pretty solid free event top to bottom.

I thought Vera would have a better showing, and it did look as if he was trying to work from a sub from his back before eating that vicious elbow. Oh well cant win em all.

Hopefully some of yall followed my lead and bet big on the JDS fight. Damn is that kid impressive. One of my favorite newer fighters out there today. I know I been runnin my mouth for a minute now bout how JDS is an ELITE level HW, and its good to see him back it up so I dont look like a damn ******. There's still plenty of room on the JDS warwagon, its not too late to hop on fellas.

I'm sure Jones is at most a few fights away from a title shot

Yeah, it was either an interview or the post-event press conference, but I believe Dana said its gonna be a year or so before Bones gets any "championship caliber" opponents.

Too early to give him Thiago.

I think Jones vs. Ryan Bader would be an interesting matchup
IMO, Jones is past a fight with Bader. I can see the match up happening though but I don't like where it would put the loser of the match considering those two are probably the top prospects at 205. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Thiago or the winner of Griffin/Lil' Nog. He needs to start fighting more experinced top fighters.

I thought rumors where Spider vs the winner of Evans/Rampage?

Jones needs to keep working his way up. Let him smash Forrest so he can run away again, then step over thiago, crush Rich Franklin, and then possibly see a top 5 LHW. He don't need to be seeing Spider, Shogan, or Machida for over a year or so.

Damn, Vera got messed up

Brandon Vera received more than a bruised ego on Sunday at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo.; a fearsome elbow strike from opponent Jon Jones left the UFC light heavyweight with facial fractures and an unknown return date.

In the night's Versus-televised main event, Jones landed the blow as he postured up in Vera's guard midway through the first round. Vera rolled to his side in visible pain when the shot slammed into the right side of his face near his eye socket.

The strike caused three fractures in Vera's right cheekbone, the fighter's manager, Matt Stansell, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

"The whole right side of Brandon's face was numb," Stansell said.

Vera (11-5 MMA , 7-5 UFC), 32, was tasked with stopping the advance of Jones (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC). The 22-year-old burst onto the UFC scene in 2008 and racked up a series of of impressive victories marred only by a lone disqualification loss to Matt Hamill this past December at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

The UFC on Versus 1 main-event fight was Vera's second consecutive loss, which includes a unanimous-decision defeat to Randy Couture at UFC 105 this past November. Vera still disputes the scores of the fight, which all went 29-28 in Couture's favor.

Vera will see a facial specialist this week, at which time a timetable for his return should be determined, Stansell said. The Colorado Office of Boxing, which oversees MMA events in the state, hasn't yet released the list of mandatory medical suspensions from UFC on Versus 1. Vera likely will need clearance from a doctor before he can be licensed to fight again.

Since dropping from heavyweight light heavyweight in July 2008, Vera is 3-3 in the UFC's 205-pound division.

^^ just saw the video and that elbow was

you knew immediately something was wrong with the way he grabbed the side of his face. devastating loss for vera but jones is a damn beast

Id love to jump on that jds fan wagon but as for heavyweight fighters im Ridin with cain. He has the appearance of a fearsome strong chinned dude. He takes control of fights and pushes the pace. Ive got mexican blood in me as well. So Cain is my dude.

^
Cain's chin won't look strong against JDS.  Junior would drop him fast.  It'll be interesting to see how the normal sized heavyweights will deal with the super heavyweights at the top of the division (Brock, Carwin & Mir).

GSP by RNC

btw the April 17 Strikeforce: Nashville card looks better than any UFC card in recent memory.

MAIN CARD
DAN HENDERSON VS JAKE SHIELDS
GEGARD MOUSASI VS MUHAMMED "KING MO" LAWAL
GILBERT MELENDEZ VS SHINYA AOKI

Hopefully its a 5th round RNC.  I wanna see GSP beat on this dude for 24 minutes and 50 seconds.  Something really bothers me about Hardy.  I dont think he is deserving of a title shot and is vastly overrated.

we can give Hardy 2010s  trash talker of the year award

Bisping won it in 2009

they got something in common

knowing how GSP wins his fights, I'd agree with Modjo though I want a beatdown for 5 full rounds with a unanimous decision in the end.

for Jon Jones, I want him to face the winner or loser of Forrest and Lil Nog. I believe he deserves to get either fighter since (to me) he's been undefeated in the UFC and exceeding expectations every fight. I was glad he went to Jackson's camp for better training (seriously, GSP, Rashad , Nate and Jardine to spar with?). This kid's going to do some damage in that division.

Hell naw. The first two match ups could turn out to be horrible mismatches. Strikeforce Evolution > this card.
