Saves between the two releases will be forward-compatible, meaning you don’t have to worry about starting your Franchise or Road to The Show seasons over!

  • New situational base covering intelligence allows for new animations to play when a player has time or is in a hurry to get to his base.
  • More than 70 new situational third out fielding animations
  • New Input Type option for hitting
  • We’ve separated swing input as a separate option
Licensed Equipment
(PS4 & PS3 Only)

For the first time ever MLB The Show will include licensed equipment from some of the most recognizable brands in baseball. Earn as you play to enhance your RTTS or Diamond Dynasty players and partner with iconic brands by bringing sponsorships to your Franchise team! (Equipment on PS3 version is not seen during gameplay.)

Universal Rewards
(PS4 & PS3 Only)

In the last couple years we added the Universal Profile, which tracks your playstyle tendencies and passively rewards you with XP and Stubs while you play. This year, in addition to XP and Stubs, you will earn new Items usable throughout different game modes:
  • Virtual Baseball cards to be collected and easily assembled into a competitive Diamond Dynasty team
  • Licensed Bats, Gloves, Batting Gloves, and Cleats that enhance your Road to the Show or Diamond Dynasty player’s ability
  • Brand Sponsorships for your Franchise team that spice up your in-game interface and earn your team some extra income
  • Collect entire teams to unlock iconic MLB alumni players from each MLB team
Graphical Improvements
(PS4 Only)

  • Real-time seasonal sun and shadows
  • Player Skin tone realism. More variations of skin tones with gloss and specular improvements
  • Revamped Night lighting
  • More accurate and photorealistic rendering system
  • PS4 gets 10 more Minor League stadiums
Directional Hitting Interface
(PS3, PS4, VITA)

Featured for the first time in MLB 15 The Show is the new Directional Hitting interface, which allows you to influence the direction of your hits in real-time while you swing. Using the L-Stick, you can attempt to influence fly balls, ground balls, pushed hits, pulled hits, or any of those in combination. The most success will be had by swinging at pitches that are conducive to the hit direction you are aiming for. Outside pitches are better for hitting to the opposite field, while inside pitches are best for pulling. If no direction is pressed with the L-Stick, it’s just like using the old Timing Hitting interface. Like never before, Directional Hitting allows you to play into each hitter’s strengths and utilize the strategies of proper situational hitting.

Franchise Mode Refresh
(PS4, PS3, VITA)

With the addition of General Manager Contracts, you now have to consider Ownership Expectations when running your team, and your performance will determine the job offers that come your way. Building a championship-caliber team is more fun and dynamic than ever before, with the new Performance-based Player Progression, as well as much improved Trade and Contract logic. Partner up with Brand Sponsors, giving your broadcast elements an official sponsor and earn some extra dough to spend on your team.

Players and teams get Personality: Aesthetics and Emotion
(PS4 & PS3 Only)

Players on the field get improvements to show their individuality. (Necklaces, Tilted caps, etc..) Real-time situational/emotional AI scenes (dugouts, crowd, etc..) have also been added, and more Team and Player celebrations.

“Inside The Show” News Suite
(PS4, partial PS3)

Franchise, RTTS, and Season modes all feature a new suite of features centered on providing news updates from around the league. Inside The Show is a new radio broadcast that will be heard at the beginning of each new day and will discuss recent scores, notable performances, team news, milestones, records, standings, and more.

Diamond Dynasty Distilled
(PS4 & PS3 Only)

Diamond Dynasty is melted down to its core. Now driven by just a handful of systems, it is much more accessible and less daunting to manage. Driven heavily by a new collection based management system, everyone is building a Diamond Dynasty team just by playing any mode in MLB The Show.

New Slide Step System
(PS4 & PS3 Only)

Perform a slide step while pitching to combat pitchers with a slow delivery to the plate, or runners who consistently get great jumps. This “game within a game” creates a risk/reward factor when performing a slide step. The pitcher will now have less control and slightly less velocity when a slide step is executed, but will be quicker to the plate. As a runner, you now have to worry about your opponent using a slide step when you are attempting a steal.

Legends
(PS4, PS3, VITA)

We partnered with the MLB Player’s Alumni Association to make a total of 30 Legends playable in MLB 15 The Show. Collect an entire MLB team, and you’ll unlock an iconic alumni player from that team. There’s one from each team, and though you’ll have to find or unlock the card to slot them into your Dynasty squad, you can simply opt in to utilizing the whole pool of Legends in your Franchise mode.

Presentation Improvements
(PS4)

  • Dynamic stat based presentations
  • Split screen functionality
  • Real-time situational/emotional AI scenes (dugouts, crowd, etc.)
  • All-new Jumbotron movies
  • More Team and Player celebrations
Play-by-Play, Commentary, and PA Improvements

Friendly reminder that the first look at MLB 15 gameplay happens today at 5:00pm EST.

You can watch it here:

Honestly think the RM/Candien cover is better than Puig's. Not just saying that because I'm an Angel fan either.

Here's the archive of the Gameplay Livestream today.

Quick summary of Livestream (courtesy of OS):

Graphics
  • Dynamic shadows in each stadium that will change over the course of the season
  • Colors will also change based on the amount of sun exposure
  • Grass and dirt colors are more accurate for each stadium
  • There are way more skin tones (they used to only have 13), which means you'll get much more realistic skin on dark toned players
Gameplay
  • Directional hitting lets you influence where the ball will go, even in "timing only" mode
  • Dynamic pitch breaks make each pitch type easier to recognize and closer to how the ball acts in real life
  • Quick counts will start you more often in the middle of an at-bat. Pitchers will always start on a 1-1 count
  • Manual cutoffs are triggered by the L1 button and will help keep singles with a runner in scoring position from turning into cheap doubles
  • Outfielders have more curved, indirect routes, and will no longer just take straight paths to the ball. This should help reduce the number of undeserved doubles and triples
  • Infielders will follow the ball better and cover bases more realistically
  • There were no changes to umpires
  • But the new MLB challenge system is in place for close plays at bases
  • Lots of new catching, tagging, and throwing animations, which are unique for every base
  • Baserunners will slow up now and dynamically change their run speed based on where the ball is hit
  • There is more of a separation this year between fast and and slow runners
  • Expect less warping and sudden, unrealistic speed boosts in all fielding animations
  • You can use analog swings with timing hitting now
  • Meter pitching is more sensitive and has more risk/reward. Missing your mark has more of a penalty, hitting your mark has more of a benefit
  • Fielding and throwing sliders are now separated into different slider categories for infield/outfield
Next week: A video blog for licensed equipment and the universal rewards system.
In the future: More twitch broadcasts are to come. A "presentation" stream will be next.

Here's a summary of the info discussed from the Licensed Equipment/Universal Rewards livestream yesterday, courtesy of OS
Universal Rewards
  • Returning users will receive a "Gold Loyalty Upgrade" pack upon starting the game for the first time, if their PSN profile played MLB 14: The Show. That pack includes one gold Diamond Dynasty card and three gold items. Most items can be used in Road to the Show, Franchise, or Diamond Dynasty.
  • All users will unlock one bonus item every day that they log into MLB 15: The Show. Players can also earn a "standard" pack every nine days that they check in. The standard pack contains six Diamond Dynasty players and two items. The days don't have to be consecutive; the requirement is just nine total days per pack.
  • Simply completing games (in any mode) also gives you a chance to earn bonus items. You can buy and sell these items in an online, user-to-user marketplace.
  • The items that provide attribute boosts will allow you to push a player's ratings beyond 99, for the first time in MLB: The Show.
  • Some items are sponsorships that you can apply to your Franchise team. You can select three sponsors total, and their logos will appear during replays and on various score bugs. Sponsors will bring in extra funds for your Franchise team, based on how well your club performs during games. These sponsorships only apply to the team, and won't override the individual equipment deals for each of your players.
  • The stubs you've earned in MLB 14: The Show will not carry over to MLB 15: The Show.
Gameplay & Graphics
  • It took only 21 seconds to load into a Franchise game after setting the team lineups.
  • New split-screen replays will appear during big moments.
  • Stadiums' flag poles will be hanging the appropriate city and state banners this year.
  • San Francisco's AT&T Park will include the new garden section in its outfield stands.
  • Sony San Diego plans to release a complete walkthrough for every updated uniform and stadium.
Player Accessories
  • Gloves now have seven customizable parts instead of three. Additionally, you can choose from seven different webbing styles.
  • Neon pink, neon yellow, and neon green are the three new equipment colors.
  • Hitters' shin guards are less bulky and more form-fitting, plus you can choose whether or not to use a foot guard.
  • Helmets without ear flaps are now available, which will make the older legends look more accurate to their time period.
  • You can now choose from thin or long eyeblack styles.
  • Necklaces are finally in the game. You can have thick or thin chains, and can also customize the chains' color. Necklaces have to stay tucked underneath your jersey, though, and will only be partially visible.
  • Wrist tape, wrist bands, and arm bands now have multiple lengths.
  • Baserunners can now wear wrist guards.
  • A low stirrups option has been added.
  • The catcher's leg guards and chest protector look more detailed and are now more form-fitting.
Diamond Dynasty
  • All the retired legends' Diamond Dynasty cards will look like their actual baseball cards used to.
  • There won't be any "throwback" versions of current MLB players (e.g. 2004 David Ortiz).
  • None of your Diamond Dynasty cards will ever expire. To compensate for the fact that you'll be able to keep everything forever, gold and diamond players will now be extremely rare. The bronze tier will include some everyday starters, and the silver tier will have some All-Stars.
  • You are now limited to only one fully customizable created player. He can play at any position (though he won't excel at all of them), and you will have to boost his attribute ratings by "feeding" him player cards. Your created player will improve based on the strengths of the players that you "feed" him. Cards that are used as "food" will permanently disappear from your collection.
  • MLB players cannot be trained via feeding. But you can at least edit their equipment, if you like.
  • Whenever you play a Diamond Dynasty game, it will randomly select a starting pitcher from your rotation. You cannot see which pitcher the game has chosen for you until the game has officially started. All of your pitchers' stamina will now be fully restored at the end of each game.
  • Extra Innings matches now reward cards instead of team budget. Budget is a concept that no longer exists in Diamond Dynasty. You odds of obtaining rare cards after a game will increase if you play on higher difficulty settings. The marketplace is now entirely based on stubs, since budget has been removed from the mode.
  • It's unlikely that you'll be able to transfer your existing team logos/jerseys from MLB 14 to MLB 15.
  • The developers were also uncertain whether or not there will be new cards introduced to the mode throughout the year. It was confirmed, however, that all the Diamond Dynasty cards' ratings will be automatically updated alongside The Show's regular roster updates.
Online Play
Sony San Diego's "most talented guys" have been working on improving the series' troublesome online play. Their goal is to achieve one-to-one parity with the input registration for online/offline gameplay. More information will come on this subject during a later stream.

There will be a full game livestream tonight at 8pm EST tonight on Sony's twitch channel.
