Essential looks at Pau the same way Daryl Morey did. The business of basketball. Pau is a star no matter what you say. Bargs ain't and Lowry ain't either. The heads know what's good with Lowry, but that's about it. The Raptors get Pau and suddenly a dead, worthless season has a narrative and an attraction. That puts more people into the seats just to see what happens, and as we all know...the best player on a bad team syndrome is bound to happen. His knees are an issue, but if a lottery team is so inclined, I can understand them rolling the dice. 4-14 isn't gonna change or get better this year, but having something to at least drive towards .500 and the playoffs. I can understand that frame of mind that he's operating from.
Getting a star is so hard in this league. We know who the great ones are and they're not leaving their teams for Toronto...not ever. It takes a special type of desperation to trade Kyle Lowry for a big name, though. Pau is too old, but if Daryl Morey has a feeling about it, that's practically Colangelo's father. And Colangelo has got to be close to being fired at the end of this year or sometime next. Right? That desperation.
