergy sends over data on more than 70 ratings and tendencies, which leads to updates for each player in near real-time. If Steph Curry has a particularly exceptional night from deep, then the next time you boot up NBA LIVE 14 you’ll find him splashing more shots from beyond the arc than usual. However, if he goes on a cold streak a few days later, then you may find it challenging to capitalize on the same looks that seemed so automatic just a few days ago.

One of the grand goals of CourtQ and Synergy is to eliminate subjectivity from player ratings and tendencies and go solely by the numbers. In order to give you the most realistic game possible, the players in NBA LIVE have to behave and act just like their real-life counterparts. That’s the direction we’re headed with CourtQ and we believe we’ve made major strides toward it in year one. It’s very exciting to think what the future holds for this technology.

LOOK FRESH

Our connected experience doesn’t stop at player ratings – data will also affects the way each player looks. If Derrick Rose drops a new colorway for his sneakers during the season, the new kicks will be updated in NBA LIVE 14. No waiting for a roster update, no special patch, just another piece that gets automatically updated each day. Same goes for new accessories or gear, even haircuts. Anytime an NBA player changes up his look NBA LIVE 14 will be there to make him look right in-game.

nba-live-14-espn.jpg

ESPN

This year, we’re proud to welcome ESPN’s flagship broadcast team of Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy to NBA LIVE 14 commentary, and Jalen Rose as our studio host. In addition to providing halftime and post-game show duties, Jalen will also be recording weekly content providing a look at what’s happening in both the NBA as well as within the NBA LIVE 14 community. Perform well and take the game by storm, and you might just get a shout-out from Jalen on one of his weekly shows. Look for more on this in the coming days.

The beauty of a connected experience is that while it does so much to keep the game relevant to the real-world, it requires virtually no work from the gamer. Simply hook up your Xbox One or PlayStation 4 to the Internet and all the data and updates will be delivered directly to you whenever you boot up the game. No menus to navigate, no buttons to click; no muss, no fuss. NBA LIVE 14 is a going to be new experience every time you play it.

Good looks on that article Pabs.

I'm seeing a lot of stuff about the presentation and visuals, but nothing about how the game flows. I've seen dribbling mentioned but nothing about how the AI acts, and if any of those clunky animations from previous years were removed.

I'm waiting to see 5 on 5 gameplay before I decide

Can't see the pics, but I'm excited. I miss Live. If they add legendary teams, it would be dope. I love stuff like that.
NBA LIVE 14: LIVE Season Mode Deep Dive
By EA SPORTS Nov 8, 2013

nba-live-season-header_656x369.jpg

The primary driving force behind NBA LIVE 14 is to constantly bring you fresh new content that makes the game feel different every time you play. You’ve likely already heard about how CourtQ and Synergy Sports will affect player attributes and tendencies on a day-to-day basis, but that’s just scratching the surface of what we can do. With that in mind, let’s discuss how LIVE Season provides you with a brand-new experience every time you play NBA LIVE 14.

nba-live-season-1.jpg

MAKE IT BIG

For those who want to relive those amazing highlight-reel plays again and again, NBA LIVE 14 offers BIG Moments. These challenges can range in length from a few seconds to a full quarter, and they’re always relevant to the conversations you’ll have with your friends the day after a game. Think SportsCenter highlights in video game form and you’ve got the basic idea.

Maybe Derrick Rose hits the buzzer-beater to win a huge game. We can then capture that point in time and turn it into a BIG Moment. What’s that? He already did that this year? Yeah, that’s why it’s one of our BIG Moments that you can play the second you put the disc in your console. Jump into the fourth quarter of the Bulls-Knicks game from Halloween with 10 seconds on the clock and take control of Rose as he attempts to sink the game-winner.

nba-live-season-2.jpg

While some challenges like the above example may be player-locked, others allow you to take control of the whole team in order to succeed. So if the Bulls score 10 points in the last two minutes of the quarter, you may be challenged to pull off the same feat with Rose, Noah and the rest of the crew. This mixture of player-centric challenges and team-based objectives creates a nice variety of options, and offers something for just about everyone.

All your performances in BIG Moments are tracked on leaderboards, so you can see how you stack up against your friends. BIG Moments also offer HoopsNet XP, so completing them as well as NBA Rewind games is a great way to level up quickly and earn those LIVE Ultimate Team rewards.

nba-live-season-3.jpg

So what if you watch a game one night, get super-excited to play the accompanying BIG Moment but can’t make it to your console the next day? No worries, we understand that sometimes life gets in the way of really important stuff like video games, so that’s why each day’s challenges are archived and playable at all times right from the BIG Moments timeline. You can always go back and pick up a challenge you missed when it was posted, or binge and catch up on a full week’s worth of games. Each BIG Moment is tied to that particular day’s rosters and CourtQ/Synergy Sports data, so the players will always behave the way they did at that moment in time.

BIG Moments aren’t the only way you can keep up with all the NBA action, as we have a whole other mode within LIVE Season that lets you stay step-for-step with your favorite squad.

RESET, REWIND, GO BACK IN TIME

NBA Rewind allows you to follow your favorite team (or teams) throughout the regular season, but with a LIVE twist. Every NBA Rewind game comes loaded with the day’s Synergy Sports and CourtQ data, so every player on the court will act just like he did in that night’s game. If Kevin Love was stretching the defense and knocking down the outside shot, then you’ll see him floating out to the perimeter and taking more jumpers than normal. If Roy Hibbert was a monster on the boards, then you’re going to have to work extra hard to keep him off the glass.

nba-live-season-4.jpg

NBA Rewind is more than just a replay of the day’s games with updated player info, as each matchup features objectives to complete based on which team you control.

nba-live-season-5.jpg

Let’s take the Hibbert example: if he grabbed 20 rebounds in a game and you choose to play as the Pacers, then your task may be to equal or exceed his production. However, if you’re playing as the opposition, you may be asked to limit the Indiana big man to 10 rebounds or less, or for your team’s center to grab more rebounds than Hibbert.

After each game, you are scored based on not only the final score, but also how well you did completing your objectives. The better you perform, the more points you earn, and the higher you’ll climb up the leaderboards. Completing objectives also earns you EA SPORTS HoopsNet XP, and leveling up your HoopsNet rank unlocks new LIVE Ultimate Team packs, so there’s plenty of incentive to play as many games as you can.

Another really cool element to the objectives in NBA Rewind is that they’re all generated dynamically by CourtQ and Synergy Sports. The database is smart enough to look at each game’s most notable performances, pull out the relevant data and turn it into a challenge. This level of automation allows for quicker updates, letting us post each game within a few hours of its real-world completion

KEEP IT SIMPLE

LIVE Season wouldn’t be terribly exciting if you had manually download every challenge you want, or wait for hours for updates. Thankfully, with the power of next-gen consoles, we’re able to push the challenges out as soon as they’re ready so they’re primed to download and update the moment you turn on your XBox One or PlayStation 4.

Whenever you boot up NBA LIVE 14, you’ll see a screen showing you exactly how many items CourtQ updated, including all NBA Rewind games and BIG Moments. From there, all you need to do is head into the LIVE Season menu and pick what you want to play. It’s as seamless as it can be, letting you jump straight into a game without having to wait around.

Hopefully you enjoyed this look at LIVE Season and are as excited about playing the content as we are to make it! We can’t wait to bring you new content and challenges every single day of the NBA season.

Supposedly a Live 14 demo will be available when the PS4 launches; not sure about the XB1.

Rich Grisham@RichGrisham

Also, another nugget of info. A full-featured NBA Live 14 demo hits for PS4 launch. You'll be able to play it before retail release. Cool.
The Live 14 demo has been pushed back to Nov 19th.

EA SPORTS NBAVerified account@EASPORTSNBA

To clarify, the #NBALIVE14 Demo drops on 11/19/13 to coincide with game launch. More details coming next week.

Already paid off but I'll still wait and try the demo first before I pick up.

i wouldn't be mad at EA for not coming out with it on current gen if they gave us a demo too. If not hopefully next year they'll be back.

i have a feeling Live 14 will surprise a lot of people. 8o
NBA Live 14 is a true contender (seriously this time)
After a brutal series of false starts and high-profile cancellations, NBA Live is finally back. Really, it's actually coming out this year. Shrouded in mystery for much of its development cycle--yet looked upon with fascination by everyone in the sports game community--EA Sports has finally opened the curtains on its riskiest bet of 2013. As you would expect from a brand-new (it's safe to call it that now) entrant in the simulation sports genre, there are flashes of brilliance and a bunch of rough edges. Perhaps most surprising, though, is the level of depth on display during my hands-on access to the Xbox One version of the game, a week before it launches in North America on November 19th.

NBA Live 14’s controls are layered, allowing anyone to jump right in and play, but also offering a surprising amount of variety. Face buttons and the left stick control the core mechanics; you pass, shoot, and execute simple hop steps by pressing the associated button and move your player around the court with the left stick. Advanced dribbling is controlled with the right stick, which gives you the ability to easily switch your ball hand, go between the legs, and behind the back. While this may sound over the top, it’s actually a very impressive way to give you control--and it looks cool. The turbo is handled via the right trigger, and if you’ve got a clear path to the basket, holding it along with the shooting button powers a dunk.

529dcf444166aa8c11a8914af7642b7684bd2676.jpg__752x419_q85_crop_upscale.jpg

The second layer of controls opens up some impressive options. There are several types of passes, many of which are reminiscent of FIFA’s options--power passes, lobs, bounce, lead, and more--which can be controlled by context or through icon selection. Perhaps the niftiest of all controls on display, though, is the thoroughly intuitive pick-and-roll mechanic. Unlike NBA 2K14, which requires you to pre-determine which type of pick you’d like, Live asks you to simply hold the left trigger to call for the screener to move near you. The moment you let go, the screener returns to where they were; don’t let go, and they stay right there. It instantly offers sublime control over one of the most effective ways to open up shot opportunities.

The third layer of controls are where things get even more interesting, as a combination of the left bumper and single or double-taps open up the deepest move sets. Based upon your position on the court and your individual player’s strengths, you can execute a wide variety of moves, including jab steps (single and double), up and unders, drop steps, real and fake spins, jump hooks, and more. If you’re battling down low in the post, you can also hold the ball out or lean in with the right stick before executing a power move to get by, or a stutter-step and back up jumper. There is a ton of depth.

2201a720296920c8807d32355797f663c071adb5.jpg__736x400_q85_crop_upscale.jpg

While this all may sound overwhelming, the development team has promised a series of tutorial videos to walk you through each layer. This is super-important, especially because everyone has been playing and getting used to the 2K series for the past three years. From what I've seen, the games control quite differently. Sadly, there is no straight up practice mode to learn all of the nuances, but you can take advantage of a number of helpful options, such as having play art displayed on the court as well as context-sensitive visual cues letting you know where to go and what to do.

You have an impressive array of tools on defense as well. Staying on your man is as easy as holding down the left stick--no need to press and hold a button--and taking a charge is as simple as getting in the right position for contact. Holding the left trigger puts you in a defensive stance wherever you are on the floor, and you can control various contest levels as well, including jostles and bumps, whose effectiveness is directly in proportion to your man’s capabilities, speed, and size. The defenders you’re not controlling have awareness based upon what’s happening in the game--who’s hot, what tactics are being employed, even what the game clock and shot clock situation is. Smart stuff.

845ef80840d943d3ae58fd213ede81b1a0029798.jpg__594x344_q85_crop_upscale.jpg

Playcalling is assigned to the D-pad, and can be used at the team or individual player level. One of the main goals of the development team is to make everything as quick and easy to get to as possible, so a single-tap on the pad in any direction will call a pre-set play such as an isolation. A double-tap, for example, will call for a post up.

Overall, NBA Live 14 is shaping up as an ambitious return to the hardwood for EA Sports. The team is acutely aware of its competition and describes its approach as a marathon and not a sprint. So, this is just the start of NBA Live renaissance. The gameplay itself is solid in parts and rough in others; when moving back and forth across the court from possession to shot, things run smoothly. However, the action gets a bit choppy during some fights for rebounds, and the ball physics off the rim seem a bit clunky. It will be very interesting to spend significant time with the final retail version (which will have the obligatory Day One patch to address known issues) and see just how much or little these will affect enjoyment of the entire package.

e6ff3fbdb589646fee042c73b439ed1f8089fee2.jpg__628x342_q85_crop_upscale.jpg

There’s no doubt that EA Sports has laid a solid foundation for next-generation basketball. Thanks to an impressive amount of gameplay depth and options, it appears that Live really is back. That’s good news for all sports fans, as more competition in an ever-shrinking space will fuel innovation that will benefit everyone. In other words--hoop fans have never had it so good.

They need to put out some gameplay videos soon. EA is BSing in that department while IGN has already reviewed the next gen 2K14.

^ agreed! I already payed off Live but I'm really considering canceling and going with 2k. How the hell have we not seen any gameplay when it's scheduled to released in in a week? Smh
